Bite Me: A Love Story | Christopher Moore
post image

Been reading these with Andrew (finished You Suck a couple days ago, started Bite Me yesterday). He's really enjoying them. I am enjoying them, though slightly less. They're fine...but they definitely read like a man wrote them in the early 2000's, if that makes sense? But I am enjoying reading together, and it's hard to find books that he's interested in, so I'll take it 😂

I recently finished reading Long Division & WOW. Where to even begin. It really did have a bit of everything. Humor, love, time travel...what more could you need 😛 I'm still trying to wrap my head around the ending. But in the meantime I had to do my nails so figured why not paint them to match? I'm quite pleased with how closely I was able to match the colors! 🌈 I posted this on my nail IG & the author commented & shared it, I'm so flattered 🤩

I've recently gotten into the podcast Welcome to Night Vale! It's so weird and fun. I had heard of it before, but didn't actually give it a listen until I stumbled upon a used copy of this at the store. It has transcripts of the first year of episodes and some other fun bonus content. So far my favorite episodes are "A Story About You," and all the episodes with the Glow Cloud. I guess the cover inspired this weeks mani ?

Nine Perfect Strangers | Liane Moriarty
post image

Last year I got really into the show Big Little Lies, starring Nicole Kidman! After finishing Big Little Lies I learned it was based on a book by Liane Moriarty. I put it on my TBR. Last month I saw a commercial for the show Nine Perfect Strangers, also starring Nicole Kidman! It seemed interesting & vaguely ominous. I looked it up & it's ALSO based on a book by Liane Moriarty! The show comes out in August, so this time I'll read the book first.

For June bookclub we picked a LGBTQ+ book for Pride month! I ended up finishing it way early...my hold from the library came quicker than expected, and it was just an easy book to get though! The audio is read by Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton, In the Heights) and he did a great job. I love that they picked a reader not only of the same ethnicity as the characters, but a strong advocate of the LGBTQ+ community.

Blueberry I gave it 4/5 stars. 6mo
NataliePatalie @Blueberry I think I gave it 3 on GR but I might go back and change it to 4. A second book is coming out in October. 6mo

3. For book club we're reading Aristotle & Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, in honor of Pride month!

Circe | Madeline Miller
post image
Mehso-so

I was really looking forward to this month's book club pick, because Circe has been on my TBR for awhile, simply because I'm always seeing it mentioned everywhere! So I expected to enjoy it! However I thought it was pretty boring, and despite covering a lot of ground it didn't manage to have a plot. Didn't hate it but wouldn't recommend it to anyone, either. @Blueberry

Aims42 I tried reading this one a few months ago, and I just couldn‘t get hooked. I put it back on my TBR pile, but I really don‘t see myself reading it again. It was the hype that got me to buy it too #BlameItOnLitsy 6mo
Blueberry Nice background 6mo
NataliePatalie @Aims42 So true! Honestly I wouldn't recommend trying to finish it. If you're curious just look up a summary of the rest hahah. 6mo

Character limit here, so I wrote a longer review on goodreads which I'll link below if you're curious BUT in short: I like the idea, I like the theme, but I don't think I liked the actual story or Calvino's writing style.
