Got this for $4 at the op shop, all 7 books! Bargain! Obviously these stories are a product of their time, and have 'issues'.. luckily I'm a discerning reader.. 🤪 I never read these when I was young, overall they were a lovely little escape!

Stumped, I was, on how I might submit for today‘s prompt of #Cauldron for #Scarathlon #PhotoChallenge. I have two eBooks in play so I searched for the theme in each: no hits. And nothing on my bookshelves... But then, I decided to search on “book cauldron”; first hit was an image of the boxed set of my very favorite children‘s books! Some more subsequent searching and I find mention of the source of Narnia‘s Great River: Cauldron Pool. 🤩

The books are good. They would most likely have been better if I was a member of the target audience (a child); for whom they were definitely written. I read them because my daughter had and I wanted to share that with her. My favorite, The Horse and His Boy, was her least favorite...; go figure. You can see Lewis' faith intermingled throughout the stories. Good moral reads, and spiritual too if you let the author take you there.

I‘ve been terrible at checking in with the #NarniaReadalong this week. 😅 Finished The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe and oof, the nostalgia! 🥺❤️
Why are book battles always so much longer and elaborate in my head/memory than in the actual stories? I know the films obviously elaborated on it, but still!
I can‘t wait to move on to Prince Caspian, I‘ve been saving up my Ben Barnes photos for this special occasion. 😂🤣😂

1. Tagged
2. As close as I can possibly get to how libraries organize theirs. Categories/genres, then author. Authors that span multiple genres, like Stephen King, get their own separate section. Nonfiction‘s a bit more involved, and mimics the Dewey Decimal System.
3. A “sort-of selfie” with a shelfie! 😅 I collect dolls, and have an obsession with Monster High so an artsy friend made me a custom ME! ❤️😱❤️ Isn‘t she the cutest?!?! ❤️🥰❤️

? question: I've always been confused about the "correct" order to read the Chronicles of Narnia. There's "publication order" but I don't know exactly what that means when the book I've got starts with "The Magician's Nephew." I have to admit "Nephew" is kinda boring. What's the significance of the order? I hope my question makes sense!!

#Narniareadalong #currentlyreading #MountTBR #fiction #novels #paperbacks #booksiown

TheBookDream So in chronological order you start with The Magician‘s Nephew. In the traditional publication order you start with The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. 3y
TheBookDream The Magician‘s Nephew kind of is an outlier anyways so many people start with The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. 3y

When I was younger, I didn‘t realize there were different types of “robins” and so I always pictured the American robin (left) when the little guide was mentioned in the story. Given the geographical location of the wardrobe in our world, I now assume Lewis is referencing the European robin (right). Although Narnia being a magical place, I suppose it could be either. 😅
Which of the two do you guys imagine while reading?
#NarniaReadalong

Jari-chan And today I learned that there's an American Robin, that looks somewhat different from the Robins I'm used to 😁 Thank you for sharing! 3y
Soubhiville I didn‘t realize there were European Robins either. So I would have been picturing the American species as well. 😊 3y
TheAromaofBooks I've always pictured the European robins, I think because of reading The Secret Garden during the same era of my life. The edition I had was illustrated by Tasha Tudor & so that robin ended up in my head!! 3y

CaffeineAndCandy @rubyslippersreads ikr! I was reading and thinking that it felt unsafe to go further and further into the wardrobe. 3y

Hey all! #NarniaReadalong begins March 1, and I have a couple preference questions for you guys. Some have suggested reading in order of publication instead of in the order of the series. How does everyone feel about that? Publication order or series order? Also, there are about 200 pages in each book. What do you think is a good time frame to read each one? A week? Two weeks? Three weeks? A month? Pick one!

