⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I enjoyed this book immensely. Joe intertwined the last few years of his son Beau‘s life with his time as Vice President in this book. I feel like I have been given a glance into the Biden family and am better for it.

4 chapters in to this one so far tonight. I‘ve had it on my shelf for yrs, & hadn‘t been able to bring myself to read it, for all my grief at having lost this vision of America. Until now. I‘m swinging wildly btwn wanting to cry & wanting to throw up w/relief, relieved to have a good, humble, moral man in the nation‘s house once again. Seeing in retrospect—20/20 vision, amirite—that this is his purpose and always has been—to be a healer in chief.

Smrloomis Lovely post ☺️ 3y

While I usually tend to read fantasy, or at least fiction books, getting deeply involved with politics this past year, (and especially now with the election), I‘ve been inspire to read more by these leaders whom I have so greatly come to admire. We live in historic times, there is no denying that. And these three will go down in history as some of yet greats. And so, I wish to embrace their wisdom now.

Well, that was rough.

I do think the momentum faltered several times when he abruptly shifted gears from the family to Ukraine, Iraq, or the Northern Triangle. But I think it helped to reinforce what he was tasked with in his role as VP while simultaneously enduring the most tremendous heartbreak.

mrsmarch I have this on the shelf and I should read it this month. I also have #LMPBC and a book for a leadership course I‘m taking to finish. 4y

This was my #bookgiftedtome for #booked2019 and also an entry for my #readthecandidates challenge. I actually really enjoyed this. Joe Biden shows his humanity in this story of a terribly difficult time in his life with the loss of his son.i see the appeal of Joe Biden when I see this side of him. It was terribly sad at parts but yet ended on a hopeful note. Was on the fence about this one but glad I listened to it.

I liked this book. It was a wonderful tribute to his son, and learning about his thought process to not run for president was interesting. The foreign policy stuff was boring but it was necessary for context and memoir purposes. Beau meant a lot to Delaware (I say that as a long-term resident) and I wish he had touched on that a bit more but that wasn‘t necessarily the point of the book. I wouldn‘t say it‘s required political reading but it‘s good

So glad that I got to finish this! I have always respected and had an affinity for Joe Biden, but this book increased that affinity more so. He has gone through a lot and has always put his family and service to our country first. It made me super sad for our current state of affairs after reading the details of his Vice Presidency. His voice really comes through and I‘m grateful to still have that voice in our world.

I started this earlier this year and then my library hold expired before I could finish it. I had to go back on the wait list. It just *finally* came back to me! It‘s so lovely to hear about an administration that actually was concerned about foreign policy and service of country rather than self service 😭 I also love hearing Joe Biden‘s “voice” speak lovingly about his son. ❤️🙏

Reading this book, which chronicles the year his son died, made me admire Joe Biden more. It was of course very sad in many parts, but it's also inspiring in the way he and his family coped. It could be jarring to go from the family story to the world issues he was handling as vice president but I imagine it was for him too. There are also a lot of insights into his decision not to run for president and into his relationship with President Obama.

This memoir is a deep dive into heartache, family, and politics. Strange bedfellows, to be sure. But Joe Biden has a fierce dedication to family and country. For every chapter about the rigors of the Vice Presidency (Joe logged a million air miles in eight years), there are two about his son Beau‘s battle with cancer. Their family pulls together beside each other for the battle of a lifetime. Tissues needed.

Joe Biden's memoir of the year his son Beau lost his battle with brain cancer. During this time VP Biden was working on multiple foreign affairs issues and trying to decide if he would run for President. I shed many tears while reading this book, but skimmed through large sections. Some of it seemed egotistical, which is not at all my general opinion of the former VP. I'm giving it a pick because it had to be tough to write and deserves a read.
