Adulthood Is a Myth
Adulthood Is a Myth: A Sarah's Scribbles Collection | Sarah Andersen
These casually drawn, perfectly on-point comics by the hugely popular young Brooklyn-based artist Sarah Andersen are for the rest of us. They document the wasting of entire beautiful weekends on the internet, the unbearable agony of holding hands on the street with a gorgeous guy, anddreaming all day of getting home and back into pajamas. In other words, the horrors and awkwardnesses of young modern life. Oh and they are totally not autobiographical. At all.Adulthood Is a Myth presents many fan favorites plus dozens of all-new comics exclusive to this book. Like the work of fellow Millennial authors Allie Brosh, Grace Helbig, and Gemma Correll, Sarah's frankness on personal issues like body image, self-consciousness, introversion, relationships, and the frequency of bra-washing makes her comics highly relatable and deeply hilarious.

My August 2019 books read, part 1. My favorites were all of the Sarah Andersen books. The Gown was a lovely story about friendship and perseverance. My husband did the audiobook of The River and really enjoyed it, maybe I would have enjoyed it more if I had listened too.

So much truth in this book, it hurts. Although the hurt is accompanied by much laughter. She nailed it.

I‘ve always loved Sarah Anderson‘s comics, and I adore her humor. Her books are an incredibly short read and are light-hearted about everyday life, mental health, and being an introvert. If you haven‘t seen her work before, make sure to check her out.

I‘m guessing that many of you already know how great this collection is, because I‘ve seen Andersen‘s cartoons on Litsy a lot. Humour is medicine. It triggers the release of serotonin and endorphins, lowers stress, lifts our mood, helps put problems into perspective, and improves our physical health. We all need to laugh. Littens, keep on posting funny things, ok?

Is it still called metafiction when a cartoonist references #comics conventions? Whatever it‘s called, Andersen uses it brilliantly here.

Sorry, not book related.

My 8 weeks internship got extended so I can stay 4 months longer at my current job as a psychologist for rape victims. However, I‘m not technically employed, because it is a program through the unemployment office, which means I still have to look for other jobs, and I don‘t get paid my full wage. So the above comic describes my current mood quite well.

On the plus side, I get a ton of experience and Mondays off!! 🙌

CoffeeAndABook Oh I understand so well!!! I am also a psychologist in training to become a therapist & I remember all those un(der)paid internships so well. I wouldn‘t miss them for the world though. I learned so much and felt I was in a position to ask and ask endlessly. But wow. Your internship sounds hard! Keeping my fingers crossed that you‘ll find exactly the right longer term job soon 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼 (edited) 7mo

Kalalalatja @CoffeeAndABook @tpixie @JennyM @jpmcwisemorgan @CarolynM @julesG @Lindy you are all so sweet and wise 🤗 I know you all are correct, and most days, it is easy to look at the bright side. But on others, my negativity and insecurities take over, and I feel like I‘ll never get a “real” job, even though what I‘m doing at the moment is VERY REAL! And exciting, and challenging and hard and kinda awesome. So a lot to be positive about ☺️ 7mo

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5)

Calling it quits tonight, but I ended Saturday with this fun, quick read. I don't think I'm the target age group, but I still identified alot with much of it. It kind of made me think of a cross between the Cathy comic strip and Kate Micucci from Garfunkel and Oates. And I'm hoping to make it six hours, maybe even seven. Just depends on how a family outing goes tomorrow.
