Trying to decide on one of these for #Booked2020 #HatOnCover. I guess the Palahniuk is kind of a head covering? 🤷‍♀️ Lol, Not Me would be a reread but I only remember I loved it but nothing beyond that! Anyone have any thoughts? #AskLitsy #Recommendsday #suggestions @cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft @LibrarianRyan @MrBook

#askLitsy is there a trick to get my title cover visible instead or zoomed in like this so it looks more pleasant??

ljuliel I don‘t know of a way to do it in here but there might be and I just don‘t know how. I use an app called Pic Collage where you can do all sorts of nifty things with your photos. 4y
LinesUponAPage Hi @ljuliel in Pic Collage do you use a certain size format? 4y
Buechersuechtling Litsy only allows square photos/screenshots, so I take all my images from a distance. 4y

ljuliel Pic collage just uses whatever photo you have in your photos. You size it in there. I guess the easy way in here would be as mentioned above, hold the book further away so it turns out smaller. If you‘re doing a screenshot of the cover, that won‘t work though. 4y

On top of making Litsy super sensitive I‘m missing several people in my timeline. And sometimes when I go to their page it says they haven‘t posted at all. This app has been so persnickety since the update.

#AskLitsy

jb72 Yeah the update has made the app so sensitive. It drives me crazy. 4y
ljuliel I looked through my list the other day and noticed several long time members haven‘t posted anytime recently. I just thought they moved on or haven‘t been participating for other reasons ? I know it‘s been really hard to scroll through the posts , it keeps flipping to a different post. I didn‘t know if it was the last Apple update or something wonky with Litsy. 4y
CBee I‘ve had the same problem! It‘s super sensitive! 4y
See All 7 Comments
ShananigansReads @ljuliel it‘s definitely the update as far as the sensitivity. I saw lots of reports on FB and I think Litsy is waiting to see if Apple puts out a fix. 😕 4y
LibrarianRyan I too have noticed people falling off my feed, people who used to post a lot. I figured some have just gotten busy, but others, if I go look under their name, they have been posting. 4y
ShananigansReads @LibrarianRyan great it‘s not just me. I hope a fix comes soon. I love Litsy but it hasn‘t been as fun lately. (Probably cause I‘m not seeing all I should) (edited) 4y
LibrarianRyan @Bookjunkie57 I see so many new people, which is great, but I miss the people i have had a longtime report with. 4y

• ASK LITSY: The library is hollering for this one back 🤫 Is it worth starting before I return it in the next few days? As in, did you find it captivating and hard to put down? If so, I might try it... •

I‘m shelving my personal library after moving apartments this summer. This is part of my secondary paper book TBR. Which should be bumped up?
These range from “have wanted to read for ages” to “picked up on a whim at ALAMW 2016” and I need your help deciding if any are must-reads for me 🤓
About my reading preferences: queer, POC, neurodiverse stories to the front! UN-recommends also appreciated. #askLitsy

zembla I've heard great things about We Love You, Charlie Freeman and The Geek Feminist Revolution, but I haven't read either yet. I'm definitely hoping to read the former in 2019. 5y
Sweettartlaura Bel Canto is one of my top 10 books ever. Move it up 👍🏻. And People of the Book is beautiful 🙂 Make that one happen soon, too. 5y
See All 18 Comments
Elma I haven't read it yet, but Will Grayson, Will Grayson is supposed to be great queer ya fiction. 5y
kgriffith @Sweettartlaura Bel Canto was a tossup for primary vs secondary, so your vote tips the scales! Got another one for People of the Book on fb so that‘s two votes there, I‘m thinking it‘s gonna make the cut 😃 5y
kgriffith @christinamcc if it doesn‘t make it to my primary list, I‘ll definitely be watching others‘ posts to see if they inform my decision to bump anything as the year goes! 5y
kgriffith @LMJenkins This is one that‘s come up over and over in the last several years, and I think maybe I was just looking for someone to say “read this.” 🙂 5y
Sweettartlaura Whoo hoo 🙌🏻 5y
StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego The only one I've read is Bel Canto. It wasnt bad. It's a slow story, but it makes the ending more impactful that way. 5y
julesG The Eco. Always good writing! 5y
rwmg Bel Canto for all round excellence. Also has ethnic and linguistic diversity 5y
rwmg Though I should admit I haven't read the others 5y
Susanita I loved Bel Canto and People of the Book. 5y
Soubhiville I absolutely love Robin Hobb! 5y
corycatelyn The only one I've read is will grayson, will grayson. It was good 😊 5y
Well-ReadNeck I second all of the ones mentioned above. Also loved 5y
Well-ReadNeck For what it‘s worth, lots of shorter books in here. Great for a readathon or just to feel like you‘re getting off to a good start if u put a few at the top! 5y
kgriffith @Well-ReadNeck Yep, I pulled a stack of five of so of the shortest for that very reason :) 5y

