I have loved every book in this series, but this one has a special place in my heart. This murder/mystery/romance follows the fate of a young lady of Russian nobility, and her family, from the beginning of the Russian Revolution to destitution in London. (Unbelievably satisfying conclusion!) Highly recommended ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #historical #paranormal #Russia

I‘m a fan of historical romance, so it pains me to say this, but this is one of the most boring books I‘ve ever tried to read. It‘s a well written, beautifully edited, coma inducing, snore fest of a novel. 😢

This isn‘t the usual Regency novel. There is no mystery, no peril, and no suspense, which is why I didn‘t rate it a pick (although it is better than so-so). I liked this story, but I didn‘t love it, and won‘t be reading the next in the series. This is a sweet, easy read, with likable characters, and some non-graphic love scenes. #romantsy

This book is full of superfluous commas, and could have used additional editing, but the story is #creepy as hell, so it was worth the angst. This trilogy is actually just one novel in three parts, plus bonus material, and normally that practice annoys me, but not this time. BEWARE the trap door ABOVE the porch! 👻👹💀 Highly recommended! I rate this ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 (5⭐️ for storyline, 3⭐️ for editing) #haunted #paranormal #October #ghost #scary

IheartYA The commas would have annoyed me too much. Run on sentences or fragment sentences also cause me to DNF. 13mo
Arcana @IheartYA I LOVE a creepy haunted house book, so I took a chance. I was warned by the online reviews, and thus ready to deal with the editing issues. Honestly, I‘ve seen worse. (And it was worth the struggle!) ❤️👻🏚 13mo

I loved this book! Susanna Kearsley writes some of the most well-researched #historical novels I‘ve ever read. Unlike most of her other works, this story does have a #ghost, and while not creepy, is delightfully suspenseful. Immensely satisfying, and highly recommended ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 👻🕯🏚

This one will leave #Regency readers unsatisfied, and also isn‘t much of a #ghost story. The description led me to believe that it would be a gothic, but it isn‘t. This is a ‘Cinderella meets ghost‘ kind of #romance. If you have a preteen, this is a book you could let her/him safely read. ⭐️⭐️1/2

I don‘t want to be too hard on this book. If you enjoy YA, this would be a pick. It‘s definitely creepy! There were a lot of teenage decisions made that I found frustrating, and the story was written in the first person, which is not my favorite because few authors can do it well. As an adult read, it was just ok. If YA horror is your thing, this is an #October recommend 🕷🕯🔪 #haunted #YA #horror ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Two weeks ago today, my sweet baby girl‘s soul left her tired little body. For 18 years she has been beside me, on top of me, and underfoot, and her loss is devastating. This picture was taken in May, on the trip up to our cabin. I‘m glad now that I took more time taking pictures of her, than of getting any work done. Kalli Anne 9/7/2000-9/11/2018. 💔💔💔

Just as in real life, this story didn‘t turn out as expected, but I have zero regrets. This story was well written & researched, but chafes like sand in inconvenient private places. I was exhausted before the ending, & that exhaustion has lingered. The contemporary female was weak & irrational, while the historical female was strong & smart, which seems to be the author‘s signature style. If you enjoy mentally rewriting a story, then this is your book! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #paranormal #historical #Egypt

It‘s difficult to find the right words to express my feelings about this book. I can‘t say that I loved it, because that seems too trite, but I can say that this story haunts me. I felt tremendous admiration for the strength and perseverance of this 12th century heroine, and was surprised to identify so strongly with her, while feeling annoyance with her weak and fearful modern counterpart. Excellent #historical, highly recommended ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Unforgiven is the 3rd book in the Echoes from the Past series, and possibly the best. There are so many secrets, so much unknown until it‘s too late, so many different plot twists that the reader simply will not see coming, and that kept me on edge right up til the end. An excellent foray into a shameful period in American history, set in New Orleans, Louisiana ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Highly recommended! #paranormal #historical #romantsy

This is the second in a series about an archaeologist who can see the past when she touches the personal items of the deceased, even as she struggles to uncover her own history. Limited options, superstition, and religion are the themes for this haunting story of two forgotten souls, found buried face down beyond hallowed ground. I love this author, and I love this series. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Highly recommended #paranormal #historical #romantsy

This was a well-written and suspenseful story that I refuse to recommend because the author decided to make it a cliffhanger. This trend of drawing out one story into FIVE books annoys me! This isn‘t Outlander or Game of Thrones, so write an ending, and let the reader decide if they want to proceed! I love this author, but not this series. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️(for writing and research) #historical #romantsy

Irina Shapiro has written books that have broken my heart, and left me crying like a baby. This was not one of those books. It was a nice story, extremely straightforward, with no twists, & somewhat unbelievable. Who inherits a castle with secret passages, is given a map to those passages, & then doesn‘t bother to explore? What kind of character decides to walk away without ALL the answers? ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 #historical #romantsy

Arcana @DebinHawaii I kept putting space between the choices, but when I‘d save, the words would be all smooshed together, so I gave up and put slashes. This was a beautiful, if somewhat difficult, read. For example, Vi‘s story starts in 1944, jumps to ‘41, & then bounces around between those years. The same is true of Aveline‘s storyline, also not running in an easy to follow chronological order. You may need a roadmap in time to find your way through this book, but I recommend it, & look forward to the next in the series. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #historical #romantsy (FYI, this story is clean, romantically.)
