I didn‘t read this as a child, and I don‘t recall reading it to my children. It‘s such a beautiful story, and I am enjoying reading some of the books missed when I was younger.

I didn't get out on Small Business Saturday to support my local indie, so I treated myself to some new audiobooks and tossed them a little support via libro.fm.
A friend from high school passed away a couple of months ago. A week before he died, he asked for book recs. He never got around to mine, but he said he had read The Wind in the Willows a few times. I'll honor his upcoming birthday by finally reading it.
Kind of surprised it's classified as a children's classic. A glance at Wikipedia suggests Kenneth Grahame may have been writing from life, and while it's more focused on good and bad qualities of the individual than commentary on society as a whole, thematically it feels more directed towards an older reader. Wistful, beautiful writing clashing with one too many chapters dealing with a narcissistic, near sociopathic Toad. 1/?
Flowery writing about flowers. I am charmed!
Next up.... a children's book.

Just as wonderful as I remembered. Witty and whimsical, the perfect read for an afternoon curled up on the sofa, feeling rotten with bronchitis! Cheered me up no end. So lovely on friendship and the joys of nature… the riverbank seems a pretty idyllic place to be.
As I had to wait for the second-hand bookshop to open, I whiled away some time looking in a charity shop, where I picked up a copy of WitW, which is a glaring hole in my reading record. I also popped into Action Records, where I found Belle and Sebastian's latest, an old Beck disc of remixes from his Guero album, and a compilation of Courtney Barnett EPs 🐸🐀📗💿

One of my all-time favourites and a pleasure at any age, though perhaps an adult might get more out of it. This novel about a gentlemen's club of small creatures who enjoy pottering about, thinking, and the finer things in life has some interesting subtexts.
Shelf 21/21 in my #BookshelfTour
This shelf is an overflow shelf combined with a bunch of books from when I was kid that I am having a blast sharing with my nieces and nephews 😊

I love the candle so much I know it‘s going to be my new favorite office accessory and this edition of WitW is going on the special editions shelf ❤️ I‘m so excited to try the recipes! I love pomegranates #recipeswap @BennettBookworm great success 👩🍳
This was referenced somewhere along the way in other reading though I can‘t remember where. It was an interesting and quirky story. I knew nothing going in so it was a bit unexpected but enjoyed.

Day 260.
Here I will note 365 books (or as many as I will have before I get tired) that have shaped my taste in literature. No explanations, no reviews. Just the cover of the book.
I do not challenge anyone. You are all welcome to take part.
Thank you for the #Two4Tuesday tag @TheSpineView !! ❤
1 - It's honestly so hard to decide. I love the crocuses and daffodils because they're first - love the lilacs because they smell AMAZING - I just love watching the garden wake up in the spring!!
2 - I don't know if it's because the story starts with Mole spring cleaning, but there is just something about the tagged book that always gives me those spring vibes!!

“The river still chattered to him, a babbling procession of the best stories in the world...“ --Kenneth Grahame, “The Wind in the Willows“
Thanks @BookNAround for the great bookmarks for the #summerbookmarkswap. The wind in and the willows was one of my childhood favourites and I just introduce it to my son, so that one is my favourite of the ones you sent.
Thanks @cwarnier for organizing this

I really enjoyed this breezy little book. My copy has an intro and afterword by Jane Yolen, and she calls it three stories in one: Toad‘s adventure story; the friendship tales of Rat, Mole, and Badger; and the Pan interlude. I liked the friendship best, as I found Toad unlikeable and the interlude odd. My June #DoubleSpin and first goal met for #AnyWayYouReadathon !
Well, just over one week into the #14Books14Weeks2021 challenge and I have just started my sixth stacked book! I already read Dead Ever After, Medea, Hidden Figures (young readers edition), Dragon Pearl, and A Thousand Questions. Now I‘m working on the tagged, my #DoubleSpin selection.
Well, my June #bookspin is a free space, and #doublespin is the tagged. Away we go #bookspinbingo @TheAromaofBooks
I adored this story. It‘s a book i would love to re-read, although this time from an edition which has illustrations as gorgeous as @ju.ca.no ‘s copy. It‘s a simple story but one full of many lessons for children & adults alike. Ratty, Mole, Toad, & Badger live in the countryside & go through many moments of adventures & thrill, constituting lessons for life – friendship, forgiveness, love, helpfulness, appreciation for nature & its bounty. 👇🏽
Reading a chapter a day with @Tanisha_A 💙 such a lovely and cozy read! And I‘m in love with the illustrations in my copy😍
Dates for the weekend! 😁
Happy weekend, everyone!

