One week into the new year isn‘t too late to post my 2026 reading plans, right?! And yes, like every year, I hope to read down my TBR. I hope to use #BookSpin, #192030, and #50x50 (which I‘ll post more about in a separate post!) to help me with that.

Taking stock of my 2025 reading, I did make a dent in my physical TBR: 53 print books +3 Kindle. ALMOST 1/2 library, 1/2 owned.
Own: 53
Own Kindle: 3
Own re-read: 14
Library: 78
Library re-read: 7
⤵️

BarbaraJean Then again, I‘m starting off the year, as per usual, with #AuldLangSpine, which starts me off with lots of library reading 🙃 I‘m also planning to read along with #OokBOokClub and pop in and out of #ChristiesCapers, which don‘t always align with my already-owned TBR. And then I made a last-minute decision to try to keep up with #USPresidents, which will end up being mostly library reading, so… we‘ll see how the year goes! 2d
Daisey This is a fantastic meme! I always hope to read more of my own books, and do read some, but I‘m much more a library reader. 2d
BarbaraJean @Daisey Thank you! I made it myself 😁 2d

Continuing my reread of the Chronicles of Ixia - as with the first book/companion, Snyder has published Valek's POV as a companion for Magic Study. I enjoyed reading these in tandem even more, as Yelena and Valek aren't together for large chunks of time, meaning that The Study of Magic has more of its own story and was less repetitive. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Going for something not from 2025 on one of my TBR Shelves - I‘m doing the #192030 reading challenge which feels kind of fun and hopefully it will help me read some of the things that have been hanging out on my shelves for a long time.

Poison Study | Maria V. Snyder
post image

My first book of 2026 is actually two books 😂 Poison Study, written from the FMC's POV, was published in 2005. In 2023, the author published The Study of Poisons, which is the same story except from the MMC's POV. I found a handy-dandy graphic on IG that had a suggested alternate-chapter reading schedule to keep the two books moving side by side. I really enjoyed this series when I first read it about ten years ago, so I'm excited to revisit it ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) with some bonus materials, like the Valek POV books and a bunch of short stories that have FINALLY been printed together in one book instead of me having to find and read them on the author's website. This is an engaging fantasy series with an intriguing world and likable characters. Valek's book was slightly repetitive when read with Yelena's, but I still really enjoyed both and seeing some of Valek's thoughts/what he was up to when ⬇ 5d
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) they weren't together.

2026 goal is, of course, to post reviews more consistently. We'll see how that goes, but here I am, off to a good start! 😁

PuddleJumper That's a super interesting way to read it 5d
Librarybelle 😂 No worries! It‘ll just mean I‘m adding more to my tbr. By the way, the author is so nice. She is from near me, and I‘ve met her at various mystery and library conferences. I have signed copies of a few of her books but have yet to read them. 5d
Booksblanketsandahotbeverage I love this series and have the Valek pov books on my shelf. I should get back to it… 📚 5d
TheAromaofBooks @PuddleJumper - I wouldn't recommend reading them this way if you've never read Poison Study, as The Study of Poison does have some spoilers. But it was really fun to see the other character's perspective of what was going on. 3d
TheAromaofBooks @Librarybelle - Oh, how fun! I subscribe to her newsletter and she always seems to warm and friendly. I've really enjoyed her books - I think I've read most of them now!! 3d
TheAromaofBooks @Booksblanketsandahotbeverage - I haven't read them for several years so I've forgotten a lot of the details and I'm totally hooked!! The Valek POV is really fun, especially now that I'm reading Magic Study/The Study of Magic, where they spend more time apart, so The Study of Magic isn't nearly as repetitive. 3d

This was well researched look at the American foster care system. It emotionally wrecked me, but it was important for me to read.

Texreader Oh I‘ll bet this was a hard read. 6d
Offmybookshelf @Texreader It was hard. I work at a school where many of our students have been or are in foster care. It gave me a lot of insight I think I can utilize daily. 5d
Texreader @Offmybookshelf I‘m glad it will be useful. My ❤️ goes to you for the work you do. 5d

I start every year by making this my first read for the year. Normally I finish it in a couple of hours, but this year is different. I‘ve not read a book in weeks, including audiobooks, so it‘s an accomplishment to complete this little jewel of a book.

Grief is hard; we all know that. I‘m adjusting to suddenly having so much time on my hands. I had limited downtime, especially with the extensive caregiving needs the last 2 weeks of December. ⬇️⬇️

Librarybelle ⬆️⬆️⬆️ I‘m exhausted, drained, hollow, and lost. And yet, time marches on. Of my three remaining boys, Xander is depressed, and so I‘m talking with him and playing with him and making sure he knows he is loved. We‘ll get through this, one day at a time. Thank you, everyone, to your kindness, love, and support. I was so touched by the outpouring of sentiment from everyone. I wish I could repay each and everyone of you with something. ⬇️⬇️⬇️ 6d
Librarybelle ⬆️⬆️⬆️ It helps to know I‘m not alone. Thank you. Of course, I had to share a cat photo! #SebastianKitty had no clue he acted as a book prop. #CatsOfLitsy . And, for those doing the #192030 challenge, this is an excellent book for #1970 . It‘s a beautiful look at friendship. 6d
Librarybelle I know I‘m also behind with discussion questions for groups. I will get to them; thank you for your patience! 6d

This is such a beautiful read, and paints a vivid scene of a garden with people passing through it and feel I am there with how the scenes come alive.

After reading this I discovered the first edition included illustrations by Virginia Woolf's sister, the artist Vanessa Bell. I would have loved to have seen this book.

With the holiday mood still in the air the title of this short spoke to me, a Poirot story by Agatha Christie. I haven't read many stories by Agatha Christie but the ending of this was unexpected, and the friendship between Poirot and Hastings is warming and kind of like the hot chocolate Poirot sips at the beginning of this story.

Rome753 I remember my grandma always reading Agatha Christie novels. 5d
AnishaInkspill @Rome753 This is a wonderful memory and puts into perspective how popular Agatha Christie's works remain. 4d
