My first read of 2026.
I liked this, but found it a little depressing knowing the games would still be going on when Hamitch was a grown man. Very hopeless. Well written hopelessness though.

Wow! I loved learning Haymitch‘s story. It was powerful and really brought a lot to the series. Heartbreaking but highly recommended. Great on #audio , I had to finish in 3 days to return and it was so good ghat it was easy to do. Encouraged me to get most of the Christmas decorations down while I listened.

I get why everyone loves this book.
The fast‑paced, dark dystopian saga continues. Rebellion pits against oppression - the exact reason why I loved the original story.
The emotional intensity, bleak atmosphere, and high‑stakes drama kept me engaged and I finished this in two sittings.
In short:
Hamish's redemption and a true testament that Snow really doesn't have a heart.

March‘s favorite was Sunrise on the Reaping. This made for an incredible edition to the series, and I will read whatever this woman wants to teach us about the dangers of government.

For April, the tagged is an easy pick. I really liked a couple of other books, but I loved this prequel. Even though we know the ending, I still got swept up in all the emotions of the story. #12booksof2025 @TheEllieMo

If this one hadn‘t been head to head against the Women, it may have lasted longer on my grid! So so good! @TheEllieMo

March favorite. So good! #12booksof2025
I can‘t believe I finished it! Maybe my super-slump is over. I really enjoyed Sunrise on the Reaping. It was so heartbreaking. As always, when reading a Hunger Games book. 5/5⭐️

How does she think this stuff up? The cruelty. But the recurring family storylines are fascinating and of course a story about Haymitch brings Woody Harrelson‘s great character to mind. I should read these all back to back again. Great storytelling!

Poor Haymich, what a roller coaster of a book

Haymitch really deserved so much better.
I know he's not a real person, but my heart really does feel sad.
It did take me a couple months to finish this, it started pretty slow, but it picked up.
Suzanne Collins really got me this time. 😭

I knew I would have to be in the right headspace to read this story and man I wasn‘t wrong. It‘s gut wrenching. Once again we are not to look away from the horrors of the capital. To the horrors inflicted upon the people of the districts. Collins once again does not disappoint with this story in the saga 💜📚

I had a fun time reading this. It was interesting and I finished it in one day. Yes it seemed a little more wooden than Katniss‘ story. I couldn‘t get behind Lenore as a character. And I really hated all the songs they kept quoting. They would quote the same song over and over. That seemed very unnecessary. But even with all that, I enjoyed the book and found it entertaining.

Before I read this & the previous one (TBOSAS), I wasn't sure we needed additional books about Snow & Haymitch. Have to say, I was completely wrong as yes, yes we did. Snow's villain origin story was interesting enough but this one about Haymitch Abernathy was just about perfect. It was also good to see Plutarch, Mags, Wiress, & Effie Trinket in their earlier roles.

Something to look forward to next year - the next Hunger Games movie.

This was the quickest I finished a book in a long time. Life keeps getting in the way of reading. Time off from work and a short vacation allowed me to get back to it.
I enjoyed Haymitch's back story. It was a fast paced read as most of the hunger games novels have been.

God this book was So Good. I love how Collins always writes with something to say. I laughed, I cried, I watched the tragedy unfold on the edge of my seat even though I knew how it would end.

I'm a little sad. It was odd and yet nice to see some familiar faces and names and while I enjoyed the book overall don't get me wrong, it starts on his birthday no less, to read about him getting reaped and then the ride to the Capitol and you know the general story because it's just like Katniss' in the sense that it's the same formula.
But I'm saddened because a lot more could have been explored and in a different way.

I just started this book and I already love it. As always, Suzanne Collins brings wonderful worlds to life helping the reader understand better the other stories. I love how it‘s all connected to the other books. I think everybody should read this book because it‘s really an adventure. When I finish it. I‘ll write a review so that you know what you‘re going to read.❤️

That was brutal. I knew it was going to be rough. But that was a heavy one.

Ampert the Squirrel
I added a flamingo can you guess it's name? and than another squirrel named Beetee since I took the photo

I completed the quarterly bingo challenge from the Uncorked Librarian.

I loved this installment of the hunger games. I read it in a couple of days. Also to learn the back story of Haymitch. It was also incredibly sad, but understandable after what we saw in the 1st book.
I liked how it tied together future and past books and gave insight into future relationships in Catching Fire. I think I might of enjoyed this book the most. Definitely a worthy read if you‘re a Hunger Games fan.

This book was wonderful! I love the depth of character brought to Haymitch. While it‘s very sad, you see the hope at the end-knowing how it all ends. Fantastic book-my favorite since catching fire.
It was a quick read. I cried ugly tears reading this book yet i loved it at the same time. 100% pick

Books 105-110 of the year.

The second in the trilogy of prequels, this tells of Haymitch and why he is the way he is. I continue to enjoy this series.

"Happy birthday, Haymitch!"

I‘ve been waiting to get this one for some reason.
i am never rereading this again. everything hurts. i want to throw up. i hate squirrels. to anyone who tried defending snow, i hope you never recover from this story. (and to anyone who keeps saying squid game is peak, consider reading the hunger games. and if you refuse to use your brain, watch the movies at very least.)

I listened to this one and though it was terribly sad, I appreciated Haymitch‘s story. I want to read Snow‘s story now. I wasn‘t all that interested in it when it was first published but my curiosity has piqued after reading this one. I‘ll have to check in with my 6th grade neighbor who is currently reading this.

I could not be more thrilled to read this month's #BookSpin and #DoubleSpin books! I'll likely start listening to the audiobook of The Woman Who Died A Lot while I'm packing today😁

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 5/5 I was balling my eyes out throughout this book! Can‘t wait for the movie next year💜I think I‘ll have to bring tissues ❤️🩹 I love Haymitch
