I haven‘t read a graphic novel since high school- loved it!
I‘m so glad The Handmaid‘s Tale was on @LapReader ‘s #NewYearWhoDis list! I‘d always thought I‘d read it in college, but if I had, I‘m sure I‘d have remembered details. Offred‘s story isn‘t easily forgotten.
This story was important when written and remains so. I‘m excited to read The Testaments.
FINALLY read The Handmaid's Tale! 🎉🎉🎉
The moment of betrayal is the worst, the moment when you know beyond any doubt that you‘ve been betrayed: that some other human being has wished you that much evil. It was like being in an elevator cut loose at the top. Falling, falling and not knowing when you will hit.
📚#NewYearWhoDis: Finish tagged book, continue ATGIB (also for #ATreeGrowsinBrooklynBuddyRead)

Revisiting this old gem. It's so different reflecting on it now versus when I first read it in high school.
Day 3: Book You Did Not Finish.
I started this before the series of #TheHandmaidsTale came out and I could not get past 50 pages or so. I bought a special edition book and I felt that could have been a reason why because I didn‘t want to ruin the cover or pages by reading it.
So right after #TheTestaments came out I made sure to have it read but on my #kindle. Absolutely loved it then! 💕 can‘t say the same for The Testaments though 😳🤷🏻♀️
Edie and some “required” reading - Handmaid for book club next week and Believers is my #LMPBC for December that I‘m just so behind on 😬 I‘m hoping for things to chill and my reading to get back on track(ish) soon but I‘m not holding my breath yet. #catsoflitsy
First book of 2020!! 😎📚 I had forgotten how dark and SINISTER this is! Somehow the pics of all the Handmaid‘s lined up in a row etc. Among other startling illustrations, really brought home how much was taken from them. Some scenes from the TV show were used as well. I enjoy the occasional graphic novel and paired with Atwood‘s classic story this one was a WIN! 😃

They touch with their eyes instead and I move my hips a little, feeling the full red skirt sway around me. It‘s like thumbing your nose from behind a fence or teasing a dog with a bone held out of reach, and I‘m ashamed of myself for doing it, because none of this is the fault of these men, they‘re too young. Then I find I‘m not ashamed after all. I enjoy the power; power of a dog bone, passive but there.
Wow, I have no idea why I didn‘t read this sooner. Thanks @Kdgordon88 for the #jolabokaflodswap! @MaleficentBookDragon
I get why everyone was so excited for the sequel to come out. The writing itself was interesting and I really liked the way the historical piece tied everything together. It is a bit unsettling considering the current climate, though. Now I‘m going to have to read The Testaments! #tbr #wintergames #elfies @Bookwormjillk
My son got me the graphic novel of The Handmaid‘s Tale for Christmas. I liked it more than I thought I would. It‘s necessarily shorter, but the gist of the story is there, and I liked the art. I went walking in Fairhope and Dauphin Island today. Since we had to drive to get both places, my husband and I also finished Whispers Under Ground; I liked it the second time around too.
Here are my potential reads for #NewYearWhoDis, courtesy of @LapReader!
I haven‘t read the tagged book since college, so I think I‘m well overdue for a reread! I‘m also going to stack The Museum of Modern Love on my #januarytbr for sure!
Time to place those library holds. 2020, I‘m ready! 📚🙌🏻
Loveeed this book. It resembles 1984 from a lady's point of view, and Atwood composes it wonderfully. I've perused it around multiple times despite everything I love it. Bought my copy here: https://www.booktopia.com.au/the-handmaid-s-tale-margaret-atwood/book/9780099740...
#DearDecember Day 10: I found the graphic novel adaptation of The Handmaid‘s Te to be eerie, #chilling, striking, and effective. It has allowed me to experience the story again in a more visually affecting way, amplifying my horror and indignation. I also shared my teenage daughter‘s views here: https://wp.me/pDlzr-kt1
Ornaments you wish were life size. #OrnamentHunt Maybe this is cheating because I saw it when I was Christmas shopping but I had to stop and take a picture because the first thing I thought about was June and Commander Waterford‘s scrabble games 😆 #WinterGames #TheFilthyAnimals
I‘m so glad I finally read/ listened to this. Ever since I started watching the series, I wanted to read this book.
The commander sums it up when he says something like: Progress is never progress for everyone.
This story shows that. I enjoyed listening to Elisabeth Moss tell the story
So last night the branch of my pub library discussed THT. I was well prepared because since August I binged-watched all 3 seasons of the series, read the graphic novel, and then read the original just in time to read The Testaments along with the audiobook. My lib made this Claire Daines reading available to me. I had to go there. It‘s been years since I‘ve listened to an audiobook via CD and surround sound rather than phone. It was great!
An excellent way to reread a beloved modern classic and a cozy way to spend the afternoon on the first snow day of the season. This was perfect way to re-familiarize myself with the story before reading The Testaments. The artwork is spectacular! The graphic novel is not to be missed. In fact, if you loved The Handmaid's Tale, but have never read a graphic novel, I suggest starting with this one.
Disclaimer : I'm starting out as a big fan of the original Handmaid's Tale. I was curious to see how it would translate to an illustrated title. Pretty well I would say. People who have had trouble reading this story (and it is a difficult story) may want to try this version. It softens some things and heightens others but overall stays true to the original story. The drawings are amazing and the color red plays a staring role. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I don't have a lot of time for reading this weekend, so I'm not officially joining in on #24B4Monday #MrBook1inaMillion, but I thought I would see how far I could get in these three graphic novels before they are due back at the library next week. #readingonadeadline.
Congrats to @MrBook for reaching such an epic milestone!
