I knew of this story but had never read it before. It was fun to listen to while walking through my local park. I also watched the 1999 movie on Amazon and it was okay. Thanks to Disney animated shorts, Sleep Hollow is one of my favorite stories. This abridged text has illustrations with an aged feel that add to the mildly creepy tale. They did a good job of keeping the heart (or head?) of the story and the illustrations, while not my favorite style, are perfect for it. This version may not make my annual reread list, but it‘s definitely worth picking up at least once.

This arrived today and I‘m so excited. I thought I could wait until next October, but I may have to read it now. Gris Grimly‘s illustrations are delightful. 😍

I'm not intending all my Halloween viewing this year to be bookish, but it's sure shaping up that way! I also went to a live performance of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow tonight with a friend - does that count for points?! I'm doing it. #scarathlon2021 #teamhendrix @StayCurious

I think this year is susposed to be the Haunted Mansion but I haven‘t seen it yet. I also love psychological horror movies and books. Not into blood and gore. But love a good haunted house.

I imagined the best time to read Sleepy Hollow to be a cold, foggy, night with a chill in the air. The kind of night where I could curl up next to the fireplace with a warm beverage.

Alas, it still feels like summer here (the hottest September in almost 100 years, apparently!). So I‘m diving in anyway, even though the AC is on and I‘m still in shorts. #screamathon #neverendingsummer

Waiting for my Love to return from his week long business trip ... he said he was two hours away from home ... just enough time for a short story or two! I hadn't read this since grade school, I forgot how fun of a read it is!!

This was a super fun listen this afternoon! 🎃🎃🎃

At 1 hour 15 minutes, it was fairly easy to sneak this short story into my day. I personally prefer this one in audio more than print. My favorite part of the story is the last fifteen minutes or so. This version is ✔️✔️✔️ because this narrator is great 😉

I also like the Sleepy Hollow movie with Johnny Depp, differences and all. Have you guys seen it?

Considering my first exposure to this story was the Disney cartoon, it never struck me as a scary story, per se. Although the headless horseman did kind of creep me out. But once I finally read it, it's definitely a #notscaryread. #AllHallowsRead

Getting in the Halloween spirit watching The Legend of Sleepy Hollow!

Beginning my Halloween reading. Or listening.

If you haven't read the original story, do yourself a favor and give it a go. Besides being a quick read (only 5 issues in Serial Reader) and filled with the wonderful atmosphere of colonial New England in autumn, it also contains brief hints at many other ghostly tales.

For example, it was the ghastly shrieking woman in white of Raven Rock that waited outside my childhood bedroom window, not the Headless Horseman. Thanks Washington! 🎃

And the first book of #HalloweenHorror and #Scaretober is completed! Fun, classic horror story to tell on those foggy, cold evenings. (But it's not half as scary as books being written today.)
