Omg, I loved this so much, I almost didn‘t finish it, knowing where it was going. I wasn‘t looking forward to it, because it‘s really not my usual taste, being YA style, but it‘s probably my fave book in a long time

I know I‘m way behind, but this was an excellent pick from start to finish. I was reminded that it was in one of my to-be-read stacks by a student who was reading it. Glad I opened it! Much better than Miller‘s Circe, which I enjoyed. Achilles was much more engrossing, better written, and more lyrical. A wonderful love tale of the great Greek hero!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ another book club read, though I was a bit slow with this one!
I read this for my IRL book club. While I have never cared for Greek (or any) mythology, and still don‘t, this was a beautiful story.
It has been SO long since I have had the time to sit down and finish a book, and this one was my first pick. Unfortunately, I think it was overhyped for me. I can appreciate the love story within this book, but I can‘t say that I was left heartbroken after this read, which so many people have said you would. BUT I do think if you are very interested in Greek mythology you‘ll love this read! 3.5/5 ⭐️
I have had only maybe one or two books that have made me cry and this was one of them. I didn‘t expect to bawl but it was so beautiful. Madeline needs to write more, I love her work so much!!!
A retelling of Homer‘s Iliad focusing on the relationship between Patroclus and Achilles. I was invested from the very beginning. Beautiful writing. Fast paced. Heartbreaking. A story of love and war. #booked2022 #Setinanancientcivilization #thinkgreek

This month I read 13 books, here are 11 of them. My favorites were The Song of Achilles, The Path of Thorns and The Daughter of Doctor Moreau 💙
How has your November gone Courtney @Moonprismpower Mine has been pretty good 😺

It was so-so, read it because to have to teach it. It moves on from how hot Achilles is and explores his egotism. And although true to classical times there is so much violence against women that I don‘t much like it. There is not a strong enough message in it in my perspective.
I loved this book. It may be my favorite of the year. This is the story of the legendary Achilles and his best friend/lover Patroclus. As with Circe it is beautifully written and you know it will lead you to tears but you will treasure every second of it 💙

An amazing historical fiction story about Greek life, war, and a devastating LGBT love story. This book does a great job at setting the scene and being able to easily follow along through imagination. I couldn‘t put it down!
I didn‘t get as much as usual at the B&N Black Friday sale, but I did get this gorgeous signed edition of Song of Achilles, a signed edition of Beyond the Wand, and Ink Black Heart for 50% off. They were also giving away this little reading journal, so I have a nice little journal for the new year. I hope you all had a wonderful thanksgiving!

Soccer practice ready! Heard so many good things about this book and currently on Ch. 4 and I'm liking it.
Up to chapter 11 and the only message I‘m getting from this book is ‘Achilles is hot!‘. It‘s nice, has lovely descriptions, reads like a romance but lacks depth in my opinion.
I finally got to read this wonderful retelling. It was beautiful and full of character development. I loved the narration perspective and the kind love in this book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The writing was beautiful— very poetic. The first half was incredible. I loved all the characters. Their growths were well-written. But during the middle, it felt repetitive with Practolus admiring Achilles and Achilles admiring himself. Their relationship got a little flat at times. I believe there was a lot of missed potential development between them. Overall, this book was a pleasant read. Not a favorite, but I was still invested.
Library Haul! It's been awhile since I've been to the library.

This book was beautifully written and, in my opinion, lived up to the hype. (And I‘m always a sucker for a Greek mythology retelling.) My only small complaint is that every important death felt slightly anticlimactic.
This was another book that I thought was a safe for men book, but I‘m bailing on it for several reasons. Achilles was supposed to be a hero, but instead he impregnates a princess that doesn‘t want his kid. The king stabs a girl to death to bring wind and it worked. Then achilles plunders and Agamemnon (ally of achilles “ was giving us permission for camp followers, for spear-wives and bed slaves. (kindle page 211) I‘m dnfing this book
“In the darkness, two shadows, reaching through the hopeless, heavy dusk. Their hands meet, and light spills in a flood like a hundred golden urns pouring out of the sun.”
Simply beautiful.
This was a fantastic retelling of the myth of Achilles. I like the way she gave the secondary character Patroclus a voice which made Achilles humanity more present in the story.

I've always heard about Achilles' famed heel. This book is so much more than that!!
I am almost done with The People we meet on vacation and I plan on starting this soon.
Unpopular opinion alert: This was only OK for me. It seemed like there was a whole lot of nothing very much happening until the end scenes. I may have expected too much from the rave reviews; I don‘t know. I‘m glad I read “Circe” first—I enjoyed that one more and I might not have picked it up if I‘d already read this one. 🤷🏻♀️
I have no words.
This book is beautifully written.
This is my first Madeline Miller book and I‘m so excited to read her others

3/5 ⭐️ I saw so many wonderful reviews on this book. My review reflects the fact that I am not a lover of Greek mythology. There were also so many names that I couldn‘t keep up with who was who so I got bogged down in that a little bit. The story of the main characters was great and sad. All the emotions. This book reminds me of the Proverbs about pride coming before the fall 😞
Ok you were all right, it‘s amazing and awesome 💔 but you know it‘s a good thing when a book actually lives up to the hype!
Enjoying this book for a 2nd time. One of my favorites.
This time I'm listening to it over Libby but I will say I loved reading the physical book more. The details of the story and of the characters just felt more meaningful.
But absolutely
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌟
A very late entrant to the party. C says I need to read and catch up with the rest of the reading world!
All I can say after finishing this book is, my heart. While I found the book slow to start, I was hooked after being introduced to Achilles. Overall, this is a beautiful love story that had me laughing, crying, and rooting for an ending I knew wasn‘t possible. Highly recommend it for anyone who loves a good retelling of a Greek myth. Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨(4.5/5)

This. Book. This book!!! I just can‘t words with The Song of Achilles because the prose was amazing and the characterization was beautiful and deep. Although I knew what was going to happen at the end, I still sobbed and had to close the book at key moments. And the ending. The ending was beautiful, it‘s definitely something I‘m going to reread, and I absolutely recommend this book.
One of those books where you have to sit with it and wonder how the next book could ever top it. Highly recommend.
