When Gods Die
When Gods Die: A Sebastian St. Cyr Mystery | C.S. Harris
14 posts | 27 read | 6 to read
The young wife of an aging marquis is found murdered in the arms of the Prince Regent. Around her neck lies a necklace said to have been worn by Druid priestesses-that is, until it was lost at sea with its last owner, Sebastian St. Cyr's mother. Now Sebastian is lured into a dangerous investigation of the marchioness's death-and his mother's uncertain fate. As he edges closer to the truth-and one murder follows another-he confronts a conspiracy that imperils those nearest him and threatens to bring down the monarchy.

I‘m going back to read the early St Cyr mysteries. This is the second in the series, and an enjoyable read. Set in England, 1811, in a period of growing unrest. George II is on the throne, but experiencing increasing symptoms of mental illness. The Prince Regent is found, in his Brighton Pavilion, with dead woman. Those who oppose the House of Hannover are involved and Sebastian is investigating. Interesting details about his family tragedies.

This is the 2nd book in the Sebastian St. Cyr Mystery series. I really enjoyed this book. Sebastian gets entangled in a murder when his mother's necklace ends up on a dead woman in the Prince Regents room.

Book 2 of the Sebastian St. Cyr series. I enjoyed this one more than the first! Sebastian is asked to help solve the murder of a woman who was found with Prinny, the degenerate Regent. Kat, his love, and Tom, his 'tiger's, are figured prominently in the story too. Sebastian has always wondered about his mothers death and when her necklace is found on the dead body, he knows something isn't right, since it was around her neck when she drowned.

Grabbed this one for my plane ride. It's super engaging right off the bat, exactly what you need for flying in a pandemic. At least the bars are open again.

This isn't my typical genre (maybe that's why I was gravitating toward it) also, this pic has zip to do with the book.

But it's just plain engaging.

Full review here... Which doesn't say a whole lot more this time.

Phew, this second rather silly but entertaining regency mystery-thriller was enjoyable enough that it may have broken my bad streak. Lots of chases, street fights, interrogations, conspiracies and ruined coats for Viscount Sebastian St Cyr.

Another meticulously done and well-thought-out mystery in the Sebastian St Cyr series. A noblewoman is found dead in Prinny's arms, as discontent with the House of Hanover grows. Is someone covering up for the Prince Regent, or did someone else kill the lady?

This series is definitely a #blameitonlitsy, #blameiton @robinb! 😜

SilversReviews Nice job on the collage. I have only read AS BRIGHT AS HEAVEN. 6y
Andrew65 @SilversReviews Thanks, I am using these as a good aide memoire for me to record my reading over the year. This seems achievable as a weekly post. Also allows me to track my reading challenges as the year progresses and plan for future reading. A quarter of the way through but loving 6y
SilversReviews @Andrew65 AS BRIGHT AS HEAVEN is so good and seems appropriate and scary in reference to the flu that is going around now. GREAT idea for a good memory aide. :). (edited) 6y

Andrew65 @SilversReviews Funnily enough we had a good discussion in #BOTMBuddyRead yesterday about the flu issues and this book. I thought the flu was bad enough in the UK (Based on my experience as a headteacher / principal of a Primary School - ages 3 to 11) but sounds as if it has been a lot worse in the US! 6y
SilversReviews Is Litsy having problems? I keep getting kicked off and comments aren‘t posting. 6y
Suet624 Look at all those challenges you‘re doing! 6y
jpmcwisemorgan Looking good! 6y
SilversReviews @Andrew65 Fun you are a principal/head teacher. I was a teacher too. :) The flu is really bad here. Frightening how many young people are dying from it. 6y
Andrew65 @SilversReviews Yes for my various sins that is my role! I was amazed when I heard the figures for Flu from American Littens! And yes Litsy seemed to ha e a period when nothing was happening! 6y
SilversReviews @Andrew65 LOL - I taught business for 34 years. Time to leave. :) I liked a lot of posts, and they didn‘t show. :( 6y
Andrew65 @jpmcwisemorgan Thanks 😊 6y
Andrew65 @Suet624 Yes unfortunately I can‘t resist challenges and joining discussions. Currently doing #EpicBuddyRead and #BOTMBuddyRead as well as three group Reads this month elsewhere. I must be mad! 😂 6y
Andrew65 @SilversReviews That‘s a lot of years. I initially started as a qualified teacher in 1990. Became a Principal in January 2003. A lot of years doing that role now! 6y
Suet624 @SilversReviews yes I had the same issues with Litsy. 6y
SilversReviews @Andrew65 I enjoyed it, but am glad I am not there now. 6y
DivaDiane Oh, you read Assassin‘s Quest! I so want to continue my reread of the series! 6y
Andrew65 @DivaDiane I‘m looking to move onto Liveship Traders next. 😊 6y

Starting book 2 in the Sebastian St Cyr Series, which takes me to the days of the Regency in England, a very nervous time as not that many years since the French Royal Family were deposed and killed,, and King George IiII has been removed from the throne due too his ‘madness‘. Amongst this no doubt a murder will take place. Looking forward to this as really enjoyed the writing, characters and plotting of the first book.

DGRachel I love this series so much. I‘m actually all caught up and waiting for the next one. I think it‘s out in April. 😊 6y
Andrew65 @DGRachel These are actually quite hard to get hold of locally. Our library doesn‘t own one of them. I can see why you would love the series. 6y
DGRachel That‘s tragic! It is a really “me” series. 😂 6y

Andrew65 @DGRachel I am very surprised, and also noticed the next couple of books don‘t even have a kindle version! What‘s going on people? 6y
DGRachel I have them all on Kindle! 6y
Andrew65 @DGRachel I often wonder why the difference between the US and British Markets, both ways. If there is a Kindle version why it s not available in both countries. 🤯 6y
Andrew65 @DGRachel Just checked, 9 of the 12 books are available for Kindle. 6y
DGRachel I don‘t know. That puzzles me, too, and kind of breaks my heart. If I had physical copies, I‘d mail them to you, but I actually only have this series on Kindle. 😢 6y
Andrew65 @DGRachel Lol! Don‘t worry I‘ll get hold of them somehow. 😊 But thank you. Looks like it will be a delve into the bookshops! 6y
