I‘ve seen the wonderful Hitchcock movie and I just started this book. Her writing is addictive. I devoured all the Ripley books some years back. Has anyone any other Highsmith recommendations?

Cazxxx I‘ve loved the books of hers that I have read so far. Would recommend 20h
EverydayImReading Thank you @Cazxxx I will add that to the pile. Great to have a recommendation 20h

“There was no possibility of taking a walk that morning” From the orphanage to Thornberry hall. From the mysterious and handsome Mr Rochester to the poor first wife in the attic. It‘s got it all really. ❤️❤️

Working in tissue culture in 80s and 90s we were told the HeLa cell line was from a woman called Helen Lane. A literal white wash of the truth. This is the real life story of a Henrietta Lacks who unbeknownst to herself has contributed to many advances in science and research and she deserves a voice. There are many books and at least one film also about her life. #Alphabetgame

kspenmoll Her story is now public thanks to her family & this author. I was honored to hear her grandchildren & Rebecca Solnit speak at UConn, and have a signed book. They were incredible. Thanks for sharing your i sight from working with tissue. (edited) 2d
Cathythoughts @kspenmoll That was something to hear her family speak 👍🏻❤️ 2d
Cathythoughts Great book Sinead , that you recommended to us all years ago 👍🏻❤️ 2d

Hearts In Atlantis | Stephen King
post image

I‘ve always been a huge fan of Stephen Kings writing and non horror books. Don‘t forget he wrote Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption. An effort was made to make this into a movie but it barely touched one third of the book. Not even Anthony Hopkins could save it. The book is five linked stories full of stunning writing and page turning suspense. I also loved 22/11/63 and Revival the ending of which he said scared even him 😬

Cathythoughts That‘s quite a recommendation 👍🏻 stacking. 2d

#Aphabetgame I read this book when I was 18 after I had watched the movie. And while the story of the indomitable Scarlett and Rhett Butler is absorbing it is also very underrated as an anti war book. Also add to that list of underrated anti war books is Captain Correllis mandolin.

Cathythoughts Great review Sinead. I saw the movie years ago and loved it 👍🏻♥️ 4d
EverydayImReading I must have watched that movie 5/6 times 😬The book as usual has so much more. Its almost 1000 pages! 4d

I think If I had to chose then Far from the madding crowd by Thomas Hardy would be my favourite book. #Alphabetgame

I read this years ago and it made me laugh so much and I have read most of Brysons books now. Filled with strange and unusual stories and facts told in a loving way. All of his books are so well researched most of them like this one from his personnel adventures. #Alphabetgame

Finally on my summer holidays so it‘s thrillers all the way. First up is The party by Elizabeth Day. The writing is so good and the characters so complex and intriguing, that I‘ve lined up another of her books for seconds #summerholidayreads

I listened to this on audible. Not a bad story but also not quite the thriller I expected. It‘s well written interesting and entertaining. The audible presentation was excellent.

Cathythoughts Sounds like a good read , I love the cover illustration 👍🏻 1w

Pickpick

My first Shirley Jackson novel and I loved her writing. Thank you for recommending it Cathy. The story and characters were so well drawn I felt I was living in the castle. Such an unusual story too. Rare to find something that surprises.

Cathythoughts Great review Sinead! Yes very unusual, I loved this one too. 👍🏻 1w