After mainly focusing on audio books during the last two weeks I‘m now diving back into this book☺️the beginning was cute! Looking foward to the rest💙
This book was both charming and frustrating. The character of Mr. Toad is an annoying, impulsive blowhard... but thank god he‘s in the story, as otherwise not much of anything would have happened. It was a unique interesting read overall, but there are huge plot holes and issues that make zero sense, especially in relation to Mr. Toad. I could probably talk for a half hour or so about my mixed feelings about this book!😂
My dad gifted me a new book 😍 I‘m going to dive right into it - a nice end to a nice weekend and hopefully a nice start into a 3-day work week with hopefully a lot of reading time😍
I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new. Don‘t judge me - I have a lot of books. Join the fun if you want.
This is day 141

I'm just going to tag the Wind in the Willows for every picture of mini libraries in Austin tx, because I always loved sitting by a creek after a walk, eating a sandwich and drinking an iced tea and reading that book. Walks where I see mini libraries remind me of that feeling.

The story started off ok but I wasn‘t to fond of some of the concepts found in the book. The friendships seemed more like gaslighting than real friends not to mention the unlawful activities that the book just brushes off. However the writing was beautiful so it does have that going for it.
Languishing on my TBR shelves for years, I was recently reminded of Grahame's book thanks to a Michiko Kakutani tweet quoting it while referring to T***p's ongoing refusal to concede. I was familiar with a few of the basic narratives, but this had quite a bit more going for it & was a pleasant surprise. Linguistically rich, thematically mature & filled with life lessons important for all ages. Can def see this being a future comfort read.
I loved this book as a kid, and coming back to it now as an adult I loved it all over again. It wasnt perfect by any means, but nonetheless it took me back to my childhood and that was all I hoped for.

September 2020 (audiobook)
I really love this book - it is so beautifully written - and I thought the narrator was suitably English. Luke also found the small parts he listened to amusing. It failed, however, to catch the girls‘ attention. I do recall reading it to Polly years ago and she enjoyed it, but I feel audiobooks with simpler language, such as the Laura Ingalls‘ books, work better for Beatrix right now.
Dad read out loud to us a lot, but I particularly remember this one - Mr. Toad getting almost run over by the car & yearning for one of his own - my dad's “Poop, poop!“ will be with me always! 😂
Walkin' on Sunshine by Katrina & the Waves - apparently before I could even walk this song was enough to get me bouncing!!
So, so much. Today especially time hanging with my sister/best friend. ❤

When it‘s 🐪day of a long week & you are working from home & should be preparing for a conference call but see that today‘s celebrity reader on Book Depository‘s #readtogether is Neil Gaiman, you must take a quick break & listen to it with a cuppa. 😉 It‘s just a 6-minute excerpt but Neil could read the phonebook & I‘d be happy. 😍🤗

A book loved by many. Sadly, I just couldn't get into it. Maybe I am already to grown up to enjoy this story. But I constantly kept asking myself “Where and how did they get that bacon from?“ 😏
Also, the animals distance themselves from humans, but keep interacting with them anyways, and all in all also totally act like humans (including playing war).
But I liked the pictures.
It's just such a cute and funny collection of the adventures of Mr.Toad and his friends.
“The smell of that buttered toast simply talked to Toad, and with no uncertain voice; talked of warm kitchens, of breakfasts on bright frosty mornings, of cosy parlour firesides on winter evenings, when one's ramble was over and slippered feet were propped on the fender, of the purring of contented cats, and the twitter of sleepy canaries.” #breakfast #QuotsyFeb20