EdnaC I have always read it in publication order. I‘ve always felt it was the better order. That said I‘m happy to do it the other way if that‘s the way we are doing it. :) 3y
CoffeeAndABook Ha, good question about the order!! I can go either way but would prefer to read in order of publication. About the amount of time to get through one book - I‘ve looked at a couple of books and a chapter a day would work for me! That would put us at two to three weeks per book! That‘s just off the top of my head 😁 3y
See All 11 Comments
SeaToSkyes Does it make more sense to read them in publication order? I actually didn't know they were not published in order! As for how often to read, if I do the audiobooks I could do one per week, but if I decide to physically read them it would probably be every two weeks (maybe?). I'm a slow reader lol 3y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I usually go with the publication order when I read a series. As for time frame, I am doing some different challenges so monthly is better, but should be able to keep up with 2-3 weeks if everyone prefers to move through them quickly. 3y
quietjenn I don‘t have strong feelings about it, so whatever seems to be the consensus is fine by me. 3y
BookwormAHN I think publication order would be my preference but either is fine and I also think a chapter a day would be easiest. 3y
Sargar114 I‘m gonna have to duck out of this one 🙁. I ended up doing Potteraday and that has pretty much set me at my max. Thanks for the tag. 3y
Vansa I read it last month in the series order, and it enhances your appreciation of the books. I originally read it in publication order when I was a kid! 3y
Read4life I‘m open to either order. It seems publication order is most “recommended” but there are points for both. As for timing, chapter a day seems easiest to follow. Again, I‘m happy to go with whatever will allow the most people to participate. 3y
PurpleTulipGirl Either order is fine with me. I haven‘t read the whole series in so long that I‘ve forgotten anything beyond LWW. A chapter a day works, too. Thanks for organizing this. 3y

Riveted_Reader_Melissa Any possibility of reading them in publication order... I know The Magicians Nephew is chronologically first, but it wasn‘t published until closer to the end? 3y

Catsandbooks @throwmeabook 😊 I think I'll go back and forth between audio and ebook. @Light_of_Aether wanna join? 3y
CaffeineAndCandy @Daisey the link you shared is super cool. We may be implementing it into the readalong. Thx! 😘 3y
CaffeineAndCandy @Catsandbooks yay 🥳 we are happy to have you! 3y
CaffeineAndCandy @BethM thanks for joining us! 😊 3y
CaffeineAndCandy @Riveted_Reader_Melissa hmmmm. I will check into that. Might work out for us! 3y
Light_of_Aether @Catsandbooks I'm down to join! It's been 10-15 years since I've read them. I'll probably do the audiobooks. It's too bad they never did all the books as movies; I'd like to see The Magician's Nephew as a movie. (edited) 3y
CaffeineAndCandy @Light_of_Aether yay 🎈📚 we are so glad to have you! 3y
Powered_By_Plants Super excited for this 🤩 , thank you @CaffeineAndCandy . Will attempt to locate the unread box set amongst my books and remove their dust jacket 😂 📚 3y
Read4life I‘m in. I‘ll probably listen to the audiobooks, but have the physical books as well. 🤓 3y
EdnaC I have my copy of the 90s. It is the old version where The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe comes first. It will be interesting to read it in a different order. 3y
Sargar114 I‘ve been interested in this for a while, I‘ll be trying to join! 3y
CaffeineAndCandy @EdnaC we are so happy you could join us! 🥳📚 3y
CaffeineAndCandy @Sargar114 welcome! We are happy to have you! 😊🎈📚 3y
EdnaC @CaffeineAndCandy thanks for having me. I‘m so excited. :) 3y
CaffeineAndCandy @EdnaC me too! 😊 3y
Linsy I might really need to do this!!! I've always meant to make it through the whole series. 3y
CaffeineAndCandy @Linsy we would be happy to have you! 👌👍💜 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Today‘s kindle sale in the US is series reads, and almost all of the Narnia books are included if anyone is interested. 3y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I found my copy and am ready to start in March! 3y

Wondering if anyone is interested in doing a readalong for The Chronicles of Narnia. I've not read them yet and was thinking it might be fun to do with a group. #NarniaReadalong if interested and tag me!
@Enchantedbibliophile

TheKidUpstairs I've been meaning to reread these! I'd definitely be interested. 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Maybe some of the #FellowshipOfTolkien folks would be interested. We‘ve been reading Tolkien for awhile now and they were great friends and fellow inklings. @JazzFeathers @Daisey @wordslinger42 @BookwormAHN 3y
PurpleTulipGirl Absolutely. I haven‘t read the series in ages, long enough that I‘ve forgotten how anything past book 2 goes. 3y

