I really enjoyed this book. It was exactly what I was in the mood for. Think I will be reading a lot more of this author's books. She has a similar style to Jilly Cooper or Anita Burgh.. good story, lots of characters and lots of drama, but still a fairly light and enjoyable read.

Cortg It‘s been over 20 years but I remember really enjoying Tara Road by Binchy. There was also a 90‘s movie with Minnie Driver done on Circle of Friends that was decent. Tara Road had a movie but I remember that one being bad. Cheers to discovering authors! 1w
Yoricke_SouthAfrica @Cortg It really is such a pleasure to discover a new author with such an extension list of books. Thank you so much for the info, I'm definitely going to look into the movie and add Tara road as a next read. 1w

After battling with the first chapter of this book, I was pleasantly surprised by how well the author has been able to find humour in our country's very dark history.
Even with the comedic sense, the author was still able to bring across the seriousness of the topics that he covers.
This book is well worth the praise it has received and most definitely well worth a read!

Starting this book by my fellow South African, Trevor Noah.

SantieWantie Oh my word you‘re in for a treat!!! It‘s so GOOD. I wish I could read it again but it‘s comedy so you can‘t read it many times over without the novelty wearing off. Enjoy 🤩 4mo
Enchanted_Bibliophile I've tried this one multiple times, but I can't seem to get past the first chapter. Will be on the look out for what your thoughts are on it as a fellow SA 4mo
Yoricke_SouthAfrica @Enchanted_Bibliophile I'll be honest, I was very hesitant to read this book. After chapter 1, I was put off. I'm on chapter 9 now. It did get better. Let's see where it takes us... 4mo

This book was surprisingly fantastic. It gave me serious Downton Abbey feels. Also reminded me of Anita Burgh, an author my granny and I used to read together.
A beautiful English family drama that includes a Welsh family mansion, Hollywood beauties and lots of intrigue.

I would suggest researching this book before jumping in, as I believe this is the type of book that not only has entertainment value, but also a healing value to it, at the right time.

In this book the new Emperor wants to make his mark by adding Britain to the Roman Empire, something that Julius Caesar could not achieve.
Of course this plan is hatched with underhanded politics, but war is eventually waged. Will he be successful?
