Gone with the Wind | 
pickThe book is far better than the movie. While the dialogue can make you cringe, admittedly I learned much about this time period- peoples, places, origins of good/bad/ugly customs & events. The character story of Scarlett is chilling and sad and .... can touch home with anyone who loses their way or gets caught up in false pretenses. Rhett is an interesting character- all too real before his time. I‘m so glad I read this for so, so many reasons!

I do love this book for its interesting peek at a particular time and place. Some parts of this book truly make me cringe (this being one of the more benign moments).

Haven‘t posted an old book cover in some time so to remedy that here‘s the 1973 Avon paperback edition of Gone with the Wind. The price for all 1,024 pages? $4.95.
bailedA book that portrays the KKK as a victim and enslaved people as being thrilled and happy to serve a pretty mistress from a good family is not historically accurate, but it is racist AF.
Took a little break to read on our deck. My mother got my name from this book and while I‘ve seen the movie, I‘ve never read it. I love it! Tiny detail but there‘s actually a little alligator in the background. He‘s fun to watch (as he‘s maybe 3 feet).
Today‘s Prompt
Ghost: Name a character you would like to visit you as a ghost.
This prompt confused me lol. I don‘t know if they mean like a dead character visit that visits you or just a character in general. I choose Scarlet O‘Hara. Of course, she didn‘t die in the book, but I guess since it took place in the Civil War she would technically be dead now.🤷♀️
My mother had told me how during her time in convent school, Gone with the Wind was the most circulated book among the girls in the dorm. It has been on my list ever since. I read it recently, during my trip to Melbourne.
Most people fail to see any redeeming qualities in Scarlett, and for much of the book, I felt so too. But by the end, I came to appreciate her resilience and how she willed things into happening. Terrible taste in men though!

Friday Night fun. Watching Gone With the Wind for the first time.
I have just started using Bookly. My question is does anyone use the paid version? Is it worth the money?
I cried while listening to this episode.

Nashville here we coming. I have three hours to read uninterrupted.
pickI spent two months reading this book section by section between other books. Overall, i enjoyed it very much. The writing is detailed and the characters come to life with their individual personalities. Of course, there is a lot of casual racism included in the book, but that was the way things were in this period, and i don‘t fault the author for capturing the sentiment of the day. Not sure if i loved or hated the ending.
I am enjoying this story of Scarlett and the Civil War from the confederate perspective, but occasionally the author throws in a line like this and i don‘t know what to do:
“Her kind black face sad with the uncomprehending sadness of a monkey‘s face.”
#Wikipedia says Scarlett and Rhett‘s honeymoon takes place in #NewOrleans, and since it‘s been 13 years since I‘ve read it, we‘ll just go with it!

pickTHAT IS REALLY HOW IT ENDS?
I can‘t even explain my feelings for this book. So well-written and powerful, but the racism is appalling. Scarlett is infuriatingly stupid and selfish but also so strong. Poor weak Melly is the best of them all. I feel like the book is pro-confederacy, but I also wonder if Mitchell wasn‘t trying to show just how backwards it was.
I‘m very conflicted, but I loved this novel, despite the end.

Enjoying this far more than I expected. Watched the film adaptation years ago but much prefer the non-Hollywood characterization.
Confession: I have never had any desire to read GWTW (or watch the movie). I decided I was going to tackle it this year as one of my #1001books for 2019.
I started it last night on audio, and I am SO HOOKED. Already into Part II and I‘m struggling to make myself read my other books.

I want to go straight back to the beginning and start reading it again! Even though Scarlett is a piece of work, I loved her determination, her relationships, the conversations, & experiencing the oh-so-rapidly-changing world through her eyes. And it‘s made me want to read contemporary writing from the Reconstruction era, through other eyes (suggestions pls?)
pickI‘m at a loss for words over how to feel about this book.
It is horribly racist. Scarlet is a terrible character. She‘s selfish, mean, and childish.
However, this book broke my heart a little. It has a cast of characters I won‘t soon forget. It is possibly one of the most interesting epic novels I‘ve ever read. I devoured it. Despite its flaw, I‘m almost certain, when the dust in my brain settles, that this will be a favorite novel.
Sorry, can‘t come to work today. I finally reached Part 5 in my book and I need to stay home and finish it.
