Now that covid has cancelled everything I leave the house for in my state, I‘m really grateful for this Amazon credit! I need a treat! Any suggestions for books so good they‘re worth owning?

paulfrankspencer East of Eden. What a gem! 4y
Hestapleton @paulfrankspencer I love (and own) this one! It might be a good time for a reread since I‘m all cooped up! 4y

I am currently in the process of reading 3 very different books. They are all great, but i think I need a break for something light and breezy. Any suggestions?? I have sooooo many on my TBR, that I am overwhelmed.

CaitZ If you like cozy mysteries try Laura Childs' Tea Shop Mysteries. The first one is 5y
TheSpineView If you like Paranormal I suggest the Half Moon Hollow series. 5y

Big ol‘ reading slump here. I have started 3 different books in the past 3 days and nothing is drawing me in. How do you all bust out of a slump??

Jen2 I reread an old favorite. 6y
Jobe Find the right book! If those three didn‘t draw you in they aren‘t right 6y
JoScho Slumps are the worst. I hope you find something soon that hooks you 🖤 6y
Amiable I read magazines for a while--because the articles are short, I feel a sense of accomplishment when I finish one. 6y

Ok, so Neil is away. Back in two days but soon away for 2 more weeks. I‘m still not sleeping and generally stressed out. Need reading suggestions for when Isla is asleep. Just throw me titles, because I probably own them. Thank you! 🍻

JacqMac I think you need some fun books. I‘m reading the Soulless series. It‘s really fun. And I‘d recommend Jenny Lawson or Davis Sedaris. I hope you get some sleep. 6y
LornaDH Read most of those! But thank you! 6y
sprainedbrain How about The Song of Achilles and Circe by Madeline Miller? She‘s my current author crush because holy buckets, she can write. 😍 6y

I've been inactive for a long time but I'm back! I lost my 15 yr old kitty before Thanksgiving and had a really hard time w/it. I just wasn't up to reading/posting (need to get instagram active again too!). I've fallen out of the habit & need to get reading again. Just don't know what to start with, looking for something on the light/fluffy side, but I'm not a fan of contemporary stuff. Any ideas? #litsywelcomewagon #welcomebackwagon #endtheslump

ReadingSusan Sorry about your precious kitty. I know how hard it is. Sending you lots of good thoughts and hugs 💗💗 Welcome back. 6y
Librarybelle So sorry for your loss! 6y
carmens.library @ReadingSusan Thank you so much! I got her when I was only 16 so I had her half my life. I definitely needed some time to mourn. We just new kittens this month so having cats in the house again is helping too! 6y

My current situation. #Dottie is great company! Trying to figure out what to read next. I find I have zero patience when sick and just want to be entertained. That makes picking up the next book a little challenging.

bedandabook Get well soon! I always find a good, easy read crime novel is perfect when I‘m sick. Let us know what you settle on 😘 6y
LiteraryinLawrence @bedandabook I second that genre! Feel better! 6y
Tamra You need a comfort read. 🤒 For me that is 6y

DivineDiana Something light for sure! 6y
cobwebmoth Feel better soon! 6y
Zelma Good luck! I‘ve never been able to read when sick, which is really a tragedy. 6y
2BR02B I struggle with this too. I usually just end up binging TV shows instead (most recently The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, which made for an excellent distraction.) Hope you feel better soon! 6y
Lesliereads Sorry you‘re not feeling well 🤧 🍲 ☕️. 6y
MicheleinPhilly Blerg. I hope you feel better soon! 6y

EvieBee @Lesliereads @MicheleinPhilly Thank you! Sanitized hugs to you! 🤗🤗 6y

EvieBee @kspenmoll @whatshesreadingnow Thank you so much! I hope so too. Trying to really rest, and stay hydrated...which is kinda challenging lol! 6y
Jess7 If you haven‘t read The Heart‘s Invisible Furies, I highly recommend it. Just finished it last night and it was amazing. I also recently enjoyed Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine, and I‘m loving this one: 6y
EvieBee @Jess7 It‘s sitting on my shelf. I really need to get over the size and just read it already. I love his writing style! And I listened to Eleanor last year. I adored it! (edited) 6y

Okay! I narrowed it to 4. What should I read next Littens? You can vote on my twitter https://twitter.com/rachelshamdiego/status/867522733713653760

BUT THE BOOKS ARE: The Bean Trees, Perfect Little World, Coretta Scott King's Autobiography or Aristotle and Dante Discover the Universe

melbeautyandbooks I haven't read any of those so I'm no help. Sorry. 7y
TheLibrarian I don't have Twitter but Perfect Little World. 7y

Littens, help! What should I read next? I probably need something on the lighter side after The Secret History.

