Mr. Perfect on Paper | Jean Meltzer

I really love this author‘s books, but this one was a miss for me 😔 just didn‘t have the tone that her usual style does

The Gentleman's Gambit | Evie Dunmore

Lost interest and got slightly confused while reading. It seemed to jump around and the plot kind of became an afterthought for me

Jean Meltzer‘s characters are so easy to fall for! Loved reading a book that blended sex positivity and religion. The chronic illness representation was also top notch. Overall a sweet story (pun wasn‘t intended but now it is!)

All Downhill With You | Julie Olivia

I‘m telling myself the only reason I bailed was because it was an audiobook. It was hard to feel the pull for this book, though I‘ll probably try again in the future. Had to bail

Felt the same as Lovelight Farms: difficult to catch on to and connect with. So many people with a lot to follow, and the skipping around plus flashbacks also got confusing

Lowen was another unreliable narrator: why did she intentionally get pregnant with someone she kept saying she couldn‘t be with? Her attachment to him was creepy, + really fueled by the manuscript. She stayed with him + hid the evidence “so it didnt hurt him” but casually ignored that he attempted murder TWICE? Lowen also let Crew lick the knife + any time she was alone with him, something bad happened. Why?? There was so much more going on here

Verity | Colleen Hoover
Pickpick

WTH!!!! I am completely creeped out right now! As someone who usually doesn‘t enjoy Colleen Hoover, I thought she excelled at the suspense and character work here. Verity was a rollercoaster, and you‘ll never really know the truth of what happened. All these characters were SO messed up and made questionable decisions. Also, I believe, an unreliable narrator (details under a spoiler review)

Tbh not my fav. Pointless people & not Christmassy at all! Clueless main character. But their friendship was cute & 🌶️ was ok! Not crazy about it

Set on You | Amy Lea
Panpan

🙄 The main is so self centered and judgy that it made it difficult to enjoy the story. She finds out the big *news* and she immediately gets mad at Scott and kicks him out? For a secret that isn‘t his? It really wasn‘t healthy. They set boundaries and she would be the first to tease that they cross them, and then immediately pull back and say she didn‘t want this and victimize herself. Also just constantly talking bad about others. Not a fan

Was way more into the book when it focused on their fake relationship. Except the spice, which felt forced and awkward. I felt myself bored with the rest of it + really disliking Nina + her friends. So much that it made the story drag on and feel like one massive eye roll. Leo had some nice qualities (I really liked his focus on mental health) but otherwise, his family was my favorite part. Left a lot to be desired. The puns were on point tho!

About half way through so far & I‘m loving the chemistry & dates! However, if these two MF-ers say “I couldn‘t help but wonder what it meant” when the other shows affection ONE MORE TIME 🤬🤬🤬🤬 I‘m gonna call the book cops! How could you be so CLUELESS?! Miscommunication is not cute!!!

Someone Just Like You | Meredith Schorr
Pickpick

🩷🥹 swoooning! Had a few thoughts while reading (too much emphasis on her job, too many fights, oh these two *hate, hate* each other) but I loved them & every decision! It wasn‘t a typical enemies to lovers; there was actually substance + discord. They also didn‘t resolve their decades of arguments in one swoop. It felt real and honest and healthy! The clones were also really funny & cute

It was ok! I blitzed through most of it and had a hard time caring too much. I like how we got a slice of the loop, but how does the whole entire book take place in ONE DAY?! Also, thankful there were so many good people in their lives

🥹🥰 love!! Charlie + Bailey are absolutely perfect! I wish we got more information on Charlie & got to see his side of things deeper than we did. Also didn‘t like any of their friends 😂 but give me these two, with their banter, doing random stuff forever and I‘m sold

The Ex Talk | Rachel Lynn Solomon

🤩 can I have 24,000 extra pages of their relationship please?? It stinks that they spent more of the book apart than together, but I reeealllly liked them! Also 👏🏼 love reading about men who are kind, respectful, & serious about sex! Plus, lots of diverse characters! A win for me

The Holiday Mix-Up | Ginny Baird
Mehso-so

I gave Ginny Baird another try, and eeeh. This one as ok! I almost bailed but stuck through it because I liked the plot so much. It just wasn‘t given the spark it could‘ve had. Katie + Mateo‘s chemistry was told to us more than it was shown (and then they both acted like the other didn‘t like them?) so the writing just isn‘t my style! There were also a couple grammatical errors - don‘t know if it was just my version.

