Starbucks has a new colorful frappachino and I'm kind of all about it! 😁

Stacy_31 What would you say the flavor is like? I‘ve looked online and all I can find is a “fruity” flavor. 2d
Branwen @Stacy_31 Honestly? It kind of tastes like a banana laffy taffy! So definately fruity, but in a candy sort of way! 🍬 I really liked it! 2d
Stacy_31 Interesting. I was kind of hoping it was mango, like the unicorn one a couple years ago. 2d

Branwen @Stacy_31 I remember that one! 🦄 Yeah...this new one leans more towards candy than fruit I'm afraid! 2d
Stacy_31 Thanks for letting me know! 😁😁 2d

I got 100 followers! I haven‘t been popular anywhere so this made me smile.
Now the book! As someone who studies myths and loves Percy Jackson, I found it entertaining. This book, which encompasses many genres, is about an impending war between old gods (like Odin) and new gods (like the Media). The main character, Shadow, is a man thrown into the mix, and he‘s a lot more easygoing in this book than I would be. ~Everything is not what it seems.~

This is my first week check in!

Planning on finishing up my first book tonight if work is a bit slow on the overnight (or tomorrow when I have the night free). And I hit my fitness goal and I‘ve done 2 hours of yoga this week.

Okay, took me a bit to actually post this, but I‘ve been working on my goals for my fitness challenge!

My reading goals are to read 3 to 4 books and to work out 2 hours a week. I‘m hopeful to finish my goals although I know I‘ll be distracted for a couple weeks while I‘m abroad in Italy.

And I wish everyone luck on their goals!

I decided quite awhile ago that, though I love Neil Gaiman as a person, his books aren‘t my thing. So why did 8 have a burning need al of sudden to re-read American Gods? It was like a serious food craving.

ravenlee I didn‘t much care for this one when it first came out, but for years now I‘ve been really wanting to read it again. But this time I won‘t pay sticker price! 1mo
Patchshank I think even if you don't like Neil Gaiman, there is a certain appreciation for Neverwhere and American Gods. It's just what I've observed. I'm a Neil Gaiman fan and like almost everything he's done. Stardust has been the only thing I haven't really liked. 1mo
Karisa It's one of my all time favorites. I love the concept and all the nods to mythology. One of the few books I have read more than once (normally a one and done type of reader). 1mo

Amiable My husband loved this book. I‘ve been thinking about picking it up. 1mo
Zelma @ravenlee so strange how we are drawn to books like food cravings. It‘s unexplainable. 😆 1mo
Zelma @Patchshank @Karisa I remember liking it when I last read it but not loving it. However, I devoured the first season of the tv show and it made me want to revisit. For being 10 years since I last read it, it feels very familiar. 1mo
Zelma @Amiable no time like the present! 😄 1mo

Okay..

So I‘ve decided to put this book on hold (once again)

It‘s not that it isn‘t well written, because it is, but I‘m just not that gripped 😕

Neil Gaiman is such an incredible author, and I enjoyed his Norse mythology a lot, but I can‘t help feel this novel is a little too slow for a person as busy as me. I will finish it! I just need a break to go over some things and analyse it! I don‘t know, something about it just feels a bit off to me

julesG The only Gaiman I haven't finished (yet). It's slow and different from other Gaiman stories. 2mo
NeedsMoreBooks I totally understand your view. I have been reading and putting this on hold for the past 2 years 🤦🏻‍♀️ 2mo
Sweettartlaura I liked it... but found the ending anticlimactic 🤷🏻‍♀️. I still recommend it as a Gaiman pick. But you‘re not alone in your reticence with this one. 2mo
See All 9 Comments
Smoky_Embers @NeedsMoreBooks it‘s driving med crazy! Like it‘s not a bad book! Just something‘s off about it and I keep putting it it down 🤣 2mo
Smoky_Embers @julesG I agree! 2mo
Smoky_Embers @Sweettartlaura Being a popular book, I was worried I‘d raise a few eyebrows with my review! I just can‘t seem to get hooked or excited for it unfortunately. I didn‘t enjoy the series either (which in my opinion, was awful). 2mo
BethM I feel the same! Loved Norse Mythology- should love this one as I‘m into the concept. But I just can‘t get into it, I‘ve tried numerous times. 2mo
Smoky_Embers @BethM glad I‘m not alone! Norse mythology was really good, I had such high hopes for this one 😭 2mo

I got lucky today. So lucky! 🍀 I found the final book of this set at a flea market. I had bought Black Dog and The Monarch of the Glen new, then found Anasi Boys used. Today I found the matching American Gods. 😊 After spending all week cleaning up tornado and flood damage, this was a happy reprieve. 💕

GingerAntics Do The Monarch of the Glen and Black Dog go with American Gods the same way Anasi Bous does, or are those separate Gaiman stories? I‘ll read them either way, honestly, I‘m just curious. I‘d love to spend more time in different parts of the American Gods world. (edited) 2mo
wanderinglynn That‘s awesome! 2mo
Ericalambbrown @GingerAntics Yep! They are short stories in the same universe. They both feature Shadow Moon. Monarch was in Fragile Things originally and Black Dog was in Trigger Warning. These are stand alone illustrated versions of the stories. 🥰 2mo

I'm not sure how many times I've read this. 6? 7? But it's been a while and after a disappointing re-read experience with Neverwhere I was a little worried. But it's still brilliant. Fun, clever, exciting and full of myth and mystery. I probably enjoyed it more this time than ever, in no small part due to this stunning Folio Society edition and new food for thought from the TV series. #FolioFreaks

saresmoore I can imagine it would be amazing with the FS edition! Although, perhaps a bit difficult to read in between all the gentle stroking and page sniffing and muttering of, "My precious." 2y
Moray_Reads @saresmoore It's just so pretty! I love Dave McKean's dark, otherworldly illustrations. 2y
