Soulless | Gail Carriger

I got lost down the rabbit hole that is fanfiction. I love reading but sometimes (Most of the time) it's too much for me to get emotionally invested in another fictional character. So I always end up turning back to books I've read before because it seems safer. I'm trying to get better.....I'm rereading Soulless for the third time this year but I am trying. Does anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions? #readerproblem #help #suggestions

Hey all, especially #educators and #teachers! I'm looking for recommendations for our #Scholastic book fair selection! As the chair PTA committee chair, I'm discussing stock and am in need of picture books without tv characters, early reader chapter books, middle grade graphic novels other than Raina Telgemeier and NF for reluctant readers. #bookfair #raisingreaders #librarians #suggestions

Bookzombie I‘m not an educator or a teacher but I recommend this one. 6mo
IamIamIam @Bookzombie Thank you!!! I only threw that in there because people with classroom libraries are excellent sources for recommendations. 😁 All opinions and suggestions are equally valued and appreciated! 💓 6mo

IamIamIam @LibrarianRyan Great call!!! We love Tiny Titans and we've met Art a few times at Comic Con! My kids have drawings he did while we hung out and chatted with him. I'll definitely see if Scholastic offers those! 🤟💜 6mo
emtobiasz Dragon Masters (chapter books) are a recent hit at my library! 6mo

I'm looking for some more reads by queer/LGBTQ+ authors and need some help! Any #suggestions?

sprainedbrain Not sure what all you have read, but I have enjoyed Michelle Tea and David Levithan... I‘m sure I can think of others but those two come to mind. 😃 7mo
LogiKitty @sprainedbrain I haven't read any yet! Do you have any favorites by them? 7mo
sprainedbrain Why, yes! Black Wave by Michelle Tea (it‘s kind of weird, though) and Every Day by David Levithan. 7mo

As promised @Cinfhen here are some works by Indigenous Canadian authors. The tagged book is a work of non-fiction, but the rest are fiction. I‘ve only read the Waubgeshig Rice book to date. It‘s a dystopian novel set on a Northern Ontario reserve - it‘s very good. I used to recommend Joseph Boyden, as his books are incredible, but there is a lot of controversy about whether he is actually Indigenous. I‘ll tag a few more in the comments.

Melissa_J Here is an incredible work of non-fiction (it made me so angry) 8mo
Melissa_J Work of fantasy (first in a trilogy) 8mo

Melissa_J Award winning dystopian (I‘m looking forward to reading this one) 8mo
Melissa_J One more 😊 8mo
RaimeyGallant I want to come back to this post! #AboriginalLit 8mo
AudreyMorris I am doing the Indigenous Canada course with the University of Alberta on Coursera right now (7/12 weeks done). There is no reading, it‘s all video, so I put some fiction on hold. So I have novels by Lindberg, Wagamese, Earling, and LaDuke all waiting for me. I‘ll read as many as I can while I have them!! 8mo
valeriegeary Oooooooo! I think I need to screenshot this post and investigate these titles further. They look intriguing! 8mo
CouronneDhiver Wagamese is the best author ever... just sayin 😉 @Cinfhen 8mo
llwheeler Birdie is very good. I imagine it won't appeal to every reader, but it's very good. 8mo
Cinfhen Thanks so much for all these recommendations!!! Im intrigued by so many!!!!!! #Booked2019 #IndigenousAuthor #Suggestions 8mo
Cinfhen Will definitely check out Wagamese @CouronneDhiver but so many others have caught my eye as well!!! 8mo
Melissa_J @AudreyMorris that‘s cool! What prompted you to take the course? 7mo
Melissa_J @valeriegeary I hope you get to check some of them out 😊 7mo
Melissa_J @CouronneDhiver I am going to (finally) read him in 2019 7mo
Melissa_J @llwheeler that‘s good to hear. 7mo
Melissa_J @Cinfhen you‘re welcome 😊 7mo
AudreyMorris @Melissa_J 1/2 I have taken 3 previous Coursera courses, all lit based. I had been looking for another and they seem to have fewer lit-based courses 🙁. I looked at some other MOOC sites but nothing struck my fancy. I double majored in history and geography (30 years ago) and have often looked at those sorts of classes, but they always look too easy for a former major. Then I got an email of “classes you may be interested in”. Usually I‘m not lol. 7mo
AudreyMorris @Melissa_J 2/2 Usually they are all coding stuff (so not me!). But this time “Indigenous Canada” was the first suggestion. I actually took a Canadian History survey course back in the day, but know nothing much about Indigenous Canada other than that the history is very different than the US. I‘m learning tons and it‘s very interesting but I do wish there were readings. The videos are very well done though. 7mo

Has anyone tried these cli-fi short stories with narration on Amazon Prime? It looks like they have some good authors and they are in Goodreads database if anyone is looking for shorter things to reach their reading challenges

Pickpick

I really loved this #genrebuster of a story. Whimsical, lush, magical, mysterious and absolutely dazzling, Diane Setterfield transported me to a different era and place. It‘s the story of miracles, hope, belief and promise. Not my usual fare but I absolutely loved this book. Thank you @SimonSchuster ❤️Pick up a copy December 4!!!!!

hilded Looking forward to this! Just as good as 8mo
