This #badsummary can be broken down way too short - or does it make it even better??

Short: ➿The nanny has an affair with her boss, then his wife burns down the house.➿

Long: ➿So this poor girl gets a job as a nanny and gets seduced by her boss (fyi: he sometimes wears drag). Then she finds out he's already married, but after his wife burns down the house they get hitched anyways. She also sees a lot of ghosts and wins the lottery. The end.➿

I already regret commiting to it, but I am participant to a #BookFitnessChallenge. Why, Nina, why? I hate sports. I'm way to lazy for this! I keep procrastinating, even though my back aches & my posture is that of an 75yo. We'll see if communal support & peer pressure will be enough to get moving. Thanks to @wanderinglynn I challenged myself with:

I confess that I cannot understand the #hype. Yes, her story is harsh & her progess admirable, but the way she told it was just too shallow for me. She keeps forgetting her siblings, the families miraculous luck with terrible injuries confuse me, as does her keeping focus on her academic career and completely skipping over other aspects of life... I'm sure writing this book must have been therapeutic, but ripe for publication it seems not 🤷🏻‍♀️

Tamra You hit the nail on the head and is part of the reason I‘m not typically a memoir reader - this read like therapy. Like many, an essay/article would have sufficed. 4w

If you liked ?"Almost Famous" you'll love this. The interview style is a brilliant format for this -especially as full-cast #audiobook- so much so that i doubt the tv adaptation will leave enough room for the gaps that make the story so interesting. An exemplaric study of rock musics best years through a fake band. And also a #feminist story of the most extrordinary women and the most average men & differences in female friendships and male ones.

If you need a nice easy read but also want a more feminist twist to the old midlife-crisis romance this is the book for you! It pretty neatly captures the colours, smells and the hubub of india from european eyes. Fun and likeable, predictable yet non-boring. Perfect to let the mind travel when the summer holidays are still too far off... 🇮🇳❤️🐯🌺 ps: the german title translation is way off and not representative!

A great choice to have this horrible ordeal narrated by the 5 year old son of the protagonist, which leaves just enough distance to not be completely overwhelmed by the premise of the book. The last bit was a bit petering out, as the story had obviously run it‘s course and finding an ending must have been a thankless task, but that didn‘t much retract from this tale of motherly strentgh!

I‘d previously refused listening to this best seller because i really can‘t stand ben affleck (yes, very logical, i know). Turns out it‘s a new twist on the old plot twist device. A modern perspective on marriage and public opinion, though i‘m not too sure whether the feminist ideas adressed have been fully executed - it is about a ‚crazy bitch‘ after all... but again: a refreshing take for a mainstream thriller.

I usually like Rainbow Rowell, but this one i really couldn‘t warm up to. Maybe it‘s because we have a shift from the usual YA protagonist to a full blown mother and wife? I felt some disparity between her teen voice of writing and the older 1st person narrator. Maybe it‘d have caught my interest later, but i had to abandon after 1,5hrs... sorry, Rainbow.
