Not my favorite Ware novel although the ending is good. Hannah meets Alice, at Oxford & they become best friends. Alice is rich, confident, beautiful, & somewhat of a narcissistic sociopath. I don't get the attraction of "the it girl." Then Alice gets killed & years later Hannah is still trying to piece together what happened.

This one was honestly so disappointing for me. I had such high hopes. It took me FOREVER to get hooked on the story (like until the last 100 pages), but then I stayed up late to finish because I couldn‘t put it down. I did not connect with the characters and kept wondering why there was so much premonition of what was to come instead of anything actually happening ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Well, I didn‘t see it coming. And I had 17 long hours to try to figure it out 😆
I enjoyed the ending, but had trouble getting into it at the beginning/middle. Too much padding and could have used some editing. Other than that, I was entertained with this campus murder mystery. More dark academia.
Pregnant Hannah is still consumed by the death of her college roommate April, who Hannah found murdered in their room 10 years ago. Suspects abound.

Ruth Ware falls into my list of authors where I only compare her latest book to my previous reads of her. This is what I expected … slow moving as Hannah breaks open and follows the clues to discover what/why/who/how of her roommates death 10 yrs prior. Sometimes I wanted it to move faster, but those answers not coming quickly is what makes this work.

3.75 ⭐

10 years ago, Hannah found April's body in their apartment at Oxford University. A man is convicted than dies at prison. The news makes Hannah wonder if what she remembered from that night, was all true. Was she missing something? Did she sent an innocent man in prison while the murderer is still free?
6 friends.
All with secrets.
Each had a motive.
A thriller you want be able to put down.

This was a solid, quickly moving story. I‘ve enjoyed Ruth Ware‘s other novels and always find them entertaining if not hard to figure out. I will say that I didn‘t figure this one out, which I love. The main character, Hannah, was a little aggravating at times and made some really stupid decisions but I wouldn‘t say it was enough to make me dislike the story as a whole. Still a big Ruth aware fan! 🌟🌟🌟🌟 #doublebookspin #bookspinbingo

ChaoticMissAdventures Ruth Ware is an auto buy for me, even if I figure out the mystery I still have a great time with her! 2w

I thought this got a little convoluted for me. It took a long time getting where it was going and the big questions weren't even answered at the end... I didn't care for it as much as I wanted to. I'd love to see what everyone else thinks and I like some of Ware's novels so I'm saying so-so.

This was not my favorite book by Ware; however, it was still a good mystery. I figured out the killer, but not the motive. I liked the dual timeline, but the pacing was a little slow. Sometimes Hannah exasperated me. 3.5 stars.

My $15.00 mistake! I just synced my Kindle for the first time in weeks and I‘m seeing that my forgotten preorder of “The It Girl” had downloaded. I already read my BOTM copy weeks ago. The return window is closed so I‘m screwed. I think I‘d better stop preordering books months in advance. Anybody ever do this? 🤦🏾‍♀️

7-23-22: My 71st finished book of 2022! For the last 10 years, Hannah Jones, has been trying to forget her life at Oxford especially the murder of her best friend, April. Told before and after, we learn of events leading up to the fateful day and the aftermath a decade later when Hannah starts to second guess herself. Plot twists were great! Characters were interesting. Thoroughly enjoyed. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️📖#️⃣7️⃣1️⃣

3.25 stars- The narrator was amazing, and overall the story was good. But I knew who the killer was very early on. I didn't know how or the why, but I knew it. So I did like finding out the how and why, plus I thought the MC being pregnant at the time of the time when the story starts to be interesting, added an extra element. But overall just meh.

This dark academic mystery had real flare. I was happily thrown off by twists in the plot. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good mystery with well fleshed out characters. The victim was captiving. Ruth Ware does not disappoint!

At 33% and Nevil just seems weird and like Hannah doesn't understand people with a potential developmental or personality issues or potentially ASD. I don't think he's super creepy?