I actually liked this! Wasn‘t the biggest fan of icebreaker, and this book showed the author‘s style developing. It was a really sweet story with lovable chemistry from Russ and Aurora. The look into their mental health was treated beautifully, too!

Lynn Painter never fails to deliver a fun, fluffy story! I enjoyed their chemistry and friendship so much; they really milked the whole “I have ZERO FEELINGS!” thing too long, especially considering how physical they were with each other & how random the fears were. Really liked it tho, and the closet scene had me 🥹🥰

Oh gosh, this read like gossip from a journal, not an edited, published novel. I didn‘t know where to turn with the unlikable characters, and the choppy sentences were poorly written. And their arguments? How did it go from 0 to cutting her hair? That‘s so toxic and immature. I bailed; not for me

Nice! Had a pretty quick twist/resolution, but I absolutely loved the ending. Marie Lu does such a great job at weaving these stories together. Lighthearted, action packed. I just wonder where the rest of the band went? Weren‘t there more guys?

Emma of 83rd Street | Audrey Bellezza, Emily Harding
Pickpick

Didn‘t want this book to end! I loved how visual these authors were; I felt myself in the snowy, NYC streets and parties. Some plot points became irrelevant overtime and I wish it were longer and actually developed their complexity (Emma‘s chronic loneliness and desire to “fix” Nadine, Emma being considered childish, the grief around George‘s dad + Emma‘s mom, etc) there seemed to be so much more there. All in all, loved this story!

You, Again | Kate Goldbeck
Bailedbailed

The years kept going and going and I didn‘t like the characters any more with each passing page. Ignoring “I‘m Jewish and I‘m here to make fish with muscles and chorizo,” bc sure. But it felt like I was reading scenes of things I liked (The Bear, Mindy Project) with people I really disliked 🙅🏻‍♀️ so not for me

I really enjoyed Jack + Elsie! The chemistry, the storyline, the no-nonsense. But then she kept bringing up the article this 30+ year old man wrote when he was 17?? And she kept doubting his feelings?? And everyone treated “hating theorists” like it was bigotry, not an academic opinion he clearly didn‘t feel (and said he didn‘t multiple times). A little frustrating. But I loved watching her gain confidence; these academia politics are VERY REAL!!

Dating You / Hating You | Christina Lauren
Pickpick

😍 Christina and Lauren write chemistry so well; I could feel it bounce off the page when these two met and talked and interacted. I really liked seeing them use mature communication and coping skills; there were times they were mad and the warfare was funny, but then they got to a point where they actually talked. And I think that made all the difference

🩷😭 I‘m in love!!! This was so beautiful. There were times I was bothered by Fizzy‘s objectification, and I wish it wasn‘t used as a “funny personality quirk.” But I LOVED Connor, and I loved their chemistry, and I loved this story! Christina Lauren books >

I liked it!! The chemistry between Cal & Kathleen was so well written and fun. And their bickering didn‘t feel excessive and toxic, but more like old friends with baggage. And watching them grow through this was great

I didn‘t enjoy Harriet as much as I wanted to. We only got to see her being a jealous, unsupportive friend and then suddenly supporting the relationship. So it‘s hard to see her as the loving bff that the book wanted to paint her as

Oh my goodness, I gave Colleen Hoover one more chance (y‘all know how much I don‘t enjoy these books) and I couldn‘t do it. The writing is so immature and bland, and the story wasn‘t developing at the pace I was looking forward to. Couldn‘t finish; glazed over the ending and ? Confused.

Icebreaker | Hannah Grace
Panpan

Idk what to think of this; it read a lot like Wattpad. I liked their connection and how it grew throughout the story, but I don‘t like helpless main needing to be protected at all costs by the manly man via super destructive jealousy— and that‘s what a lot of this felt like! Plus, why did she hate him so much at first? The hot/cold seemed aggressive, not like the enemies-lovers trope.

So far I‘m skipping through most of the monologue and jumping to the dialogue. There‘a no gripping drama and what was expected to be the conflict is actually not? They were enemies for like 2 pages! They secretly started hooking up at the beginning of the book and it hasn‘t been an issue at all??

😍 I loved this book! So easy to binge, so imperfect, and so nicely written. I loved the dialogue, the chemistry, the wild rawness of it all. They weren‘t perfect, and I was annoyed at their stupidity a few times, but it was such a cute glimpse into a beautiful friendship that I will now hold dear and pretend is mine
