The Coincidence of Coconut Cake
The Coincidence of Coconut Cake | Amy E. Reichert
Youve Got Mail meets How to Eat a Cupcake in this delightful novel about a talented chef and the food critic who brings down her restaurantwhose chance meeting turns into a delectable romance of mistaken identities. In downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Lou works tirelessly to build her beloved yet struggling French restaurant, Luellas, into a success. She cheerfully balances her demanding business and even more demanding fiancuntil the morning she discovers him in the buffwith an intern. Witty yet gruff British transplant Al is keeping himself employed and entertained by writing scathing reviews of local restaurants in the Milwaukee newspaper under a pseudonym. When an anonymous tip sends him to Luellas, little does he know hes arrived on the worst day of the chefs life. The review practically writes itself: underdone fish, scorched sauce, distracted servicehe unleashes his worst. The day that Als mean-spirited review of Luellas runs, the two cross paths in a pub: Lou drowning her sorrows, and Al celebrating his latest publication. As they chat, Al playfully challenges Lou to show him the best of Milwaukee and shes gamebut only if they never discuss work, which Al readily agrees to. As they explore the citys local delicacies and their mutual attraction, Lous restaurant faces closure, while Als column gains popularity. Its only a matter of time before the two fall in lovebut when the truth comes out, can Lou overlook the past to chase her future? Set in the lovely, quirky heart of Wisconsin, The Coincidence of Coconut Cake is a charming love story of misunderstandings, mistaken identity, and the power of food to bring two people together.

Light and fluffy and just what the doctor ordered. Romance is no longer my go to genre but every once in a while you need some brain candy. The two main characters were charming and the supporting cast was absolutely adorable. Otto and Gertrude came very close to stealing the show in my opinion.

My only complaint was the narrators voice when doing Al - the male main character. A little too high pitched. Otherwise a solid pick in my eyes.

This was a fun, light read, nothing exciting or memorable. Amy Reichert‘s A Simplicity of Cider definitely showed her growth as a writer when compared to this one. The true star of this book is Milwaukee, Reichert‘s love for the city shines through.

Breezed through half of this book yesterday, hopefully I‘ll finish the rest today! No fancy breakfasts here this week, I have to make do with easy and convenient. Anyone else eat these? They‘re pretty good!

Finding it a bit ironic that the food item I pick for this #booked2019 prompt is the one food I am allergic to. At least it doesn‘t make me crave the cake! 😂😂

This was the first book I‘ve read by this author. I enjoy books that center around food so much. I have another in my to reads called The Simplicity if Cider as well. This book has a unique story...got a little slow in the middle...but finished strong. A rather predictable ending, but had a few charming twists as well. A light read. Good for vacationing.

I chose this book because I wanted something light and quick, because I liked the cover, AND because it's set in Milwaukee where we have friends we visit often. It did the job of being light and quick and the Milwaukee setting did not disappoint but the story and writing were really cheesy and not great. I would liken it to a Lifetime Movie. And yet sometimes a Lifetime movie is just what you need!
