My #DoubleSpin / #ReadOrDonate / #TBRtarot book gave me the #WickedWord I didn‘t find in April.

Frankenstein | Mary Shelly

#ReadAway2024 This is the book I chose for April‘s #TBRTarot prompt, “Choose a book which has become a TV show or movie.” My favorite adaptation of Frankenstein is a miniseries from the 1970s called “Frankenstein: The True Story.” Frankenstein is widely acknowledged as the first science fiction book. I‘m not sure what I expected but this was a pleasant surprise. Mary Shelley‘s writing is lovely. Victor, the so-called hero, wanted to (cont)⬇️

CatLass007 play God but as soon as he saw his creation come to life, he rejected and abandoned the creature, providing him with no education or any kind of guidance. Victor‘s arrogance and cowardice caused anguish and death for the people he claimed to love. (edited) 2w

I really liked this one! I loved Ern and the way he told his family‘s story. This got very twisty but was done very well. Glad I finally got to this one!

My #TBRtarot pick this month was just okay. I loved the Wool/Silo series so I wanted to read more of Howey‘s stuff. This was just a little too straight Sci-Fi for me. Molly is on a mission to recover her missing father‘s ship and this journey takes her across many different worlds. There is a nice cliffhanger at the end and a little romance but I don‘t think I‘ll read the next one. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

A charming story written in a simple, straightforward style. Mrs Harris is a likeable character, who has a lovely adventure in Paris, where she forms friendships with the people she encounters. I immediately watched the film, which has some subtle changes and a different ending. Both book and film put a smile on my face.

The Breakup Lists | Adib Khorram

My first #LGBTQBookBingo2024 bingo! Also my #TBRTarot read for “book by a male author, and my read for #queerbc

I didn't like this quite as much as Khorram's previous books. The main character, Jackson, can be challenging to like, which is part of the story arc and it does pay off well in the end. But there was a lot of internal lusting, which I personally find boring.

My biggest complaint though, was the ending is too tidy (cont.)

willaful ... and resolves a lot of issue without Jackson having to really do any work to change things. For example, Jackson is deaf and doesn't feel allowed to be an actor, only a stage manager. I would have loved for him to connect with a theater company for the deaf.

On the plus side, very sweet romance, what seems like excellent deaf representation, though not #OwnVoices, and relatable family issues. And lots of fun theater kid geekery.

PuddleJumper Ooo congrats on the bingo! Sounds a bit middling but sometimes YA is like that especially with the easy wrap up. I've only read one of his Darius books so interested to see what his other books are like 3w

MsLeah8417 What is #Roll100 ? 3w
See All 8 Comments
TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!!! 3w
Read4life @MsLeah8417 it‘s a low key, fun challenge to read books on your shelves (physical, digital and audiobooks). You make a list of 100 books, ebooks and/or audiobooks that you‘d like to read. @PuddleJumper rolls 3 numbers each month. You then try to read 1, 2 or all 3 of the rolled books from your list. You can always read any book from your list anytime so you don‘t have to wait for it to be rolled. If a completed # is rolled, you can either replace 3w
Read4life It with another title, consider it a completed number for the month or read the book a number above or below the rolled one. Again, it‘s all fun and just an enjoyable way to tackle your TBR. Hope this helps, @MsLeah8417 If you‘d like to join, just go to the link @CSeydel posted above and tell @PuddleJumper you‘d like to be added to the tag list. 🤓 (edited) 3w
julieclair Great list. Happy reading! 3w