A friend of mine wants to know what happens when she cancels her Audible. She keeps her books right? Can she still use Audible app on her phone? #asklitsy

Slajaunie Yes you can keep your books and use the app. Cancelled mine two weeks ago. 6y
sprainedbrain Yep, you keep what you bought and the app still works. 6y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @Slajaunie @sprainedbrain Thank You! I'll pass it on. 6y

Dear Litsy hive mind, I need suggestions. A coworker is trying to read a book a month, and he goes to the Philippines soon for a work trip. He wants a book, fiction or non, that will introduce him to Filipino culture. Any suggestions? #asklitsy

MarriedtoMrT @Chachic Do you have any suggestions? 6y
bookishdawg “In the Country” by Mia Alvar is a great short story collection 👍🏻 6y
See All 15 Comments
EllieDottie I don‘t know if this is representative but I recommend 6y
brennahawleycraig @EllieDottie thank you! I think he‘s really interested in anything about the country. 6y
brennahawleycraig @Kristy_K I didn‘t even think of searching for a Goodreads list! Excellent idea!‘ 6y
batsy This is supposed to be a classic and I'm planning to read it myself this year 6y
Chachic @MarriedtoMrT Thanks for tagging me. @brennahawleycraig What genre does your friend want to read? Also how modern? Because we can recommend Filipino classics but they will be outdated. I see Noli Me Tangere being rec'd here and that's set back when the country was still colonized by Spain in the 1800s. Tagging fellow Filipinos here on Litsy, in case they have suggestions too. @GatheringBooks @bentchbites @willreadforfeels @kochtob 6y
bentchbites Thanks @Chachic for tagging me! Im trying to think of English works that can represent modern Philippine culture but all im coming up with are contemporary romance. 6y
willreadforfeels Thanks for the tag @Chachic! I think one question I would have is what is he interested in learning about Filipino culture? There are so many aspects and regions to learn about. Does he want a book that will immerse him in socio-politics? Our pop culture? Our food culture? Mythology? Something more slice of life? 6y
brennahawleycraig @willreadforfeels he says history, socio-political and culture side of things would be best! 6y
kochtob thank you for tagging me @Chachic ! @brennahawleycraig your friend might want to check out "The Mango Bride" by Marivi Soliven Blanco. i have a few issues about how some of the language feels anachronistic (but you'd only notice that if you're a local), but it tackles socio-political issues that are still relevant today. the topic is heavy, but the writing is fluid...so quite an easy read in my opinion :) 6y
brennahawleycraig @kochtob thank you!!! That sounds like an excellent recommendation!! 6y
willreadforfeels @brennahawleycraig: I‘d probably say it‘s hard to get a grasp of our political situation without a sense of the political feudalism and cronyism mixed with a kind of mystical fatalism typical of our system so maybe something by Ninotchka Rosa (her novel Twice Blessed is a fave of mine) or perhaps Empire of Memory by Eric Gamalinda. For something more contemporary with an edge of snark I‘d say go with essays by Jessica Zafra 6y

I showed The Kid a booksleeve on Etsy and now she desperately wants one... Oops 😅 I should probably get her a regular sized sleeve since most of her AR books are pretty small but I still bring home big picture books for her... #AskLitsy

TheKidUpstairs Maybe contact an Etsy retailer to see if they'll make a custom size? @bookgogo can you help? 6y
MiyakoBunny That‘s true most Etsy retailers are good about customizing things 🙂 6y

Gezemice Seems something rather easy to make out of fabric if you sew but you could probably make it from paper, too. You could use wrapping paper which is large enough. (edited) 6y
BookGoGo I make custom sized sleeves all the time - any good Etsy maker can take your customised measurements and make it work - thanks for the tag @TheKidUpstairs (edited) 6y
LibrarianJen @BooksTeasAndBookishThings might know of some. She has a whole collection of sleeves! 6y
BooksTeasAndBookishThings @LibrarianJen thanks ❤️ and I would just ask for a custom size and see if any of the shops can do one for you. I personally love AuAlternateUniverse the best on ETSY, and she finds all kinds of fun fabrics and is willing to work with custom orders. 6y
EchoLogical Thanks everyone! I'm gonna look around a little more on Etsy and contact someone. @BooksTeasAndBookishThings @LibrarianJen @bookgogo @Gezemice @MiyakoBunny @TheKidUpstairs 6y
