Brotherless Night: A Novel | V. V. Ganeshananthan

Pickpick

Last book completed during the month of March. I couldn‘t finish another book. Second book read from the Women‘s Prize Fiction long list.
A family saga during Sri Lanka war. So hard and sad. I searched for some information about this time and it was terrible, so many people died, so long this war lasted😢 💔
Beautifully written but hard to read. 4.5/5⭐️

BarbaraBB Great review. I am reading this now as well. 3w
Gissy @BarbaraBB Looking forward to read your reaction. I haven‘t read the other books in the long list and I don‘t know what judges are looking in those novels but I think this one pass to the short list. 3w

As most of the thrillers I have read but I continue loving this genre😂it has some unrealistic parts. One event was pretty predictable but that last twist was a surprise to me. I enjoyed this story. A fast pace reading. First time I read a book by this author but I have a couple of books by him but started with this new release🤷🏽‍♀️☺️ 3.8⭐️

I think that this story focused more in the introduction of each characters, their personalities, background, and to be familiar with Holmes‘ methodology than the mystery per se. Maybe that‘s why the conclusion of the mystery was like something rehearsed not spontaneous, like telling us, “this is the way Holmes will resolve his cases”🤷🏽‍♀️I still enjoyed it. 3.5/3.75 ⭐️

dabbe I agree. It does prepare us well for the relationship between Watson & Holmes and the methodology of how Holmes will solve most of his cases. 🤩 3w

Cuilin Agree, it‘s sets up the rest of the canon for us. 😊 3w

Like her memoir, Dolly‘s responses to her readers are very conversational. Reading them feels like talking to an old friend. Her advice is very practical and real, but she‘s never judgmental. She seems to really understand what her readers are asking and gives relatable advice.
