The Two Towers
The Two Towers: Being the Second Part of The Lord of the Rings | J.R.R. Tolkien
The second volume in J.R.R. Tolkien's epic adventure THE LORD OF THE RINGS One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them Frodo and his Companions of the Ring have been beset by danger during their quest to prevent the Ruling Ring from falling into the hands of the Dark Lord by destroying it in the Cracks of Doom. They have lost the wizard, Gandalf, in a battle in the Mines of Moria. And Boromir, seduced by the power of the Ring, tried to seize it by force. While Frodo and Sam made their escape, the rest of the company was attacked by Orcs. Now they continue the journey alone down the great River Anduinalone, that is, save for the mysterious creeping figure that follows wherever they go. Among the greatest works of imaginative fiction of the twentieth century. The book presents us with the richest profusion of new lands and creatures, from the beauty of Lothlrien to the horror of Mordor. Sunday Telegraph

The Two Towers has always been my least favorite book in the series, though I still love it. This time around I was reminded of the incredible strength of some of the quieter characters. Faramir and Sam make it possible for Frodo to complete his task. Without their sacrificial choices he never would‘ve made it. It‘s also still thrilling when Gandalf returns!

I also read the tagged book, Key Lime Pie Murder, and The Long-Lost Home, which is the last book in the Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place series (highly recommend!)

Like the first book, I didn't overly love it. I did enjoy the different perspectives this time but didn't like that we didn't get much of the main POV from Frodo and the Ring. I also found that the singing continued...I really hate the singing. The pace did drag a little however one again the world building did make up for it. I will definitely be reading the last book as I feel like it's pointless bailing now, but so far I'm not overly impressed.

Due to a huge reading slump right in the middle, it took me forever to finish. It is interesting to read this knowing the broadstrokes of the story thanks to the movies. Seeing all the details, and the complete story is added adventure which I am loving. I'm just sorry it took me so long to read this series.

Making the slowest progress with this one because now Sam and Frodo are crawling through Mordor. I like the part in Ithilien, but mostly I find this section so slow...

#FellowshipOfTolkien l'm halfway through. Loving it!
Also reading the new Italian translation of The Two Towers. Still not know how l feel about It.
#FairytaleReadingChallenge read two third of the book. Slew down on the battle episode because It lost some of the spark.

I‘ve just finished this audio. Excellent narration as the first was. Luckily, my darling BF does not tire of hearing me tell him all the exciting book details! I mostly listened to it while sewing (mostly masks but a few baby quilts recently) and XC skiing. Now to start Return of the King! #audiobooks #audible #fantasy

Love loved loved this book. It had me drawn in the entire time and I‘m so happy it stayed at a relatively good pace. There is a lot of walking in these books but I think that can be expected if you know anything about LOTR. I really enjoyed it and was pleased that there were so many surprises even though I‘ve watched the movies countless times!

I have been wanting to read this trilogy for a long time. I read the Hobbit last summer in 9 days and loved it. So I started reading Fellowship and it took me 6mo. It started off very slow and picked up at a faster pace half way through. This book continues that fast pace and keeps me sucked into middle earth. I‘m having a hard time putting it down.

I finally finished this section of the story. It's been on my slow burner for awhile so it feels bittersweet that I finished it. Out of the books of this series so far, it's my least favorite. From the hobbit to the 1st book we get this hype of constant adventure. However, this book has the adventure, it's just slowed down by a little. It's the whole gathering b4 the storm/battle which I get and weridly like. Hint the bittersweetness to it.

The second part of Lord of the Rings is usually my least favorite whether I'm reading the book or watching the film but this time around, I went with the audiobook and really the experience even more than The Fellowship. I always admire Tolkien's world building and the way every character has such a distinct personality. As always, Merry and Pippin are my favorites.
#lotr #fantasy

TheNeverendingTBR I've read The Hobbit and Fellowship, still to read Two Two Towers though; just wish I hadn't watched the movies beforehand though - it kind of ruins the reading experience for me 😐 1y
dearb00kshelves @TheNeverendingTBR Yeah I definitely get that. Especially since the films are generally pretty faithful to the books at least for LOTR. Wasn't really a fan of the Hobbit films 🙃 1y

Even tho this has a lot of “we‘re walking, we‘re walking, we‘re talking & we‘re walking” to it there are so many fun & memorable parts as well. And although I know what‘s coming, having read the books before & having seen the movies many times, there‘s still tension & anticipation. Great new characters, epic battle, a bit of humor. Wish it were structured differently but still was totally drawn in. Looking forward to finishing in December! 4/5 ⭐️

Gonna head back to Middle-earth...although on Tuesday I should have President Obama‘s book in my hot little hands and fuck yeah I‘m gonna start reading it right away. It‘ll be a nice antidote to Trump‘s meshuggeneh bullshit. So maybe I‘ll end up reading two books again?? Twice in a row?? .........or I could wait till Wednesday to start it since I‘ll probably be able to finish this one by Tuesday night. Whatever, no one cares, I‘m a dork, kbye

Having finished my reread of TTT, I‘ll now turn my attention back to the books I plan to read for the #OutstandingOctober readathon. I have a few ebooks and audiobooks on my phone for when I‘m out and about, but for this endeavor I‘ll concentrate on physical library books. Of course I‘d love to finish them all in a week, but I‘ll aim for three of the following.

The Searcher
All Creatures Great & Small
The Missing Years
Watching You
