Cute story. Too much beer plot and not enough character interaction for me. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

this title was on so many lists this summer, but imo didn‘t live up to the hype. the first 60-70% were fairly tight, but it unraveled quickly after that. so many important but competing issues, some storylines just got dropped, and it rushed to the end.

on the audio book...i just couldn‘t get past. the fact that. the author could only read. a few words. between pauses. i applaud her willingness. to read. her own book. especially as a shy introvert. but she was poorly coached. and it didn‘t sound. natural at all. that said, lots of great stories and ideas for introverts to get out of their comfort zones.

MicheleinPhilly I‘m sorry but this made LOL. 1mo

it took me a bit to get into this family chunkster. first half all the characters annoyed me, but as the backstory evolved, they grew on me in that imperfectly imperfect way characters do. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Cinfhen My friend wanted me to read this book, but the page count put me off 🤪good to know it‘s worth the time investment 🙌🏻 2mo

i put this book in my cart back in February when i heard of Rosanunde Pilcher‘s passing. i was in my teens then it first came out, but remembered my mom reading it. i started it a few weeks ago as my annual throwback read and left it at the Cape. we were finally reunited this week and it felt so good. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #books #bookstagram #read #reading #amreading #throwback

Bailedbailed

probably the only person who bailed. i just couldn‘t with the writing style. i gave it 130 pages and found myself cleaning closets on my day off instead of reading. don‘t hate me 🙈

Karkar Not the only one, I know someone else who did too! 9mo
Jess_Franzino I wasn‘t crazy about it, and I love Madeline Miller & all things Greek Mythology. I just found the character of Circe to be very whiny, and hated how Athena was characterized. I also ship Athena/Telemachus, so the whole last part made me cringe, but that‘s just a personal bias. 9mo

the first section really held my attention, but then it kind of jumped the shark. the story is told by Wash, a slave boy. as the story progressed, i felt like he was just a narrator, not someone i was invested in. surprised i finished.

mklong I completely agree! It was so rich in detail, but the details didn‘t have a meaningful place in the story which made them feel useless. 11mo
auntie_jenn @mklong yes! and the story got really far-fetched with the girlfriend and the academic components and all the travel. 11mo

had the pleasure of seeing @Liberty interview Edward Carey last night. and yes, she walks perfectly fine in those boots!
