One Day in December
One Day in December: the most romantic, feel-good read of 2018 | Josie Silver
Two people. Ten chances. One unforgettable love story. 'The number one feel-good read of Christmas 2018' Dinah Jefferies Laurie is pretty sure love at first sight doesn't exist. After all, life isn't a scene from the movies, is it? But then, through a misted-up bus window one snowy December day, she sees a man who she knows instantly is the one. Their eyes meet, there's a moment of pure magic...and then her bus drives away. Laurie thinks she'll never see the boy from the bus again. But at their Christmas party a year later, her best friend Sarah introduces her to the new love of her life. Who is, of course, the boy from the bus. Determined to let him go, Laurie gets on with her life. But what if fate has other plans? Following Laurie, Sarah and Jack through ten years of love, heartbreak and friendship, One Day in December is a joyous, heart-warming and immensely moving love story that you'll want to escape into forever, for fans of Jojo Moyes, Lucy Diamond and Nicholas Sparks. 'The novelistic equivalent to LOVE ACTUALLY' The Bookseller 'The love story you've been waiting for ... I loved it!' Miranda Dickinson

I wanted to read this book for a long time probably over a year and finally got it out of the library. It was just as good as I was hoping for maybe better. The love story was amazing and the twists and turns along the way were definitely not predictable. Can‘t wait to read the next one by this author!

I‘ve had a tough couple of weeks and the books I was reading just weren‘t holding my attention. So I looked in my kindle back catalogue and picked this because I knew my sister was also reading it.
I wasn‘t sure in the first half whether I was going to like it, I thought Jack was a bit of a nob quite a lot at the start but I found myself becoming invested in all their lives and their ups and downs as we followed them over the years.

⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 3.5 Stars

Not quite a 4 star read, but definitely not a 3 star. This left me wanting more on all accounts. It was nearly perfect in many ways, but was lacking at the same time - especially with not having more with the moments between Jack and Laurie. I felt it dragged just a bit and in turn had me putting the book down more than usual. I wasn‘t invested until halfway. I could see this being perfect as a movie. 🎥

Laurie, through a misted-up bus window one snowy December day, catches a glimpse of a gorgeous stranger. He saw her too but the bus drives away before anything else happens. Love at first sight.
Haven‘t read but it sounds like a lovely rom-com that I‘d happily watch on Hallmark channel. Reese Witherspoon chose it for her December 2018 bookclub. Maybe I‘ll get to it when I‘m in a mood for a contemporary romance read. 😊

This was a quick, fun read that explores the idea of love at first sight. The guy and girl go through quite a bit and prove that although love at first sight can be real, it takes more than that to ultimately be together. The characters were frustrating at times, but overall I enjoyed their journey. #Reesesbookclub #hellosunshine #Readingwomenchallenge2019 -A romance or love story. #romcom #contemporaryromance

This was a fantastic read! I really connected with all of the characters. The plot was believable and the author has an amazing way of making you feel what the characters are feeling every step of the way.

At some points, I was upset over the decisions they made, but they were always authentic to the character's nature and made sense from their perspective. I read this book in one long binge session, and a quick final sprint.

🤭👀 Almost done with this book...recomendable!! ❣️ ‘Tis a love story( that becomes like a hidden love triangle) but also a story of friendship and growth and the many twists and turns of life...I though the concept of “love at first sight” we were introduced at the beginning was a little dramatic but overall I‘ve really come to enjoy Laurie‘s character and I‘m still on the fence about Jack .-.

I wanted to like this more than I did, but the main characters are deeply frustrating and determined to be unhappy for most of the book. I get that romance requires a few obstacles but for 95% of the book, the One True Pairing just moon at one another while leaving a trail of broken hearts in their wake. It got to the point where I didn't want either of them to get a happily ever after with one another or anyone else.

You've been warned! I can't talk about this book without spoilers. I have complicated feelings about this book. Laurie is too good for Jack. But I couldn't help the warm and fuzzies I got at their perfect rom-com ending. I was thoroughly engaged in Laurie's journey, not so much in Jack's and I did really want to see how this book would end. I mean, I knew how it would end, but I was kinda hoping for a not-so-predictible ending.

This one reminded me way too much of One Day. In both, 2 peoples‘ lives continue to cross paths after a memorable encounter. The thing that drives me nuts about the stories is that everyone else ends up being an obstacle for the pair to get together. It makes huge life decisions seem inconsequential & reduces them to being a speed bump in someone else‘s story. Regardless, it‘s very readable and I love the main friendship between Sarah and Laurie.

I know how painful it can be letting someone you think you love go, but I don‘t believe there‘s only one person in the world for each of us. It‘s too fanciful, too limiting. There comes a point where you have to make the choice to be happy, because being sad for too long is exhausting. And one day, you‘ll look back, and you‘ll not be able to remember exactly what it was you loved about that person❄️🚌

This was cute! A star-crossed romance with an extreeemly slow burn (more like a simmer). It kind of feels like you're watching a Bridget Jones-y slash Serendipity slash Love Actually romcom and screaming "come on already!" at the telly (did I mention it's set in the UK? haha). The ending felt way too rushed after all of the build up, but overall still a cute read.

Exceedingly so-so to the point that I now wonder who in publishing watched Love Actually too many times before telling Reese how charming this was, OR how much they got paid. Lord, straight people, I worry about you and your Christmas Romance thing. How is this not a terrible Netflix movie already? (Probably because Reese has a big Apple contract?) Not a pan - it‘s fine for a One Tru Love With Obstacles Book - but sure not a pick.

suzisteffen TO BE FAIR, I read I think 25 f/f Xmas books last December in order to try to balance the scales, but still. 5mo
Weaponxgirl 🤣🤣 this is just the review I needed after a long night Shift! 5mo
Weaponxgirl Tbh I worry about a lot of our straight romance stuff. Did you see about the research that showed women were more accepting of stalking behaviour after watching too many of a certain type of romcom? (Personally clueless will always be my fave romcon, how has Paul Rudd not aged?) 5mo
suzisteffen @Weaponxgirl 😂 I just expected better from a Reese pick! The end is a great scene, very cinematic. This one doesn‘t feature stalking behavior but it‘s just ... no one is very likeable in it, and it‘s loooong. 5mo

This book was my third book on my surgery reading list. Can I just say that I think this book needs to be made into a movie? It‘s so good! The classic love triangle that spans a period of 10 years, the friendships in the book are total friendship goals and it left me wishing there were more “Jacks” in the world. Readers will love this book for many reasons but most of all the characters. This book is definitely one of my December favorites.
