Career of Evil
Career of Evil | Robert Galbraith
When a mysterious package is delivered to Robin Ellacott, she is horrified to discover that it contains a woman's severed leg.Her boss, private detective Cormoran Strike, is less surprised but no less alarmed. There are four people from his past who he thinks could be responsible--and Strike knows that any one of them is capable of sustained and unspeakable brutality. With the police focusing on the one suspect Strike is increasingly sure is not the perpetrator, he and Robin take matters into their own hands, and delve into the dark and twisted worlds of the other three men. But as more horrendous acts occur, time is running out for the two of them...Career of Evil is the third in the highly acclaimed series featuring private detective Cormoran Strike and his assistant Robin Ellacott. A fiendishly clever mystery with unexpected twists around every corner, it is also a gripping story of a man and a woman at a crossroads in their personal and professional lives.

Those of you who told me that this series just keeps getting better were so right. I was really into this book and analyzing the three suspects to try and decide which one I thought was the serial killer. Cormoran and Robin are still more of a draw to me than the central mystery and that ending made me want to pick up the next book immediately.

rachelm I liked this one better than the fourth tbh, but these books are so excellent in general 1w

Prompt: read a book with a spooky word in the title.

A bit apprehensive going into this one as I really disliked book 2 in this series (the silkworm). I've heard good things about this one though 🤞

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Well, I didn‘t know that Body Integrity Identity Disorder (BIID) was a thing, so that‘s ... disturbing news. Robin and Strike investigate another bizarre case; scuffle again with the police. This third installment delivers more background and deeper character development, but was a bit too grisly for my taste. So. Many. Triggers. Despite that, I couldn‘t stop listening. Glenister‘s audio narration is scarily engaging.

Lucy_Anywhere I'm really enjoying this series so far, but Matthew is the WORST 3mo

Back-to-back-to-back........I‘m on a Cormoran Strike run! The more I get into this series, the more I like it. This one had the added (anonymous) perspective of the killer interspersed, which I thought added some more intrigue. Kept me guessing until the end!

Coleen @tessavi You can follow the basic murder storyline without reading the previous books, but part of what i like about this series is the gradual development of the main characters and their personal relationships. So you could, but I think you‘d enjoy it more if you read the previous two first. 6mo

I think I enjoyed this more than Silkworm. The device of having three suspects from the beginning is clever, and quite hard to pull off, making each one memorable enough that the reader can remember their back stories and what‘s going on! The author‘s depiction of settings is so good, she paints a picture in a few words. Of course the twists and turns of the relationships between Robin, Strike and Matthew are gripping too.

Another solid entry in the series, although my least favorite so far. While all the Strike/Robin stuff was great, I didn‘t care for Robin‘s wedding drama or the chapters written from the killer‘s POV. The extensive descriptions of his crimes, sadism, and violent misogyny was definitely superfluous. I did love the introduction of Shanker as a character and hope he appears in the next book.

I decided to finish off my #24in48 with more audiobook and coloring app. Though I'm bummed I didn't make it to 24 hours, I'm pretty sure this is the most I've ever read for one of these challenges, and I was able to take it easier today once I realized I wouldn't hit the goal.

I knew as soon as I woke up that it was logistically impossible for me to get to 24 hours for the #24in48 readathon, but I have no other plans for today, and I want to get as far as I can, so I spent the morning listening to a new audiobook and coloring in the Happy Color app.
