Delightful, Gothic, and just everything I needed it to be. This slim classic is weird and wonderful - I devoured it!

Finally reviewing my spooky season reads and I'm sorry to say Henry James is not for me. I had a fantasy in my head that this would feel like that Nicole Kidman movie, The Others, in which the mystery of children is profoundly frightening but no, it just felt like a very blustery letdown.

My favorite egg and cheese on a cheddar chive biscuit and a frothy cappuccino with some reading before running errands. It‘s busy outside, but wonderfully peaceful in this cafe.

I just realized I have not been posting books as I read- no clue how that happened!!! I had a hard time getting into this book- and for the first half would have considered it a so-so, but as parts came together I began to enjoy it more and by the end was satisfied with the direction it went in. This is the first of a duology- and I would love to hear other thoughts/discuss with anyone else who read it.

⭐️⭐️Gothic books are my fave! But sadly this one didn‘t stick the landing in terms of execution. Didn‘t care for any of the characters, gave me no joy reading this. It had all the elements, house, haunts, mood, but it didn‘t really work. Too much meandering and cardboard people. I think the author tries to pack in too much and kept getting off track. I wasn‘t compelled to keep turning pages.
Trigger warnings for days folks.

I do not like this book, but do not be confused by my rating. I don't like the Halloween Tree by Ray Bradbury, Coraline by Gaiman, and A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness, but I do recognize good chilling novels for young adults hankering for thrills.

Watched the movie!
Pros!
Gorgeous scenery
Breathtaking costuming
Amazing soundtrack
Jacob Elordi
Oscar Isaac
Cons!
We seem to have lost a lot of the complexities and subtleties of the story
I am NOT a fan of how the ending read, to me
Results? Worth the watch, but a separate story from the novel. Which is fine. If I wanted 1 to 1 the novel, I‘ll reread the book. #BookAdaptations

I‘ve been hearing very mixed things about Guillermo del Toro‘s Franksenstein, so I wasn‘t sure if I was going to watch it. And then a friend sent me a review where the reviewer was mad saying “why is the monster hot? Why is the monster sympathetic?” And now I have to watch it. 😂
It‘ll be an after work treat for me today.
#SundayFunday Have a wonderful day everyone, and don‘t forget to tag me in your posts!

This was so good, if a bit slow. It has a very old fashioned, gothic chiller feel, which I loved. There were some truly scary parts interspersed with a lot of intrigue and mystery. Is our main character crazy? Or is she being haunted by killer wooden “companions”? You‘ll have to read to see! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
