Canadian horror author Jae Mazer weaves a tale of a survivor of domestic abuse into a terrifying legend of the Alberta prairies. Opening chapters are rich in scary yet smart prose. (Full disclosure: I know her & she is very smart and very cool.) #startsstrong #horror #readwomen

Not too shabby for having to work against client tax deadlines in January AND deal with vertigo attack the last week-ish. 🤷‍♀️

#2020 #JanuaryReads #ReadingGoals = 10 books

Here's my plan for January.

Now, as is the case with most plans, it's flexible to allow for group reads yet to be announced on Goodreads #IntoTheForest and #ReadWomen as well as to allow for #moodreading and/or library holds coming in sooner than expected.

Not sure if I'll read #ComeTumblingDown as soon as it's in my hands or if I'll save it till February... decisions, decisions. 🤓

#2020 #ReadingGoals

53 books = #2020 #ReadingChallenge ; at least one book per week, though I'll likely end up between 75-100

90% of total books read = #ReadWomen ; e.g., 48 of 53

90% of total books by women = #DiverseReads #DiverseBooks by women of color authors and/or Indigenous women authors and/or LGBTQ reads ; e.g., 43 of 48

12 books = #IntoTheForest group challenge on Goodreads

26 books = #LitsyAtoZ

Things that make me happy: a Syrian male author translated by an independent female translator; a female Catalan author translated by a woman; and a female Pakistani author (untranslated -- her secondary education was at English-speaking institutions). All library finds. #supportlibraries #readwomen #readaroundtheworld #readintranslation #womenintranslation

Beautifully written and conveyed. Real and sweet and sad, as all life is. An authentic look at a family and community over time. #ownvoices #readwomen

I didn‘t like this one as much as the first but it was still good. I‘m not into love triangles and this one feels forced. This one has more of a magic focus than the first. #readwomen #audiobook

Really fun book! I enjoyed the characters, futuristic setting, and the completely nonchalant presentation of queer folks. Also loved Jess. #queerbooks #readwomen Fantastic book for pre-teens, teens, and adults.

Loved this new to me series. The characters are well developed and the witches and magic flow naturally as part of the story. The mystery is good and kept the story moving. The romance has a triangle but seems to favor one more than another. Looking forward to the next one. #readwomen #audiobook #cozymystery
