Hey to all my fellow medical professionals, I thought this was really neat! Some authors are giving signed copies of their books to medical staff as a thank you❤️ Check this out to sign up: https://www.facebook.com/121506392/posts/10102876053099546/?d=n

My friend Kondofied her shelves. And sparked *my* joy 😆

The top one is a small collection of Heloise and Abelard's letters from the Penguin Great Loves series, plus James McCain, Euripides, Joyce, Forster, Cesaire, Sartre, Avinuo Kire (a Nagaland author, from India's northeast), and a selection of letters from Laura Cereta, a Renaissance-era Italian feminist.

vivastory This stack is excellent. I LOVE Cesaire's poetry. 5y
batsy @rabbitprincess Can't believe I haven't read or watched it! 🙈 5y
batsy @vivastory I'm so looking forward to reading him! 5y
vivastory His plays aren't quite as good as his poetry, but they still contain some great lyricism. If you enjoy it I definitely recommend looking into his poetry, pref. the Clayton Eshleman translation. Eshleman also translated another favorite 20th century poet (whose early demise was the basis for Bolano's novella Monsieur Pain) Cesar Vallejo. 5y
batsy Thanks @vivastory I'm not familiar with his poetry and it's great to have translation recs, as well. Also, not read any Cesar Vallejo (adding to the list!) and definitely need to check out Monsieur Pain (just read the blurb, sounds enticing in that Bolano-esque way as always!) 5y
LeahBergen I really enjoyed James M. Cain. And the Heloise and Abelard letters are fab! 5y

Book therapy photo challenge

What book did you pick up, recommended, went looking for when....
Books and most of all reading helps comfort, makes you smile, makes you think, helps you as a person.

So... i thought we could as Littens share the books that helped us. As a librarian I'm always looking for books who will make someone's day or moment.

April... smell the blooming 🌸

Wife I don‘t often participate in photo challenges, but this is such a charming idea that I may try a few. If not, I‘ll be following what other Littens post. 💙 6y
writerlibrarian @Wife follow, participate once or more is all fine. I don't post every day, life happens but at least once during the month, and it's much more that once 😁, I find one book that just sings to me... that's what I hope this challenge brings to Littens. 6y

A word, a sentence, a page, a book. Reading helps heal the mind and heart. Bibliotherapy originated in Ancient Greece. In North America, soldiers coming back from WW1 found help from the librarians working in military hospital. Kathleen Jones and Sadie Peterson Delaney established bibliotherapy in VA hospitals in the 1920s. What book did you pick up, recommended, went looking for when....

How are we #survivingdecember

#Rocktober #day12 #NoSurprises There should be no surprise that I've bought over 20 books in the last month. And I still have orders coming, not to mention my subscription boxes, plus a preorder of Bon Scotts new biography (AC/DC forever!🤘) Now I'm able to see the words on a page again, I should power through my TBR. Right? No bookdepository.com you cannot tempt me with your evil emails🙅🏼

Truly grateful for this Straits Times feature on my research project and the course I teach in our institution which came out around two weeks ago. Picture books, indeed, are not just for children. They did a photo shoot of my library at home and this is what they ultimately selected for their feature.

Also, for those who may be curious, this is most of my non-ebook, non-audiobook fiction collection (authors with last names from Wi through Z are in the living room as I ran out of space). This is a 12 foot long wall full of fiction. My husband is, sadly, a non-reader, so all of these are mine (the 2 cubicles of non-books are his). Our house is tiny, and our housemate reads almost as much as I do, so books are shoehorned in wherever they will fit!

GlitteryOtters A lot of these books aren't available on ebook or audiobook, but when they are (and when I can get a good price) I've been switching to digital versions. I need to sort through & get some books ready for donation as I've picked up some really good ebook deals over the past year. Maybe I'll be able to squeeze all of my physical fiction books into the bedroom if I do that?? 😂 8y

amywithbooks Wow!! I could not be more jealous!! 8y
ValerieAndBooks 😍 nice! You can also argue that these books provide insulation during your cold winters 😊! 8y
rubyslippersreads @GlitteryOtters I've been doing the same, as books become ebooks. The upside of your husband not being a reader--more room for your books ! 😄 8y
LauraBeth I want to come over 😀 8y
DebinHawaii Amazing! I would never want to leave the room! 📚📚📚📚📚❤️ 8y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag This is amazing! (And neat! My bookshelf is so messy at the moment) 8y
GlitteryOtters @Merethebookgal thank you!! It's been a good 30 years in the making (some of these books I've had since early grade school years 😂). 8y
GlitteryOtters @Eyelit it is SO awesome to wake up & have this be one of the first things I see. 😍 My husband is not quite so enamored, but he knows that the books & I are a package deal--if he wants me, he has to put up with a few thousand books in the house too. 😂😂 8y
GlitteryOtters @avgeyer there were a good 7-8 years where I did NO travel at all and split my travel budget 75/25 between savings for a house downpayment & book investments, that is the only way I was able to amass such a collection. As I am back to traveling again (next trip is 16 days from now!), my book funds are much lower. 8y
GlitteryOtters @ValerieAndBooks that's funny that you say that...part of the way I was able to convince my husband to let me do this layout was that I argued that books are great sound absorbers. My home is actually one of 6 family units built for WWII war effort factory workers all joined together in one big, long building. Our bedroom is next to our neighbor's bedroom & she likes to have very vocal screaming meltdowns on the phone with her parents... 8y
GlitteryOtters @ValerieAndBooks ...at 1 or 2 in the morning. I sold him on the idea of installing the bookcases there to help absorb the sounds from next door so we could start getting more sleep! It works! The bedroom is a bit tight (12'X10', so 18" deep bookcases really cut down on room size), but the better sleep is WORTH IT. ?? 8y
GlitteryOtters @rubyslippersreads definitely a good upside to him not being a reader...he does have a ton of old video game & computer magazines from 90s/00s he refuses to downsize (aren't those computer ones at least a wee bit out of date?! 😂), and his cookbook collection is pretty epic (between my cookbook collection, his & our housemate's--she's a culinary school trained professional chef--we have about 100-125 cookbooks & culinary reference books!) 8y
GlitteryOtters @LauraBeth we should be VERY easy to find as it is a home football game weekend here at University of Michigan...follow the hordes of people singing "Hail to the Victors" until you reach the football stadium, head east for about 2.5 miles, hang a right at the pizza shop & the small thrift shop with the excellent used book selection & I'm a short walk behind them ?? 8y
GlitteryOtters @DebinHawaii thankfully I love to cook and bake, or I never would leave this room! It is pretty heavenly! And on the other side of the bed is a row of wardrobes with mirror doors reflecting all the books back at you, so no matter where you look, you either see my giant backyard (2 acres shared with my neighbors) or you see books. Best bedroom ever. 💕 8y
GlitteryOtters @thegirlwiththelibrarybag it usually is somewhat neat because I worked too many years in a bookstore (and it is drilled into you to always be obsessively fronting books, keeping them neat, etc., and it becomes second nature!). It is slightly less neat now as I did sort through the books and pull out some I can donate, so there are now some stacks of books behind the top row of books that aren't too neat (see behind me in the IG pic with the dress) 8y
LauraBeth @GlitteryOtters sounds like my kind of town! 8y
