OMG OMG OMG! #droughtlander is finally over! My daughter and I took the day off of #homeschooling to have our own little #readathon to celebrate! First, an early morning trip to the bookstore (she's excited about the recent release of Marissa Meyer's new book "Gilded"), now we get a full day of reading. Yay!! #outlander #raisingreaders

ravenlee One of the best parts of homeschooling is taking days off for really good reasons - like book release day! 3d

I ordered this book (specifically the 40th anniversary edition) from eBay for my daughter's birthday recently. The seller sent me the current edition I could have bought for cheaper on Amazon. 😡 Do any of you wonderful Littens know where I could get my hands on this version, for a reasonable price? I've been Googling and trolling eBay for a month now, but I can't find it. My daughter is a super fan and I would really love to get this for her. TIA

GondorGirl Maybe try AbeBooks? 3mo
LittlePixels @GondorGirl Thanks! I found another one on eBay yesterday. Keeping my fingers crossed that they actually send the right edition this time! 🤞 3mo

(Sorry, no pretty cover in my Kindle version)
So, this was intriguing enough to read, but I honestly kind of expected to hate it. It was dark, crass, vulgar and unrelatable. And I loved it. The sumptuous writing alone was worth the price of admission. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

"Princeton, in the summer, smelled of nothing, and although Ifemelu liked the tranquil greenness of the many trees, the clean streets and stately homes, the delicately overpriced shops, and the quiet, abiding air of earned have, it was this, the lack of a smell, that most appealed to her, perhaps because the other American cities she knew well had all smelled distinctly." - Holy marathon sentence, Batman! #firstlinefridays @ShyBookOwl

Coming up with #3Books that made me uncomfortable was pretty hard. I'm just not made uncomfortable that easily in my reading. These two books definitely did it though. The tagged book because of the subject matter and A Little Life because it was just so, so brutal. I actually had to just put it down for a bit a couple of times to take a break from all the sadness. Still, it's one of my favorite books from the past several years. ❤️💔

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks The tagged book was my choice also, but I was too busy to post that day... I‘m also rarely made uncomfortable in my reading... 1y

Is anyone else a #gamer as well as a reader? I used to kind of hide it, as some people see it as childish, or a guy thing or whatever, but now I'm too old to care! I love this bookshelf; the juxtaposition of my game guides right next to my classics (they're to the right on this shelf) sums me right up. 😜 Now, back to Borderlands! #gamergirl

GrilledCheeseSamurai Yaaaaas! I'm a gamer! Also...im actually playing New Leaf right now on my 3DS cuz the hype is real for the one coming on Switch and it get me wanting to play Animal Crossing again. 😅 Also a big fan of Stardew Valley so this pic, for me, is 🔥. 2y

LittlePixels @GrilledCheeseSamurai I've been getting back into New Leaf a bit too. New Horizons can't get here fast enough! 2y
LittlePixels @GrilledCheeseSamurai Also, if you like Stardew, you'd love this book. It's absolutely gorgeous! I already have many hundreds of hours into the game on various platforms, but wanted the book as a keepsake because it's so beautiful. As for being up front about gaming, it's more acceptable these days, I think. My husband laughed when I told him I didn't even consider myself a gamer for the longest time, though I really have been since forever 😜 2y

I just read this entire thing in bed tonight, while trying not to wake hubby with my "damn, that thing is bright as the sun!" book light. It was a fast read, but not really my thing. There are many good aspects of our culture being more accepting of "neurodiversity", but as the mom of special needs kids, one with autism, I'm going to have a very unpopular opinion here. Books like this piss me off. I guess more specifically they make me sad, and feel like I'm not seen. My kid's autism isn't good, or cute, or fun. Talking about Daryl Hannah or Jerry Seinfeld being autistic...really? (Continued in comments...)

LittlePixels In my world, being autistic doesn't look like a successful actor, or even someone who can ever live independently. It looks like screaming fits, speech difficulties, sign language, anxiety, aggressive outbursts against family members...did I mention the screaming? So much screaming. It isn't charming, and it isn't good for siblings to have to deal with. Yes, there are good moments, and yes we all love each other. 3y
LittlePixels But whitewashing the negative aspects invalidates those of us who deal with the downside of autism on a daily basis. :( (edited) 3y
