Cuilin This chapter helped me understand how they made a tv show. Tommy and Mr William seem good sorts. The Baker family with their 8 kids, Ruby and Pearl! 7mo

Ruthiella @Cuilin I‘ve not seen the show but have wondered what they might have pulled from the book, what they might leave out, what they might embellish… 7mo
TheAromaofBooks The story about the guy just wandering off for a YEAR?! I need MORE DETAILS on where he was and on poor Mrs. Macey's sketchy missing husband 😂 7mo
willaful Maybe I was spoiled by book 2 but I'm having so much trouble getting interested in this one! Just dying for it to be over already, 7mo
KAO @TheAromaofBooks Agreed! Where in the world was this man for an entire YEAR?! And the mystery of Mrs. Macey‘s husband off with “his gentleman” is very suspicious. I‘m betting we never find out more about these, but I hope I‘m wrong! 7mo
willaful @KAO Any other author, we definitely would. For this one, odds are against us! 7mo
mcctrish Me too @willaful also the abrupt way of introducing characters and then writing “but never fear dear reader, he‘s dead and buried in South Africa “ so I get whiplash 7mo
BarbaraJean @TheAromaofBooks @KAO YES! I have so many questions!! @mcctrish All the death previews are grating on me 😆 7mo

willaful Yeah, back to the lack of narrative. 😂 Joe's story made me very sad, because my daughter is disabled and I worry so much about what will happen when we're gone, especially now. I bet poor Joe's mother was fretted to death about it. 7mo

BarkingMadRead @willaful I worked with special needs kids before I retired, and stuff like this makes me crazy. I have zero patience for it 7mo
Bookwormjillk So random. I thought it was because I was sleepy and dozing off, but then I went back to read again and nope. Just random. 7mo
BarkingMadRead @Bookwormjillk I had so much trouble focusing 🤣 7mo
Crinoline_Laphroaig I'm guessing still no plot? 😆 7mo
TheAromaofBooks I've always read about calf's foot jelly in old books as a great delicacy, and I can see why after reading about how time-consuming and complicated it is to make... but I definitely don't want to try it! 😐 7mo
BarkingMadRead @Crinoline_Laphroaig I feel like we got teased with some plot and then it was snatched away 🤣 7mo
BarkingMadRead @TheAromaofBooks hard pass 🤣🤣 7mo
AllDebooks Some things belong in the past, like that jelly 🫣 7mo
Cuilin @AllDebooks the jelly and fox hunting!! 7mo
dabbe I gotta admit, I skimmed through this chapter and read like this: the dull green blahblahblah ... the interesting green ... blahblahblah ... fox hunting omg skip ... disgusting jelly omg skip ... blahblahblah reverend and wife then both die + congregation ... blahblahblah done. 😂 7mo
willaful I had trouble concentrating too. Thought it was the ambien. 😂 7mo
mcctrish How we get from #outwiththeoldinwiththenew clergy to Luney Joe to who takes a bath where and when is beyond me @dabbe there‘s skip and then there is skim 7mo
Bklover @willaful This made me laugh!!😂😂 7mo
willaful @Bklover glad to be of service. :-) 7mo
dabbe @mcctrish Perhaps a skip would be better--as in today's chapter as well! #oy 7mo
mcctrish @dabbe maybe skip to the end 🤣🤣🤣 7mo
dabbe @mcctrish If you will, I will. 🤩 But since I did do that for verdant-verdure UDOLPHO, I feel obligated to see this through. Sooooooo close! 😂 7mo
mcctrish @dabbe we are so close it has to count either way 🤣🤣😆 7mo

I almost forgot to post my #OutWithTheOldInWithTheNew #20in4 #readathon results. I‘m too lazy to add up my reading time tonight & my goals were more about what I could finish. I completed 6 books & made progress in 2 others. I also kept up with readalongs of A Tree A Day & Sense and Sensibility, so all-in-all, I‘ll call it a success. Thanks @Andrew65 for hosting! 🤗

Andrew65 That‘s a great success, well done and thanks for playing along. 🥳🥳🥳🙌📚📚📚🍾🥂😊 8mo

This was a fun tongue-in-cheek Christmas caper romance. Adam is under witness protection after leaving the mob. He's trying to lay low when he suddenly needs to dispose of a body & borrows a boat, accidentally kidnapping the captain in the process. A storm hits & the two men have to work together to get through the danger. This was silly and you can't help but feel for Adam as everything goes wrong when he's finally just trying to do right.

This was a reread for me, this time on audio. It was great to listen to a story in between other listens over the month. Still love these stories better than the original film Love Actually 😅

I won this short story anthology in a storygraph giveaway a while back & I'm glad I finally read it for my #doublespin pick of December. These were all queer retellings or stories inspired by Much Ado About Nothing, which was already my favorite Shakespeare play. Some were better than others of course but a few really stood out as unique and memorable. There are some art pieces scattered throughout as well. Definitely a worthwhile collection

#OutWithTheOldInWithTheNew #20in4 #JumpStart2025 #Read2025

My first finished book of 2025, I‘ve not read any Haig before but it was the book pick for the #OnceUponABookClub “Up All Night” box & came with a champagne glass, the #OUABC 2025 40 Book Challenge poster & 3 gifts that correspond to the story. I have some mixed thoughts about the book—I liked it but it took a while to get into & the magical realism was too heavy-handed for my taste. ⬇️

DebinHawaii … Still, it was an interesting story & I liked Grace, the MC, the Ibiza setting & much of the messaging on humanity, grief & living life, so in the end it gets a pick. I also really liked the playlist included: https://open.spotify.com/track/2A6yzRGMgSQCUapR2ptm6A?si=PvbQFNIhRHu91lqYLnQ2Jw more so than the gifts which were a bit meh. (Although the wrap & presentation was lovely). (edited) 8mo
Lizpixie Matt Haig is always a bit navel-gazing about the meaning of life I think. The setting sounds amazing though. Well done on your first book of 2025!🎉 8mo
Andrew65 I wouldn‘t definitely recommend The Midnight Library by Matt Haig. Well done 🥳🥳🥳 8mo
