Freedom in Congo Square | Carole Boston Weatherford

This would be a good read for when a class is discussing the Civil War and/or slavery. The book keeps in a positive light in that Sundays were free for slaves.

Pickpick

Freedom in Congo Square written by Carole Boston Weatherford. Caldecott Honor Book. This book follows the weekly schedule by day of a slave and what work they were forced to do. However, on Sunday afternoons, slaves were able to spend half the day in Congo Square and feel free.

1. I ❤️❤️❤️ the tagged book but there was an author who plagiarized it word for word. I don‘t remember the book‘s title but it is THAT book that made me wicked mad
2. Nothing beats MASH, a childhood fave; nowadays the Grand Tour specials (on Amazon Prime) introduced to me by my son
3. Boiled eggs, toast, tea

I think using story telling as a way to remember history is so important. It doesn‘t feel like memorizing facts about the past, it‘s much more personal than that. And it makes you remember it better.
