I see this book has mixed reviews, but I loved it.

It‘s a strange family drama with a spiritual/ magical/ supernatural twist? These characters came to life for me. I felt the tension of Noa‘s gift and his fear of disappointing his family. I related to the feelings his siblings had of not being the Golden child, but trying to do their best to be supportive in the ways they could. It‘s easy to see how a strain like this could pull a family apart.

Soubhiville @Hooked_on_books thank you for choosing this book for me, I really liked it! And it completes my #readthestates challenge! Second attempt at #Hawaii 1y
Hooked_on_books You‘re welcome! I listened to the audio of this one and really liked it, too. The author really captured Hawaii well. 1y
shawnmooney I hope I love it too! I‘ll be buddy reading it with my cousin who is really into 🦈s, in the next month or two. Fingers crossed! 1y

Wren is sent to an 8 week camp in the wild Utah desert to learn to fight her addictions and come to grips with the anger issues she‘s been fighting for several years.

This is a great middle grade/ YA read. I was rooting for Wren and her co-campers the whole way through. It was easy to empathize with their struggles. 👍👍

Not a terrible cozy mystery; it takes place in a bookstore, so that was fun. I did not enjoy the cheesy old-timey detective lingo. References to women as dames and dolls, legs as gams, and some casual racism. I thought the murder was pretty easy to figure out, too. (Full disclosure- I don‘t usually read cozies)

Chosen for my #RhodeIsland book for #readthestates.

I chose this for my #Nebraska book for #readthestates and I‘m glad I did. I really liked it! I think this is only my second by Patchett, but I‘ve liked both of them so I‘ll definitely read more in the future.

Litsy was totally right, this book was great! If you haven‘t read it yet, the audiobook was terrific.

I chose this one for #readthestates #NorthDakota, and I‘m really glad I did.

The audio is read by the author, which was perfect. It‘s a historical account of Crazy Horse‘s life as passed down orally through traditional stories of his people. Marshall tells of the old ways of the Lakota and Dakota and how things changed as the first white people appeared, right through when the last of the land was taken from the indigenous tribes. Amazing book!

Addison_Reads Great review! I can't wait to read this now. 2y

I always enjoy JP‘s novels. This one has been on my shelf for a few years. I‘m not sure where I picked it up used.

It‘s not my favorite of hers, but it was good. I particularly liked the main character‘s relationship with her daughter, and her career as a search and rescuer with her bloodhound, Greta.

There were some twists I found really predictable, and as usual she makes you look at morals in some different ways. Overall a good book.

I started Like a Love Story yesterday for #LMPBC (and it‘s my July #Bookspin) and it seems it‘s going to be a really fast read.

I wasn‘t planning on reading The Guncle yet, but I got a “skip-the-line” loan from the library, which I‘m really excited about! I love Steven Rowley.

The Journey of Crazy Horse is for #readthestates #NorthDakota. I hope it‘s good.

And Sorrowland is my #Doublespin.

Cinfhen The Guncle is super adorable 2y
Soubhiville @Cinfhen I loved it! 🥰 2y

Just finished this wonderful audiobook for #ChallengingDamsels non-binary or trans author category. Also read it for Texas for #ReadTheStates. I love it when a book fits two challenges.

I‘m about halfway through my reread of The Ghatti‘s Tale, and I‘m hoping to get close to finishing today since it‘s supposed to be a perfect rainy reading day. I last read it as a teen, and it really effected me then.

The rest are for #readthestates and #lmpbc, and a couple GNs from the library. 🙂📚 Should be a fun reading week!

rachelm Oo love this! I have Shiner on my shelf and want to read it soon 2y
Soubhiville @rachelm I started the audiobook yesterday. It‘s my West Virginia book for ReadTheStates. It‘s good so far. I‘m always intrigued with books about snake handlers. I don‘t get how that ever became a type of ministry. But I do like snakes 🐍, and I hope they don‘t get portrayed as “bad” here. I‘m enjoying it so far 🙂. 2y
Cinfhen Is that a new Jodi Picoult?? 2y
Soubhiville @Cinfhen no, it‘s been sitting on my shelf for years. Pub date: 2016. 2y
Cinfhen I‘m not familiar with that one ☝🏼 guess I missed it\ I‘ll be curious to hear your thoughts 2y
