For Harry Dresden, Chicago's only professional wizard, business, to put it mildly, stinks. So when the police bring him in to consult on a grisly double murder committed with black magic, Harry's seeing dollar signs. But where there's black magic, there's a black mage behind it. And now that mage knows Harry's name.

Where on earth has Harry been all of my life and why am I just now being recommended this series??!!
I love Harry - he is old fashioned, he is honorable, and he has a great sense of humor. Storm Front kept my attention and I loved the mystery and wizardry. I, for one, didn‘t see who the bad guy was but I think some of the characters will make a reappearance later in the series. For sure a new favorite of mine!

The audio for this book was a little rough compared to the more recent ones. James Marsters didn't have his groove yet. But it's still a great start to one of my favorite series.

I read the first Dresden book a good few years ago (just revisiting the series now). Jim Butcher crafts an amazing fantasy story with so many twists and turns. So far I have to say I really love Bob! Bob isn‘t something you see every day!

I know there are a billion books in this series. I'm kinda hoping I don't like this. I don't think I'm truly ready to go down this wormhole. #books #stormfront #librarybook

Thanks for the #HelloThursday, @wanderinglynn 😊

1. When I was younger I could retain dreams more, now, not so much. 😴

2. I love dogs and I love mysteries, so I‘ll go with Scooby-Doo!

3. Harry Dresden, Wizard for hire from the tagged book. He‘s such a wise-ass, I‘d get along great with him.

4. Roshar from the Stormlight Archives. Between the unique fashions and the sprites inhabiting the world, I think it would be fascinating.

5. Will do!

wanderinglynn Harry would be an interesting person to meet, but given how much trouble & danger he gets in, I‘m not sure I‘d want to be friends with him! 😂 Thanks for playing! 💜 1mo
DaveGreen7777 Hmmm... you make an excellent point, @wanderinglynn I may have to rethink that one! 😂 1mo

My boyfriend and I broke up this week after 4 years together. I‘m pretty crushed by it so I‘m spending Friday night cuddling with Kevin the giant squid. Also taking suggestions on how to feel not so upset about it (the breakup, not Kevin).

rather_be_reading ahhh sorry to hear that. time for some wine 🍷and books! 📚 3mo
BethM I‘m so sorry. Wine, chick flicks, and chocolate. 3mo
laur89 ☹️💔 Read a good comfort book- Harry Potter usually works for me when I‘m not in the best mood. Also, got chocolate, a cozy blanket, and a series I can binge-watch on Netflix; I like Gilmore Girls or New Girl! 3mo

Ashley_Nicoletto I‘m so sorry. That‘s hard. I agree with a combo of run through it (the gym has helped me through more anxious nights and heartbroken days than I can explain), chick fil a, and ice cream. Gilmore Girls. And just take it easy on yourself. Things will feel easier slowly. 3mo
DGRachel Just time, I‘m afraid, and do things just for you. Also, it‘s okay to be sad or angry and to cry. Be kind to yourself and give Kevin a big hug. 3mo

Really enjoyed the first book in the Dresden Files series! This is probably my favorite quote from this book! Looking forward to reading the rest of the series! If you enjoy fantasy and a little bit of mystery, this will take you to another world!!

To me, Harry Dresden kind of read like a comic book character--a bit one dimensional, but the story grew on me. I don't think I'll continue with the series. Nothing in particular struck me about it, though it wasn't bad.

#24B4Monday #readathon running total 17 hours even.
@TheReadingMermaid @andrew65

FlowerFairy I accidentally read the second book first and glad I did. When I went back and read the first one, I didn‘t think I would have continued with the series, either, had I read them in order. 4mo

rjsthumbelina @FlowerFairy that's good to know bc I read the first one and have not been too keen to continue the series! Maybe I will try the second one out 4mo

rjsthumbelina @Eggbeater I felt the same way about Harry - plus he seemed kind of misogynistic for my tastes. Not sure what exactly happened that made me feel that way, but I remember that was how I felt when the book was over 4mo
Andrew65 A fantastic total.🙌 4mo
Andrew65 I felt the same about the series but thanks for this information @FlowerFairy 4mo
Rudis The series gets better as you go - you can even skip ahead to the third & not miss much. It‘s where I tend to start on rereads. 4mo
zsuzsanna_reads @Rudis thanks! I had the same reaction as @eggbeater and have up after book 2; apparently just too early. 4mo

Repost for @the_hibernator :
I have decided at the last minute to spend the next little-over-a-year reading all the Dresden Files books. Would anyone like to join me? I will start with Storm Front in November, and if people are interested, can post discussion questions on November 30. You are welcome to join later in the year, if you've already started the series and don't want to reread the first few.

Finished this up today on my #audiowalk, and FB reminded me that I got to meet the (so yummy) narrator, James Marsters, 4 years ago! The book was enjoyable; I‘ll probably listen to the rest of the ones my library has, but I may not read the books beyond that.

Both of my uncles have recommended I read this. So last week I finally got around to starting this. I was hooked immediately- so when an emergency road trip came up I downloaded the audio.
Normally I do not think I would like this reader but I think his style of reading was perfect for the character. The downside of finishing this is my #TBR just increased with the rest of the series.

A buddy of mine talked me into reading this one years ago and I fell in love with the series. I'm finally finishing what's out and eagerly awaiting the short collection coming out this year.

Harry Dresden is a professional wizard. And much to the displeasure of wizards far older than him, he has a certain moral code. Basically meaning he can't say no to doing what he believes is right, even if for the rest of his world it might seem wrong.

I‘m surprised this isn‘t more highly rated. I heard so many people talk favorably about this series that I had to see what all the hoopla was. I liked it. I found it quirky, original and yet reminiscent of the golden age of detective noir. I plan to continue reading about the Dresden cases.

I‘ve found that if a series started because the first book was popular, rather than intended from the beginning to be a series, the second book is never as good. This feels like it wasn‘t intended to be a series.... is the second book worth it?

AllenTStClair The whole series is really good. At least, I‘ve read all 15, plus the short story collections, if that tells you anything. 🤣 Jim Butcher had the first three books written before he was published, too. 13mo
BeththeBookDragon @AllenTStClair That‘s good to know! 13mo
Dogearedcopy I have found it to be a very uneven series, some books better than others. I found this especially true with the first four where Butcher seems to be finding his ground. I forgave a lot though when listening to the audio. James Marsters who played Spike on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, narrates and IMO, makes the material better. He *is* Harry Dresden! (edited) 13mo