SeaToSkyes That sounds fun! I've only read the first three, but that was several years ago. 3y
CoffeeAndABook Yes please!! Very interested 🦁 🧙‍♀️🚪😉 3y
quietjenn Maybe, if I can find my old copies of them. 3y
Read4life I‘m definitely interested. 🤓 3y
Powered_By_Plants Ooh yay I would love to join . They have been sitting on my shelf unread for way too long 🥰 3y
BookwormAHN I'm interested I've only read the first two 😺 3y
Addison_Reads I'd be interested. I just read The Magician's Nephew for the first time and can't wait to read the rest of the series. 3y
throwmeabook Yes, definitely! Count me in! 3y
Daisey I would love to do this, but I really don‘t know that I can fit it into my schedule. I will definitely follow posts. 3y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I've never read them and might be interested, but likely overextended already. Stupid work getting in the way! 🤣🤣🤣 3y
wordslinger42 I love Narnia, but I don't think I can fit in another readalong without abandoning my other challenges! Enjoy though 😊 3y
rubyslippersreads I‘m also overextended (as always), but I haven‘t read these in years. Please add me to the list of Littens being tagged, and I‘ll do my best. 😊 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @BookwormAHN Looks like it might just be be and you coming over... I read them, but in like 1990/1991 so 30 years ago! 😂 I remember The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe well, the others not so much. 3y
JazzFeathers @Riveted_Reader_Melissa l'd love to, but l really have my hands full at the moment. Shame, though. I've only read the first book ages ago. 3y

Does anyone know of an illustrated version of The Chronicles of Narnia? I'm look for an unabridged version, and the pictures don't have to be colorful or overly detailed or anything.

I have been reading the OZ books to my 5 year old, and we're ready for a change. The pictures just help keep her interested amidst all the text.

Thanks in advance!

katlyn447 @That-Bookish-Hiker Thank you so so much! This is even better than I'd hoped to find! 🦁 3y

We had to do Christmas a day early this year because the husband works on Christmas day. These are the books I received from the husband and kids. Some non-fiction, crime, childhood favourites and fantasy....I love the variety!

#20series20days

I realized as I‘m posting this that I apparently have a smartass friend who doesn‘t like the published order for the Narnia books. Of course now that I know they are out of order, I‘m going to have to fix them or it would drive me crazy. (I‘m pretty sure I know who did this... 🤪🤣)

You can see this is another set of books I‘ve read many times. A favorite of my childhood.
(Day 10)

Chrissyreadit The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe was not first? 4y
lahousewyfe That was the set I had as a child! 4y
Lesanne I still have this set that I read as a child! 4y

TheAromaofBooks @Chrissyreadit - LWW was the first one to be published, but it isn't the first on chronologically. Above, the books are in chronological order. The numbers on the spines represent published order. Funny enough, chronological is now the popular way and if you buy a set today, the numbers will match that order instead of published. Personally, I strongly prefer the published order, but it's a heated debate! 😂 4y
Chrissyreadit Ah! Ok- I prefer published as well. He actually builds more that way. In the chronological order there is information that doesn‘t have the same impact or understanding so I thought it was odd that it was switched. 4y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I've never read these (but watched the few movies released). I picked up a huge volume containing them all in one place at a used book sale a couple years ago. Maybe I'll work through them after I finish Percy Jackson. 4y
Andrew65 A great choice. 4y

Opinions please!! I'm starting the Narnia series from tomorrow for the first time. I noticed that the actual order of books are different from the published order. So which order would you guys recommend to read them in?

TobeyTheScavengerMonk As a lifelong Narnian, I say 100% publishing order. Start with The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. 4y
olivia.ferz @TobeyTheScavengerMonk Is there any specific reason? I was doing a little online search and apparently the order in which the books are to be read is a very debated topic. Majority supported the published order, while some said the chronological order was less confusing and more logical. 4y

vlwelser They are all such separate stories. You might be fine just reading them in any order. I hated The Last Battle. Save that for the end. 4y
xicanti I‘ve always gone with chronological, but that‘s just because it‘s how my parents read the books to me way back when. Honestly, I don‘t think it makes a huge difference. With chronological, you‘ll get a few, “hey, I know about that!” moments throughout TLTW&TW. With publication, you‘ll get to fill in some gaps in the backstory when you hit TMN. 4y
Lcsmcat I think it is (slightly) advantageous to read The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe first. But they are delightful in any order. 4y
olivia.ferz @vlwelser Thanks! Will do! 😃 4y
olivia.ferz @xicanti I think I'll read them in the published order. I'd like a few surprises. 4y
olivia.ferz @Lcsmcat Yep. I'll be reading them in the published order. So I guess that come first. 4y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk Wardrobe -> Prince Caspian -> Dawn Treader (❤️) -> Silver Chair all tell one continuous story that builds. Horse & His Boy was published next and takes place at the same time as Wardrobe, but I think going from Wardrobe straight to Caspian works better from a character perspective. The Magician‘s Nephew is a prequel that I think works better when you know the world. And The Last Battle is, well, the last battle. 4y