From L to R: Jami Attenberg's All Grown Up, Julie Buntin's Marlena, Rumaan Alam's Rich and Pretty, Tama Janowitz's Slaves of New York, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's Americanah, Cynthia D'Aprix Sweeney's The Nest, Anne Tyler's Vinegar Girl, Nora Ephron's Heartburn, Jasper Fforde's Lost in a Good Book.

I'm open to others suggestions too!

Notafraidofwords I loved All Grown Up, but it's not a light read even if it is short. 7y
katedensen @Notafraidofwords Yeahhhh...that's what I've gathered. I almost started it last night because of the page length, but based on reviews, etc. I thought maybe not yet. 7y
LiteraryinLawrence Jasper Fforde is a good palate cleanser! 7y
See All 14 Comments
Yournewfriendsams Gahh what a good line-up! I really liked The Nest! Family drama at its finest. 7y
Hobbinol I read Slaves of NY way back when it came out. The humor might be somewhat dated by now, but I remember really enjoying it at the time. 7y
Cinfhen The Nest was smart & snarky 7y
KVanRead I have super nostalgia for Heartburn. Makes me want to reread the book, make the food, watch the movie. Meryl!❤️ 7y
KVanRead And Americanah ! 7y
emilyhaldi The Nest is a quick read but not too heavy! 7y
Zelma Heartburn or Lost in a Good Book for lighter fare. Though I really, really liked The Nest. It was a quick read about rich people and their family problems, which is my Achilles Heel. 7y
katedensen @LiteraryinLititz @Yournewfriendsams @Hobbinol @Cinfhen @KVanRead @emilyhaldi @Zelma Thank you all for the input--it helped me select my next read, which I'll reveal shortly! And you reaffirmed that these titles are all #tbr worthy! (edited) 7y
moranadatter I didn't love Rich and Pretty. 7y
katedensen @moranadatter Interestttingggg. I notice no one recommended that one. What didn't you like? 7y
moranadatter It felt inauthentic. The characters didn't feel like real people so I didn't care what happened to them. The marketing didn't help. It was sold as a story about female friendship and it turned out to be a frenemy story. 7y

I read The Woman In Cabin 10 so fast I didn't have time to plan ahead! Here are my choices: the Mothers, Portnoy's Complaint, Consider the Lobster, Arcadia, Since You've Been Gone, Wayward Pines. Kind of a random mix, Ha! Any votes?

Lupita.Reads My vote is biased because I haven't read the others- read The Mothers next! 😂😍📚 7y
Bookish.Leftist.Auntie Wayward Pines 7y
AbstractMonica The Mothers! 7y

Hooked_on_books Wayward Pines is another fast read, so if you're looking to go another direction, I'd suggest something else, but it's good! 7y
BookBabe I really enjoyed Arcadia! So interesting. Good for Thanksgiving too, because it addresses family and what's important and made me feel thankful for the life I have. 7y
JacintaMCarter The Mothers! I'm only about halfway through and I have so many feelings about this book already. 7y
ReadingEnvy I would alternate essays from Consider the Lobster with other reads. 7y
rachellayown The Mothers. (But mine is biased like @Lupita.Reads because I haven't read the others either!) 7y
courtney @Lupita.Reads @AbstractMonica @JacintaMCarter @rachellayown thank you!! I just started the Mothers last night. I can already see why there is so much hype! @Shelia @Hooked_on_books I am going to have to dive into that one soon! I loved the episodes that I've seen of the show. I just needed a lil break from that type of book after all but I'm really excited you both liked it! 7y
courtney @BookBabe I LOVED Fates & Furies, I didn't even think of how it tied in to Thanksgiving! It seems like the Mothers will be a quick read for me so I may have to try and squeeze it in before next week! @ReadingEnvy Thanks for the tip! I've heard reading him can be kind of...dense. I'll try that! 7y
