Bailedbailed

I‘ve had this book sitting on my shelves and now that I finally picked it up I am bailing. The reason is probably me, but I enjoyed the realistic parts but couldn‘t focus on the demons etc. I really tried but I cannot do it for hundreds of pages.

MrsMalaprop Interesting 🤔. I have this on my #tbr shelves too. 3mo
Hooked_on_books I LOVED this book, but definitely not going to be for you in the supernatural type bits don‘t work. Bailing is a smart choice! 3mo

#Two4Tuesday

1. Such a good question—have to go with post-apocalyptic on this one

2. The tagged book would be my top recommendation. Combine the collapse of society, and the aftermath, with vampires as they were meant to be—no sparkles here—and you get a dark, terrifying, & utterly engrossing story. Inspired by the author‘s daughter who asked him to write a story about a girl who saves the world, this book is a favorite

Epic. The first half is pre-apocalypse. Most characters and events here will seem to have no relevance later. Post- apocalypse, the story really begins with a whole new cast of characters. Getting over this hump is crucial. By the end it all comes together, even though this is the first part of a series. As much as I love tales of the end of the world, I admit being a bit fatigued of the premise by now, but this is a high mark of the genre.

Wow, this story is quite the start to what I imagine is going to be an intense and thrillingly epic series! It is really long - I‘m not sure I would have been able to get through it as quickly as I did without listening to the audiobook - but I was never bored or annoyed by the length. I will say that it felt more like two separate books than one cohesive one, but that‘s nitpicking. Great character development and world building! 🌟🌟🌟🌟

krismlars The books are very long but so worth the time! 3y

A good post apocalyptic story. The world building was excellent. The only thing about this is it gets a bit verbose at times and I am not a fan of the constant changing POVs. 4⭐

The first half of this vampire doorstopper was a solid 5-star read. Page-turning, edge of my seat, wait...are we in the future? Cool! It was great.

The second half was a bloated slog with too many characters, almost with the same traits, ugh, these people are impossible to remember. Who is whose sister? Wait, are these people a couple? How far into the future are we? Will I read the 2nd one? 🤷‍♀️

TheNeverendingTBR Loved this and the second book so much, what you described here was exactly how I felt about the third book though; I was completely lost on that one 🥴 3y

I feel exhausted after finishing this first one in the series. The beginning was intriguing, the middle began to lose me, and the ending pulled me back in. I enjoyed following the characters on each of their journeys but at times it got really wordy. Not sure if I‘m going to read on yet. On one hand I want to know what happens but on the other, I‘m not sure I want to tackle another massive book. October 5/20

Unpopular opinion. I thought this was just so-so. Maybe it was the [12-disc!] abridgment, but I‘m not sure I could‘ve lasted for an entire unabridged edition. I was originally planning to read the entire trilogy, but I don‘t think I liked it enough to want to continue. 😕

#3Books [That were RECOMMENDED to me]

1.) From Here to Eternity, my girlfriend recommended this and it was good to read something different and interesting.

2.) The Passage, an absolutely brilliant book; the first in a trilogy that was recommended when the novel came out and I was a member of a FB book club.

3.) Coldheart Canyon, one of my favourite Barker books; recommended by an old friend.

#20Series20Days Day 4

Just a trilogy but each book is a big one so I‘m including Cronin‘s The Passage in my #Top20Series. Why? This is vampires done the right way—dark, violent, terrifying, & the end of the world as we know it. Plus, I have to admire an author who breaks all the rules, quite successfully I believe, in challenging conventional narrative structures. This one isn‘t for the faint of heart but I love it.

Disclaimer: my #Top20Series are going to be in no particular order. It was hard enough to narrow down to 20, so I won‘t be ranking them further. 😂

Day 1/20: The Passage trilogy by Justin Cronin is post-apocalyptic horror that never stopped surprising me. The first book is almost like 2 books in one (in a good way), and the subsequent books are just as fresh and unique.

If I were forced to rank my #20Series20Days, this would be near the top!

Andrew65 I‘m the same, very difficult to rank them. Need to read this series. 4y
TheNeverendingTBR First two were absolutely brilliant, I didn't particularly like The City of Mirrors though; it was all over the place and too many characters that I lost track of who was who. I'll read the trilogy again though because I read them after publication so there was years between reading each installment. 4y
VeganCleopatra I've contemplated doing this but I honestly don't think I have twenty favorites...probably not even close. 🤷‍♀️ 4y

Perhaps I wouldn‘t have started reading this with Seth (12) if I‘d known a global pandemic was coming but he loves some dystopian fiction and this is one of my favourite books of all time. The cover shows I‘ve read this 3 times, and then pressed it into the hands as many people as I can. It was the first post-apocalypse fiction I ever read, it blew me away and opened up a whole new genre and now I‘ve read it with my boy. Those are the best books.

Whew this was a long book. I picked this up because I seen it was a tv show on fox and wanted to get a read on this before watching the show.
