One Day in December | Josie Silver
post image

I recently started reading my second holiday ish themed book. Heard mixed reviews on this, hopefully I‘ll be able to see what the hype is about. 👀

Cleo Wilder is a dating columnist in London who escapes to Sullivan Island, a remote Irish island, for a solo retreat of self-care in order to refresh herself. Mack Sullivan from Boston USA goes to the same island as he needs some time to himself for soul-searching as his marriage is breaking up. A mix-up with the bookings means both have reserved the same one-room hideaway on exactly the same dates.

EadieB They are not happy about having to share the room but as days go by, they start to enjoy each other's company. This is not your typical romance novel. It is a very low-key story of two people needing some positive attention at a bad time in their life. You, the reader, get to witness these two characters fight their feelings and finally come up with a solution of why they should have a holiday relationship. 2y
EadieB Things get to a teary-eyed climax when Mack decides he needs to go back to Boston to spend time with his two sons. This was my first Josie Silver's book but won't be my last. If you like feel-good stories, then you will love this one. Don't forget the tissues. I would like to thank NetGalley and Ballentine Books for a ebook copy for an honest opinion. 2y

I'm actually surprised I didn't spend this entire book sobbing #josiesilver did an incredible job showing grief, redemption and how life continues to move on while posing the interesting question: What if you could visit an alternate reality?

I want to read one of my BOTM picks next but I‘m not sure which one. 🤔 They‘re all so different!

#botm #whatshouldireadnext #fateofthefallen #kelkade #thesundownmotel #simonestjames #thetwolivesoflydiabird #josiesilver #beyondthepoint #clairegibson #botmstack

hes7 LOVED Beyond the Point and The Sun Down Motel. Fate of the Fallen is pretty good, too, but I haven‘t gotten to Lydia Bird yet. 4y
The_Heeler_Booklife Lydia Bird is so good. Definitely recommend. 4y
SunshineandSimiles I think I‘m leaning towards Sun Down because my book club is doing Two Lives in May. 4y

This was a fabulous and complex contemporary romance. It was both satisfying AND considered the realities of "love at first sight." Protagonists Laurie and Jack are compelling in the connections that bring them together and in the all-too-real obstacles that keep them apart, and I appreciated the alternation between their perspectives. Excellent read. (Thanks to Sara for the loan!)⠀
