Suggestions!? So this new 2026 book log I bought has a section where you can color code track a stat or theme, I am asking for suggestions on what to track. There are 3 stat trackers, and as I only read about 50-55 books a year, with 384 boxes I need to track something that shows up multiple times in a book. For 1 of the 3, I‘m tracking Inns/Taverns, and event tropes that happen in them. Fights, lovemaking, story reveals, etc. Help with other 2?

shortsarahrose Probably an obvious suggestion, but how about genre? 3d
Bookish_Viking @shortsarahrose genre is one I would do, but since I only read about 50 books a year, it‘d only fill about 50 of the 384 squares. So I‘m trying to think of a stat or trope that happens multiple times in a single book to fill out more of the squares. I‘m considering things like every time characters travel to unique locations, or make unique discoveries, perhaps every time a character makes a plot altering decisions (good, bad, very bad). 3d

When someone asks if you did a thing….”Yes. Yes, I did a thing”…I bought a thing. As if 4 different book tracking apps, one personally custom built 9 year long Excel spreadsheet database and a physical daily page ledger weren‘t enough to satisfy me… I bought this from Novelly Yours, that just arrived today:

BookishMarginalia I got one too! 🙌🏼 6d

My 2026 Book of the Year was always leaning towards Dungeon Crawler Carl. Ever since I discovered that series and binged books 1-6 it quickly became one of my favorite series of all time. Its hilarious, like Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy meets Ready Player One with hints of the Hunger Games and Maze Runner mixed in. Ready for Book 8 and OBH.

I REALLY hope Matt Dinniman shows up to BookCon2026.

I love this book and love the main character‘s sass, boldness and her unfiltered ability to just speak what and when she wants, even if it might be in a moment that it‘d be better if she didn‘t. She uses her inside voice out loud and it‘s great.

Not really book related, and I have literally no idea what this 6 7 thing is about, what it means or what it‘s from. But I thought I‘d add my own 6 7 two-cents from my all time favorite movie: A Knights Tale.

Ugh. When a character…a main character and the best character in a book dies, particularly in book 2 of a trilogy makes the rest of the book and series feel empty, like you don‘t even want to finish it. Not tagging the book as to not give any spoilers…but I don‘t want to finish it despite it being an excellent series.

Progress so far on my 2025 Title challenge. Just finishing Icebound. Don't have any books with a J or a K, so I will have to come back to them later in the year when I hopefully find them. Had Four Ruined Realms on F, but moved it to the Number slot for now. Trying to do it going down the ABCs, with special exceptions on books I really want to read, such as Onyx Storm and Sanctum of the Soul.

Updated Board!
Fractal Noise on the N: Unfortunately not my favorite of Paolini. I love All his books, always fantastic...except this one. The story for me was kind of flat, which is a shame because TSIASOS is Perfection.

House of Flame and Shadow on the H: My review of this gorgeous piece of fantasy is on my previous post, complete perfection and in the top running for my book of the year.

Ho-Ly…WOW!!
I don‘t even know where to start with this book. The sheer awesomeness has no bounds, not enough stars on any review page to give a proper rating.

Where the Maasverse goes from here… I may need to start eating healthier and try exercising.

Got a few slots taken and already a couple repeat letters, since I am reading the Lord of the Rings One-Volume at the moment and a repeat S.

ElizaMarie What are the letters representing? Last name of author? 2y
Bookish_Viking @ElizaMarie the first letter of the book title, not including words like “the”, “an,” “a”, etc. Bonesmith = B, The Scarlet Veil = S. Then the bonus slots, a number in the title, example: Three Dark crowns = number slot. Color in title: Green Mile = Color slot. (edited) 2y
Bookish_Viking I set it up the way I found others on google that people made on like Pintrest and stuff. But all the ones I found wouldn‘t fit on Litsy‘s 1:1 square photo setting. 2y
See All 6 Comments
Bookish_Viking @ElizaMarie but also, you can play it however you‘d choose. If you‘d wanna do by authors last name or anyway you want. I was just offering the board. 2y
ElizaMarie Thank you for your response! I was wondering how you intended to use the board and I definitely want to participate. I might have a good amount completed already. 2y
Bookish_Viking @ElizaMarie That‘d be awesome, and it would help spread the board around since you are far more well known on here than I. Lol 2y

First I need to credit @KatieRose23 for this idea as I first saw this idea on one of her posts. I thought the ABC Challenge was an awesome idea so I googled for templates, but of all that I did find, none of them really fit the 1:1 Square photo requirement for Litsy, so I created my own. Take it, share it, recreate it, do what you want with it if you'd like. Here is the template that I made and I'll add the hashtag:

1)Dirk Pitt - Dirk Pitt Series (Cussler)
2)Harry Dresden - Dresden Files series (Butcher)
3)Avery Grambs - The Inheritance Games (Barnes)
RunnerUp:
Bryce Quinlan - Specifically HOEAB (Maas)

Some characters I picked because they have good investigative skills and WOULD make for good detectives, are clever and do investigations of a sort in their books.

dabbe If they investigate, they're detectives of a sort IMHO. My mother-in-law LOVED Dirk Pitt, and I've never read these! Same for #s 2 and 3; all now on the TBR. Thanks for playing! ❤️💜🩷 2y

I thought I‘d share my Bookroom Inventory Database (BID) after sharing my spreadsheet obsession on the quirks. It‘s a shame you can only post one pic at a time (aside from collages) on here. I have built a color coded spreadsheet that is automated to a Statistics page (shown in post 2 of 3). Every page is accounted for in my bookroom.

1) I am obsessed with spreadsheets. I have entire spreadsheets for random nonsense just because it was fun making them. (Including a 9 year long book inventory spreadsheet system with automation and color codes)
2) I don‘t like creams. (Sour cream, whipped cream, etc) the texture…. ::shudder::
3) I don‘t like paperback books…if I can‘t find a book in hardcover…I won‘t read it until I do.

#TLT #ThreeListThursday @dabbe

dabbe #1: I have a spreadsheet for my books, too. I'd love to see yours! Do you use Excel or Spreadsheets?
#2: Texture in the mouth is EVERYTHING! 🤩
#3: Do you use an e-reader, or do you only use hardbacks? I use both. 😃
2y
Bookish_Viking @dabbe Excel. I‘ll have to share my database, it‘ll be several posts long since you can only post one pic at a time. And I‘m hardcovers only. I started out HC and PB, but now only HC. HC collector. I will do Audiobooks for rereads only. 2y
dabbe @Bookish_Viking I'd hate for you to have to do all of that. Maybe just one pic so I can see what you have on it? I'm kind of dissatisfied with mine. Not enough bells and whistles, maybe. 🤩 2y

Loving this book!!

I did find ONE thing I‘d consider interesting, not necessarily bad. I‘ve found this in many other things too.

Wren seems to come up with the name Iron Revenant on page 303. Then on page 358, the name Iron Revenant is used by two different characters that would have no idea Wren made the name.

One character creates a term that is suddenly widely known and used, despite there being no way it spread that quickly.

The floating and migrating islands of The Phoenix Empire is one of my favorite geographical world settings I‘ve ever come across.
The way they have to chart the movements of the islands to navigate to them, the same way someone would have to chart planetary orbits to travel between them, gives the world itself an air of mystery and personality. Loving this book and series so far.
