Sorcery of Thorns
Sorcery of Thorns | Margaret Rogerson
From the New York Times bestselling author of An Enchantment of Ravens comes an imaginative fantasy about an apprentice at a magical library who must battle a powerful sorcerer to save her kingdom. All sorcerers are evil. Elisabeth has known that as long as she has known anything. Raised as a foundling in one of Austermeers Great Libraries, Elisabeth has grown up among the tools of sorcerymagical grimoires that whisper on shelves and rattle beneath iron chains. If provoked, they transform into grotesque monsters of ink and leather. She hopes to become a warden, charged with protecting the kingdom from their power. Then an act of sabotage releases the librarys most dangerous grimoire. Elisabeths desperate intervention implicates her in the crime, and she is torn from her home to face justice in the capital. With no one to turn to but her sworn enemy, the sorcerer Nathaniel Thorn, and his mysterious demonic servant, she finds herself entangled in a centuries-old conspiracy. Not only could the Great Libraries go up in flames, but the world along with them. As her alliance with Nathaniel grows stronger, Elisabeth starts to question everything shes been taughtabout sorcerers, about the libraries she loves, even about herself. For Elisabeth has a power she has never guessed, and a future she could never have imagined.

Oh my goodness, I absolutely LOVED this book!! It had me hooked from the beginning and I was completely wrapped in the spell of the characters. I highly recommend Sorcery of Thorns!!!

“‘I see you‘ve been spending a great deal of time alone with Magister Thorn. Has he declared his intentions?‘

‘I wish he would,‘ Elizabeth said. ‘He hardly makes sense half the time. Knowing his intentions would be helpful.‘

Nathaniel made a choking sound. ‘She doesn‘t mean it that way,‘ he assured everyone, taking Elizabeth‘s arm. ‘She‘s a feral librarian, you see—raised by booklice, very tragic...‘”

THIS BOOK. I don‘t have the words to describe how much I loved Sorcery of Thorns. I stayed up way too late to finish it (hello #baddecisionsbookclub) and all I want to do is start it again from the beginning. I‘ve been impatiently awaiting this book from the moment I finished An Enchantment of Ravens, and it surpassed all my expectations. Now I‘m suffering from a hell of a book hangover, and I wouldn‘t have it any other way.

I‘m picky with my books about libraries and librarians, but this one held up to my high expectations. Great fantasy adventure full of magic, demons, plotting and books, and the romance plot line is sweet but stays secondary. (Didn‘t hurt that Nathaniel reminds me of heroes like wizard Howl and Numair Salmalin.) Some of the world building could have been stronger, but all in all this is exactly what I want from #YA #fantasy.

4.5/5 🌟

A bewitching story that will bring you on an amazing quest to save the world. The characters were great and there was a lot of funny moments. The story was unique in it's on way. The romance was sweet and it wasn't the main focus of the book.
If you love sorcery, romance and characters on a quest to save the world, then this book is for you.

This was amazing from start to finish! It brings books to life in a new way that you can immediately connect to and fall in love with this incredible world Rogerson created and her characters were so well written as well. I felt and immediate connection to Elisabeth and how she loves and respects books and libraries. And not to mention there are warrior librarians in this one! 5/5🌟

While I enjoyed the dynamics between Elizabeth, Nathaniel, and Silas, Nathaniel‘s epic sass, and the romantic elements of the story, that was about all that I enjoyed in Sorcery of Thorns, and it just didn‘t add up to a consistently enjoyable or meaningful read for me. I felt like it should have ended several times before the end.

Need to catch up on some reviews. I finished this about a week ago. Took awhile to finish because I went days without reading. But I really loved this book. Magical, great libraries. Books that can talk to some. Books that can turn into grimoires that will walk off and cause great disasters if not stopped. Sorcerers. What's not to love?

Okay, I'm kinda happy I got peer pressured into reading this one. I just didn't get the hype around An Enchantment of Ravens so I was very hesitant but this is much more my speed. I liked all the characters and the romance. Lots of reveals at the end. Also love books about books and books with librarians.

It's been a few months that I haven't read any fantasy. Thus, it felt good to reading again my fav genre. This book has an amazing storyline and amazing strong willed characters. I loved the concept of magical grimoires and the whole idea of the magical libraries. The writing is perfect and the story line just keeps you glued to the book. A book to not be missed.

There‘s no better photo spot for a book about mystical libraries than in front of the haunted library from Ghostbusters, right?
📚
I love the idea of this book but not the execution. There was too much going on (living books, sorcerers, demons, etc) & FAR too many similes (I made a game for myself to count them on each page). I loved Nathaniel, Silas, and Katrien but unfortunately not the main character. #ya #bookclub #fantasy #teachersoflitsy
