I really enjoyed this book. The story within a story format was interesting and well done. Being written in verse, it went rather quickly but was no less hard hitting. I didn‘t even realize it was historical until I read the Afterword. Highly recommend since it is still UNFORTUNATELY relevant in our society today. It does involve sensitive issues though.
My Waterstones Finale arrived yesterday. Love these hidden covers!
Late post, but May is Mental Health Awareness month. Here is my TBRf (To Be Read from) pile, as I likely won‘t get to them all this month. They all deal with the topic in one way or another. I‘ve already read the top two and liked them both. Now I‘m on the tagged book.
Funny story...I was so worried about dropping the books in the pool that I dropped my phone in instead 🤦🏻♀️
I know we‘re over a week into April now, but here‘s my March Wrap-Up! I‘ve never used a book planner before, but I managed to score this Little Inklings Design one and I am in love with it. I think it‘s helping to keep me on track with my reading goals, which is huge. The breakdown is Children‘s: 1, Audios: 2, Graphic Novels: 4, Physical: 5
Well I‘ll be a son of a ◼️. Didn‘t see that coming. I‘m about 170 pages from the end and was just blindsided. Tell me it isn‘t true! What the ◼️?!? #catsoflitsy
I put this on Instagram (same handle: gibblr, follow me!) for an Owlcrate Photo Challenge ❤️ My baby helped me with this one!!
Sooo...the rave reviews about this one made me buy it. I have no idea what I just read. Vibes: King‘s Sorry, Right Number ~ Fletcher‘s The Hitchhiker ~ possibly Lockhart‘s We Were Liars. However, unlike those stories, this one lacked the bang of realization. Rather than being left with a holy s$!@ feeling, goosebumps, or a general sense of unease, I was left with mostly confusion. If you‘ve read it let me know!
This one was really really good guys! I got it in an Uppercase Box awhile back now and kept overlooking it. I‘m so glad I finally picked it up. Told in journal entries to his therapist, it chronicles the life of a teenager with schizophrenia. I may or may not have cried my way through the last five chapters. 5⭐️
There is SO MUCH good stuff in this book. Here, a few of the girls chopped their hair off for charity and everyone is freaking out. One boy even tells a girl she used to be pretty. This boy, however, knows it was for a good reason, recognizes he doesn‘t have any say in the matter, and still likes them anyway. This particular snippet made me cry, as my mom also had cancer and I cut my hair super short to honor her and also donated my ponytail. 5 ⭐️
I know it‘s a bit hard to read, but this is so so important. Screenshot and zoom in if you need to. I love that this is included in a middle grade graphic novel. There‘s so much going on in just a few panels. I truly hope that when my son read this, he took something away from it. It‘s increasingly imperative for kids to be aware of these things. All the vocab and concepts need to be normalized in discussion with our children.
She just pulled this out of her backpack and showed the neighbor kid (who is here for some reason). Here‘s the convo that followed...
Her: You wanna read a book?
Friend: Ummm, nah.
Her: Ok, yeah! Let‘s read some.
She started reading to herself while he ran in circles in the living room, BUT she won and now she‘s reading to him. 😂
Happy St. Patty‘s Day everyone! I don‘t do beer, so here‘s my glass of wine. I‘m behind on my March reads in general, especially this book for my #LMPBC. Enjoy what‘s left of your Sunday, Littens!! @IheartYA I wanted you to know I received the book the other day 😁
Even though I‘ve had the physical book for awhile, I ended up doing the audio. I wanted to read this and Legendary before my preorder of Finale arrives from the UK. Now I‘m questioning it all. This was a little too scattered and confusing, and I didn‘t end up loving it. There was an interview with the author at the end of the audio where she said even she didn‘t know stuff as she was writing. Unfortunately, I think that was reflected in the story.
I listened to the audio of this second one in the series. I feel like I want to get a print version just to count the number of times she says the three-part names of John and the dog. Good god it‘s a lot!! I found LJ slightly more annoying in this one, but could be due to the narrator since I read the first one on my Kindle. I‘ll def still read the third one. These take me right back to middle/high school loves 💕
This pic has nothing to do with anything, it‘s just my book sleeve that‘s next to me! @Canndor @kamoorephoto @IheartYA I sent the three of you an email regarding the #LMPBC if you could check and respond! Thanks 😁
I actually laughed so hard at this 😂 Now to think of one to deal with my husband who has a knack for asking me what I‘m doing when I‘m reading. Ummm...???
Today my daughter has 2 volleyball games, my son has 3 basketball games, and my husband is coaching 1 basketball game. I can officially say 6 games is too many for one family in one day!!! I want to be home curled up reading, but alas...mom/wife life calls. 🤷🏻♀️ (Tomorrow I refuse to do anything but read!) Happy Saturday, peeps.
Hey @Canndor @kamoorephoto and @IheartYA I was thinking we could plan here which books to send for #LMPBC so we don‘t get any duplicates. When you know what book you want to send, just leave a comment! I‘m currently between a couple and can‘t decide!! Also, thanks for joining! It‘s my first time and I‘m super pumped 😁
I‘ve decided to join the #LMPBC hosted by @suvata 😁 This is my first time joining and I‘m excited. I started Group P for YA standalone novels. Come join me!! https://m.signupgenius.com/#!/showSignUp/5080444aead2ca0ff2-l...
Guys, I really liked this one. It was a combo Iliad, Odyssey, Beowulf...but with some badass females. Despite being a modern epic tale, the writing was rather simple. I think for this reason, it wasn‘t as emotional as it could‘ve been. However, that sort of fit the story and the way of its characters. Many open ends of storylines lends itself to sequels. (I tried very hard to capture the beautiful foiling on the cover.)
Just a typical night here in my house. Kids are in bed and this is what a him vs me looks like! 😂 Who can relate?
How funny that this was the May BOTM and the group of women in the book is called the May Mothers. This was a good read. Fast paced, but at the same time all the details coming to light slowly. My theory was correct in the end, but I did initially make the mistake of falling for the author‘s tricks. Tenth read of 2019 done!
