I received my #LMPBC today! Can‘t wait to dive in and escape my real life responsibilities. Thank you @shellleigh33 for the goodies. Do I keep the notebook or send it along? Very generous. ๐ picture of Finn for attention.

Love Lillian Boxfish as a character and shows great positivity and belief throughout the book.

I absolutely love the character, Lillian Boxfish! What a perfectly quaint little old lady she is! For this reason, I also really liked this book. Lillian was so bold, energetic and unapologetic! She had a great philosophy on life that really got me thinking. I hope I age to be just like her in my golden years. I recommend this book.
Lillian is in her 80s and has lived in New York for 60 years. she was once the highest paid female advertising writer, until marriage, motherhood and a mental breakdown ended her career early. on New Year‘s Eve, she walks 10 miles through the city, interacting with people from all walks of life, thinking about her past and the present. a bit slow and didn‘t go where I was hoping it would but ultimately, it‘s a love letter to big city life.
Loved reminiscing with Lillian Boxfish walking past places I've visited. Pic of the New York skyline from the Brooklyn side. Lucky to be headed back there next week.#Skyscraper #SavvySettings @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Eggs
It was... Okay. I was interested to read in the acknowledgements that Lillian was based on a real advertising woman, because that was the part of the book that I liked least. Some parts of the book were really charming and others were just so-so. I know all these protofeminist novels are very in right now. I consider myself a feminist so I don't really know what it is I generally don't like about them. Anyway, that's my #unpopularopinion. โญโญโญ
I decided to read this book which I found someone posted about for the curious covers tag, and whilst I loved the idea of the plot, it just didn‘t quite reach the place I expected it to go. I would of preferred hearing more about the stories of the people Lily met through the night. There were some but I wanted more like that. This was in no way a bad read though
I gave this book 3 stars โจ

After seeing this post by @MayJasper about a month back as part of the #CuriousCovers tag, I looked it up and it sounded really interesting so I went out and bought it a couple of weeks back and now I‘m gonna start on it. Exciting!

Lillian reminded me so much of my Gramโmagical, complicated, rebellious and a poetry lover. They would be about the same age, and both have a tremendous love for New York City. So my whole experience with this book was colored by that connection. I loved it so much, even though it meandered (seemingly) aimlessly across decades, experiences and city blocks.

I really enjoyed spending this snowy day with Lilian. I had so many laugh out loud moments. Thanks for sharing it with us @samanthagutt @EH2018 I will mail it out to you this weekend!

The snow has started here in Maryland. We are supposed to get 8-12 inches over the next 2 days. So I am going to spend some time with Lillian Boxfish! #ecbc

Perfect end of the year read! Lillian literally walks all over NYC on New Year's Eve 1984, has adventures, & thinks about her life. Full of 80s refences that I got and will make you want to visit the city. ๐ฝ๐พ๐ฅ๐ ๐

Just some reading after my first Covid vaccine dose! Feeling good! ๐
New Years Eve/Day Books aren't as plentiful as Christmas Books. Here are few I've read or plan to read.

So happy with my #EastCoastBookClub choice! I don‘t want to give away too much in my review so I don‘t ruin anything for the other book club members, but I will say that Lillian Boxfish was probably one of my favorite characters I‘ve read in a long time. Hope everyone else enjoys it too! #ECBC
#WordsOfOctober Lillian Boxfish is #Energetic and spends a lot of time walking around New York.

๐ I‘m not sure I‘ll get a bingo this month, but I‘m having fun trying! :)
This book was exceptional. I loved Lillian, loved her stories, loved her character. I loved the way the book was written. I‘m really glad I read this. Highly recommended.

Although I haven‘t finished my #bookspin yet, Lillian was my #doublespin, so I‘m making progress toward #BookSpinBingo.
๐ staying home tonight, I‘ve been #audiopainting with Lillian Boxfish and my watercolors.
๐I also made Rice Krispie treats, to my boys‘ delight.
๐ Sitting down now with a mug of Earl Grey Creme tea. It‘s a relaxing Saturday evening. There‘s so much to be thankful for. ๐
#BoundTogetherJune I enjoyed reading about Lillian's #Memories as she walked through New York City on New Year's Eve 1984.

Today‘s Dollar Tree #bookhaul starts with #blameitonLitsy - the tagged book isn‘t something I‘d usually pick, but after all the love for it here I figured I could spend $1 to try it out. I‘ve never heard of the others but they look interesting. And, honestly, it‘s the first time I‘ve been in a book-selling-type-place in months - I was going to buy something, right?
I want to be Lillian when I grow up! โค๏ธ

Read the two years ago and enjoyed it very much!
I gave the standard 100 pages, and a little more. It's just not for me. I'm just bored. There's nothing for me to really care about or really wonder about. Not my sort of thing.
#unpopularopinion time but I just couldn‘t get into/connect with this book. It could very well be me but Lillian just felt kind of whiny to me and the story was very meandering. Maybe I went it to it expecting something that it wasn‘t but at about 150 pages I realized that I didn‘t have any interest in finding out what happened. Maybe I‘ll revisit Lillian down the road but for now her story will be traveling. #bookcrossing #travelingbooks
โI was not a believer in things just changing. One had to try to change them.โ

More books with old lady protagonists, please! I really enjoyed this one. Lillian is delightful in ways that only an old woman could be, and the use of dual timelines made perfect sense here, really helped tell the story so well. You can really see the older Lillian in her younger self, and even vice versa somehow. Does get a bit dark near the end & I wish that section had been given more space, but overall I loved & highly recommend it! 4/5 โญ๏ธ
There in the bathroom, certainly, I felt well past tears, and made a point of not meeting my own eyes in the mirror. The minute you see yourself you‘re forced out of your head and into your body, forced to reckon with yourself as a thing that takes up space in the world, that others can see and react to, that has a story with a beginning, middle, and end that intersects with other people‘s stories. A mirror gives you perspective.
Among the many unsurprising facts of life that, when taken in aggregate, ultimately spell out the doom of our species is this: People who command respect are never as widely known as people who command attention.
...one could only sugarcoat the hemlock so much.
[Ooh, that‘s a great twist to that turn of phrase!]
โAll right, all right,โ he said, with that gesture I‘d come to hate: two open palms facing me and patting the air, as if pushing me away, pushing me down, pushing any tears I might be preparing to cry back into their ducts.
I thought at times that poetry might be an elegant way of screaming.
Everything in fashion these days seems so childlike and bellicose, bright yet aggressive, a cute positivity that recasts every woman as a cross between a majorette and a Sherman tank.
[Ah yes, the good old stylin‘ 80s! ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ]
Felt like reading a book about an old lady, if that tells you anything about my mindset these days... ๐๐ปโโ๏ธโก๏ธ๐ต๐ป #nowreading

Utterly charming! Loved spending time with Ms Boxfish while meandering around NYC. Thankful for the #Booked20 #winter2 prompt, hat/head covering on cover, to compel me to finally read this after having it for 2+ years. #MountTBR @Cinfhen @4thhouseontheleft @BarbaraTheBibliophage
My last book for 2019, and what a perfect way to finish out a year! Quiet, reflective, yet full of emotion, this book features Lillian Boxfish as she reminisces about the good and the bad in her life, while walking the streets of NYC on New Years Eve 1984. Quite a remarkable character, full of grit and determination and yet a vulnerability that was almost her undoing.
