I loved this little novel. I've never actually seen the movie, but as it's a pop culture icon, I obviously knew the twist. I kind of wish I didn't, but it was still a satisfying and fun read. 🔪

Christine I‘ve never seen the movie either and now you‘ve made me want to read this. 😄 1y

Not quite a #RemoteInn but a remote motel ran by a dysfunctional loner definitely makes one of my favorite settings on both this book and movie.

Having seen the film countless times, this was the first time I've read the book and it still managed to be unsettling! The film is quite faithful to book except for the fact that the description of Norman Bates had me thinking more of Philip Seymour Hoffman than of Anthony Perkins. I was also surprised to see that Hitchcock changed the setting of the book from the Dallas/Ft. Worth area(where I grew up) to Phoenix, AZ.

Well, the book was an extremely fast read, which I liked. I do wish however, that the book had more murders and more crazy twists like they did for the show. The show, in my opinion, was better and well thought out. The book was still a pretty good read and I enjoyed it.

Now that it‘s finally come in the mail, I‘m starting this bad boy! I LOVED the show based off of this book, Bates Motel. I learned a long time ago to watch the stuff before the books since the books are always better and I won‘t be saying they ruined it (the movie/show) the entire time 😅

I've always loved this movie, but never read the book. I was really impressed that knowing the movie so well that I still enjoyed reading this one. Although I knew what to expect, the writing is extremely well done and I became caught up in the story so much that at times I forgot I knew the outcome.

Please don‘t argue with me on this: Psycho is one of the best movies ever made. Not just one of the best horror movies, unless you want to argue it‘s a psychological thriller or a mystery.
This scene alone changed the course of movie-making, and Hitchcock took a big gamble with technique, a new genre, and he shocked movie-goers the world over.
I can‘t help but watch it every October (sometimes twice).

Book Nr 6 off my #BookSpinBingo board

A great novel for Halloween season! Fluently to read and I admit that the movie adapted it very good. For Hitchcock fans this book is a good addition to the movie.

Especially the insights into Normans thoughts are impressive and go very deep into his psyche.

This is one of the best mysteries I've ever read. It is very compact in its writing. There are no wasted words in it. There is not too much plot. There is no - nor a need for - filler. It even has a slight mystery at the end. With apologies for an odd way to put it - odd though being just right for a Robert Bloch mystery - it is exactly the right size. His language use is perfect as well. Robert Bloch earned his rep. He wrote quite well.

I‘m not sure what I would do without audiobooks. I enjoyed listening to all six of the books pictured above.

Reggie Was anyone a standout? 5y
Bookzombie @Reggie The outside 5 are all series I‘m either in the middle of or just started. I really enjoyed Stalking Jack the Ripper, but Psycho probably stands out the most. Hitchcock adapted the book well, but even though I knew the story I was drawn in. 5y
Bookzombie @Reggie Thanks for asking. I should have written something on each book. 🙂 5y

Admittedly had no idea this movie was adapted from a novel until very recently, but it turns out the source material is GREAT! I read half the book yesterday. It dives a little deeper into the psychology of Norman Bates and to power his mother has over him. #psycho #horror

Of course I knew what was going to happen, I was familiar with the movie and watched the series. However, this book was just different enough to keep me wondering. I was intrigued that Hitchcock had bought up all copies of it before he made his movie, so as not to spoil the ending. I can‘t quite put my finger on it, but the book seemed to have a different tone. Overall I enjoyed it and it was a super quick listen at 5ish hrs