I like Ruth Ware and some of her books. This was not one of them. Three quarters of the book is the MC, Hannah Jones‘ anguish that her testimony sent the wrong man to prison for the murder of her roommate. Repetitious to the point that I wanted to say move along already. I also didn‘t think there was much mystery. Read it and tell me I was way off base. I‘ll accept the criticism. Off to find my next read. Happy reading Littens !

BookLineNSinker I totally agree with you!! I was starting to second guess myself because of all the reviews from people who loved it but it was too much for me. It was a lot of storylines and things that didn't make sense to me.. I am going to try The Lying Game and see if I like that. 2w
LKK526 @BookLineNSinker I just saw the head of Amazon books and she said her pick for thriller this summer is Things We Do In The Dark. I am going to give it a look. The book I am in the middle of is Can‘t Look Away and I think I am going to have to rate it so-so. I hate to do this because I‘ve had a run of mediocre books but I have to be honest even tho it might turn off some littens. Try Mouth to Mouth. Loved it. 2w
LKK526 @BookLineNSinker just realized The Lying Game is on my TBR stack! 📚 2w
LKK526 @BookLineNSinker I have been pretty off the mark lately and I worry I‘ll be looked at like a negative Nancy but I can‘t lie. Right now I am reading Megan Miranda‘s the Last To Vanish and again it‘s so-so. I wanted to like it! I am going to finish but it‘s a struggle. Stick by your principles and you‘ll be surprised at how many agree with you. Can‘t Look Away is mediocre! 4d

So so sooooooo fun. Some plot holes. And I got a little frustrated with the MC at times. But twisty and kept me constantly guessing and who can resist a thriller set at Oxford?!

Hooked_on_books I‘m just over halfway through. It‘s a lot of fun! 3w
vivastory I have to admit, I didn't care for the one Ruth Ware that I read but it sounds like this is partially based on a really creepy urban legend and that has me a bit intrigued 3w

The protagonist in this story frustrated me so much. None of the characters were especially endearing honestly, even in their best of times.

This one didn't work for me as her others did. I loved the setting, but it had too many half twists to keep me invested in the story.

This may have replaced “The Turn of the Key” as my favorite Ruth Ware book! I am really loving this dark academia trend and Ms. Ware does not disappoint. Although it‘s a slow burn I found myself not really caring because the story is solid. The dual time lines are so interesting and I was completely immersed in the Oxford culture. She really stumped me when it came to the identity of the murderer. However, the motive totally makes sense.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is another fun thriller from this author. Having read many of Ware's previous books I had thought of the ending early on...but then followed her down the other numerous rabbit holes she led me on. This book is not going to win any awards for literature, but that is not why I read it. It was entertaining and a wonderful bit of escapism. I gave it 4/5 stars.

April Clark-Clivedon and Hannah Jones were roommates at Oxford. But by the end of the year, April was dead. The Oxford porter, John Neville, killed her. Ten years later, Hannah and Will are married and expecting a child. John Neville has died in prison. A young journalist has brought forth new evidence that John Neville may be innocent. Is one of her friends guilty of murder?

EadieB I really enjoyed this book. The characters were so life-like and the plot was fast-paced. There were plenty of twists and lots of red herrings. By the end of the book, I had changed my mind three times. Ruth Ware is surely clever and the book is unputdownable. I would like to thank NetGalley and Galley/Scout Press for a copy for an honest review. 3mo

Thanks Edelweiss for the ARC.
Honestly I love Ruth Ware. There is something about her books that just sucks me in. I started this yesterday & thought 370ish pages is too long for one of her novels, and today I was going to read 100 pgs & think about it critically but I read it all and was completely absorbed. Very glad my other half is out of town! I was not disappointed by this even if some turns were a bit outlandish. Expected out July 2022.

I adore Ware‘s books and this was no exception! Hannah and April become roommates and fast friends at college until tragedy strikes. Years later newly pregnant Hannah and husband Will are excited about the future but Hannah has doubts about the past. Just go into it blind and enjoy being tossed and turned by Ware‘s twisty plot!
Thanks to #NetGalley for this ARC! Out July 12
