In this world, people still die randomly, but they get a call from Death-Case knowing it's their last day. There's also a Last-Friends app, the soon-to-be dead can use to connect with either another soon-to-be-dead (called a Decker) or someone who befriends people on their last day. Mateo and Rufus are both Deckers who agree to spend their final day together. An interesting premise for a novel, it makes one think what it really means to live.

This was my #bookclub‘s latest book and also the first thing I finished for #bfcr2. It‘s a story about two boys who connect on an app called Last Friend after finding out that they‘ll die by the end of the day. To my surprise, I really liked this book for the most part. I thought the characters were well-developed and had great chemistry. Unfortunately, I don‘t think the author stuck the climax or the landing.

twohectobooks For me, the whole thing just fizzled out after the two boys finally kiss. It‘s like a switch suddenly flips and the whole book just turns into them speaking superlatives at one another. The scene where Rufus goes to see Mateo‘s father in the hospital was pretty nice. But overall, I think this book may have been better off with an ambiguous ending where the reader never actually finds out how the boys die. 2mo

I was in the mood for something different so I went for this. And different is exactly what I‘m getting. This is an interesting book so far. The concept on its own had me really intrigued but I‘m finding this characters to be really intriguing as well.

Did I read the same book as everyone else? This was borderline torture. The writing was enjoyable but the story didn't make sense. There was a beginning, an end and a bunch of stuff in between that felt like filler fluff. I had DNFed this book in the past but recently bought a used copy because it was a pick for a book club. I don't often try to read a book I've DNFed because I usually regret trying again, as is the case with this mess of pages.

Did you guys read this?
I hate YA contemporary books ( this is written in an alternative reality of some sort, but I'm calling it contemporary) but I actually really liked this one.

I had to start it three times since I couldn't get into in it, but I guess third time is the charm.
+ I am on a seven hour bus ride I had to do something.

It's really cute and sad.
I really did not expect it to be like this.
I had to read the last line twice. 😢

Bookworm04 Just reserved this on borrow box 4mo

BooksAndTea97 @Bookworm04 it does take a bit of time to get into the story since it progresses slowly. But I really like how the book was written. 😁 4mo

BooksAndTea97 @Bookworm04 honestly I would read a few chapters/or non spoilery reviews before buying it. It has a multiple POV and a different way of narrating the story that some people might not like it. I hate spending money on books I don't end up liking 😂 4mo
BooksAndTea97 @Bookworm04 but I'm keeping my fingers crossed you end up loving it 😁 4mo

I'd heard a lot about this book before I picked it up. I do think it meets expectations for a YA novel.
I like the way the characters develop. The title does warn you though - it's bittersweet.

So my brother from another mother recommended this book to me last year and I‘m finally cracking the seal (I‘ve had it since last year) the first page had me at hello but page 6 has me realizing there will be no sleep for me tonight. Thank goodness I‘m on spring break!!! I‘m no where near the end but I already have a feeling this book will have me in tears.

Two teens receive the Death Cast alert letting them know they have reached their End Day. This book tells how they lived it. I wanted to like this book more, and kept waiting for the emotional punch, but it just never happened for me. I give this book 3/5 ?. It was slightly more than "meh".

Tonight I finished my 67 episode re-watch of Game of Thrones with 81 minutes to spare before the new season started. Now I can finally move on with my life and get back to reading!
First up is finishing the last 30% of They Both Die at the End. Second is My Sister the Serial Killer because it came in from the library. And third will be Children of Blood and Bone for RL book club. While I love Game of Thrones, I've missed my Kindle!

This book, you guys. Mateo and Rufus have both received the Death-Cast call telling them they have one day left to live. They are teenagers, and obviously don‘t want to die, but no one cheats death. This book is amazing and heartbreaking and a wonderful reminder of how precious and finite life is.

Meh. Not really my kind of book. I know the point of the book was not really to know how or why people know in advanced that they will die. It‘s more about the two main characters and how their fates have brought them together and the friendship they build on their last day, but I‘m a much more literal reader and want answers. I think I‘m not deep enough for these kinds of books 😂

Ingerella I just finished this book and felt the same way. 4mo

I usually read this book at night when laying in bed since it's on my kindle app. That way I dont disturb my husband's sleep.

I'm waiting for a book to come in the mail so I can kick off the series I want to start reading so I guess I'll just read this one more than just at night to keep me distracted from the excitement of getting the book I need!

A devastating and crucial story of life and love, this book was un-put-downable. Mateo and Rufus, upon hearing that they are supposed to die on the same day, spend that final day together, learning and loving and living so much in their final hours. This book offers so many lessons to readers, and reminds us all to live each day to the fullest.

This definitely was not what I thought it was going to be, but really interesting nonetheless. What would you do if you found out today that you would die tomorrow? Such an interesting concept, but even more in this because they make a business out of the act of telling people they will die the next way. It brings up so many thoughts and ideas while reading and after.

In the future, DeathCast tells you when you‘re going to die. Mateo gets the call shortly after midnight that this is his last day. He meets a friend that also is dying that day and together the story they share is so unique. Not your typical “teen” book. It made me question how I‘m living, how I feel about dying, and what I would do in Mateo‘s situation! 5/5.

Imagine you get a call at midnight telling you you had less than 24 hrs to live- 24 hrs to make the memories of a lifetime, to right your wrongs, to say goodbye. That‘s what happens when Death-Cast calls- they inform you that today will be your Last Day. This is a story of strangers that become Last Friends, and the adventures they lived together on their End Day. Full of tenderness and humor, this truly was a story about living life.
