Birds of a Feather: A Novel | Jacqueline Winspear

Mehso-so

2nd book in Maisie Dobbs series, and like 1st one I found it both interesting and boring.
Interesting as historical fiction in its depiction of post-WWI Britain, reeling from the trauma of war and moving forward slowly yet surly. The details and the research are rather impressive. However, as mysteries the books are BORING. The characters are flat lacking depth and individuality esp Maisie who is more of good-girl-robot with a 6th sense. #review

1- This Book is a biography of the intriguing Mitford sisters, British socialites who were active participants in many social and political movements (including socialism, communis, fascism and Nazism) that shaped the UK, Europe and world.
This is a long review in Litsy standards, therefore, I am going to divide it over 6 posts.

Scochrane26 They sound interesting to learn about, but we need a better book. 4d
Niso @Scochrane26 The Sisters: The Saga of the Mitford Family by Mary S. Lovell is supposed to be a much better book 4d
Niso @Scochrane26 Also check The Mitfords: Letters between Six Sisters by Charlotte Mosley 4d

Scochrane26 @Niso thanks! 4d
CarolynM I've enjoyed and agreed with your other posts on this book. I'm glad I've not read this one. The Mary S Lovell isn't bad, Selina Hastings's biography of Nancy is excellent and so is Jessica's autobiography 3d
CarolynM Anne de Courcy's biography of Diana was a bit too apologetic for my liking, but I really enjoyed the view of her and Mosley in 3d
Niso @CarolynM Thank you for the great recommendations!

We Were the Lucky Ones | Georgia Hunter

3stars
This family was EXTREMELY lucky, from their established wealth to their “aryan” look to their special skills. If this weren‘t based on a real story I‘d have stopped reading because too unrealistic.
It was between non-fiction and fiction style, writing was lots of telling and little showing. The narrative seemed to glance over the most interesting parts.
Not really a book about the Shoa but more about the family‘s history.

Finished this the other day & love it! Its been such a thrill (like riding an emotional roller coaster!) reading this action packed sequel to #LIFELIKE
This time it focuses mainly on the character LemonFresh with few new characters & if you Love the Xmen/MadMax vibe last time, you'd definitely love this one. As usual, #JayKristoff tends to feed his dark soul off his readers tears! 😆 So...Be prepared! 5/5

Finished this 600pages collection of #Shadowhunters novella. It's a collection of short stories of Jem from #TheInfernalDevices throughout the century to find the lost Herondale, so there are lots of characters & children of the characters we love throughout the book. It's not her best work but it sure warms your heart reading them. Ive gotten so emotional during a few.

Finished first book for #24B4Monday #Readathon last night & I Absolutely LOVE this book! TBH I was pleasantly surprised by it. I don't usually like Romance novels but this one is well written and it also deals with stalking, gaslighting & abusive relationships, even tho the plot is little predictable. It's funny and heart warming.
5🌟/5🙌

Brilliant book that has forever changed my understanding of capitalism & politics, offering a new framework to consider international politics and the development and aid work funded by UK and USA. One issue is the omissions of geopolitical and historical dynamics in Lebanon and Iraq in favour of advancing Klein's argument, making me wonder about the omissions in her discussions of S. America, S. Africa and Asia.

This book totally took me by surprise! A #Fantasy #Mystery & part #Horror story
What I love most are the characters, these 3 kickass strong girls who turned from enemies to allies and stood together to fight this monster & this stupid men only cult! I'm surprised to see the diversity of these characters (including biseual & asexual) and the writing was beyond any #YA I've read this year. A solid 4🌟/5

sebrittain I loved this book! Have you read her Empirium series? 3w
BooknerdsLife No I haven‘t yet but have reserved them from my library 🤗 Have you read? Did you enjoy them? I‘ve seen some reviews & seems like those who love this book don‘t like the other series as much and vice versa 🤔 (edited) 3w
BooknerdsLife @sebrittain oops! Just saw your review! 😆🙈 I cant wait to start the series! 3w
sebrittain @BooknerdsLife I love the series, but it definitely took a while to get used to the alternating perspectives/storylines 3w
