Whiskey When We're Dry | John Larison
post image
Pickpick

17-year-old Jessilyn Harvey masquerades as a boy, and travels through the post-Civil-War West to find her brother-turned-outlaw after her father dies and leaves her alone on the family ranch. She is a sharp shooter whose skills are discovered and exploited by the territorial governor. It has many qualities of an old western, but no real heroes to be found. Read it after hearing it recommended on #WSIRN podcast.

SamAnne I have been trying to get to this one forever. 1y

#12Booksof2022 This one was another one recommended on the #WSIRN podcast, and the way she described it made me want to get my hands on it immediately. A fantastic, twisted dark tale. @Andrew65

dabbe Amen to that! #twistedindeed 1y

My 2nd-to-last read of 2022. Finished this one a couple days ago. Heard it recommended on #WSIRN podcast, so I grabbed it at the library. I really enjoyed it and loved the dive into the world of antiquarian books!

I was excited to find this one available right away after hearing about it from Anne on #WSIRN but I‘m really not enjoying the narrator. I don‘t know if I can listen to him the entire 8 hours.

Adventures-of-a-French-Reader I'll pick Lost Children Archive, just because I really liked another book she wrote. 5y
Niso @JulietteGF I think I‘ll start with that then. I heard a lot about it and it sounds like an interesting exploration of a timely issue 5y

First entry in #LitsyAtoZ
This book started out much darker than I was expecting and then quickly reverted to being exactly what you‘d expect. I finished this after listening to this week‘s #WSIRN and the guest said she didn‘t like books where the focus is women needing other people to show them how special they are. After that I couldn‘t get any enjoyment from the predictably tidy ending. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Chelsibeau Ya this didn‘t do it for me either. I was disappointed 6y

Meal prepping with the #wsirn podcast on and can't wait to dive into a new book. Even before his prize, I was curious to read something by #ishiguro. And well... this cover appealed to me. Seems like a book that might make me cry though...

BarbaraBB Loved this book - as all by Ishiguro! 7y
