Do you read ebooks?
Any time I buy a new handbag - my criteria is would a water bottle (I have one of those excellent flat memo bottles) and my kindle fit in here?

abookishbutterfly I only recently began reading ebooks. I accidentally entered a giveaway on Goodreads for an ebook and I won so I gave it a shot and found I didn‘t dislike reading from a screen as much as I thought I would! I‘m on my third ebook right now. 5y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Butterflyamore, that‘s so good to hear! I love my kindle for when I‘m out and about (or travelling for longer periods) 5y
OrangeMooseReads My purse criteria is would a hardcover fit easily. If that will fit it‘s all good because then my Kindle or IPad will fit for ereading 😁😊📖 5y
See All 9 Comments
tournevis Most of what I read is ebooks or online. 5y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @OrangeMooseReads, I like small handbags 🤩 but yeah if you can fit a hardcover you should be right for everything else 5y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @tournevis, I like that I‘m carrying around 100s of books effortlessly on my kindle 😁 5y
tournevis @thegirlwiththelibrarybag That too, but books are heavy and it hurts my hands to hold them open to long. 5y
rubyslippersreads I read a lot of ebooks, mostly because my eyes prefer bigger print. 😄 Plus it solved my problem of running out of stuff to read while I‘m out and about. As long as I have my iPhone, I know I‘ll have plenty to read. 5y

Help! I read on my phone on my Kindle app though sometimes you do see me with an actual book. Do i need an actual Kindle? I can't decide. Is it different on your eyes? Let me know your Kindle opinions!♥️

CocoReads I use an actual kindle because of the larger screen. But my eyes are old and I need all the help I can get. 🤣🤣 5y
TheSpineView I read on my phone also but only at work. Nothing bets my Kindle. Much easier on the eyes. You can read in bright sunlight and at night in bed without disturbing others. 5y
StayCurious I use the kindle app on my IPad. I like a bigger screen and my iPad also has my Kobo app, and Scribd so I use it for everything. But IPads are $$$. So a Kindle might be the way to go. 5y
See All 14 Comments
theresidentromantic @StayCurious @CocoReads I've been looking at it because it's an in-between. I have an iPad, but I always feel like it's huge to read on and I'm over careful with it cause I can't afford to replace it, so it never leaves the house. But I feel like my phone is too small and I often get distracted. And @CocoReads you're not old! 😜 5y
theresidentromantic @TheSpineView Good to know, thank you! 5y
StayCurious @theresidentromantic you could also try an IPad mini. Again pricey though. I like mine because things like book covers and graphic novels are in colour. I think it really depends on what you‘ll use it for. 5y
CocoReads I‘ve got the kindle fire. It‘s in color which I like and I can‘t afford an iPad. @theresidentromantic I am older but overall don‘t feel it except when I get out of bed in the morning and in my eyes. I‘ve got cataracts that are ready to come out but due to my hubs more pressing health issues, I‘m not getting mine done until fall. 5y
CoverToCoverGirl I only read e-books @theresidentromantic when I can‘t get a physical copy.. for example The Last Riders or Hades Hangmen series @CocoReads because I want a book immediately or if a book only comes in e-format.... but when I do read an e-book I prefer to do it on my kindle or kobo over my phone. (edited) 5y
CocoReads I‘m about half and half on real books vs kindle or nook (because ridiculously, I have both). I‘ve been trying to alternate physical with ebooks but ebooks are more convenient and right now easier on my eyes. I still love the feel of a physical book though. 5y
wanderinglynn I used to only use the Kindle app on my phone, but finally broke down & bought a Kindle Fire. I like it because, like other people said, larger screen. It does make a difference. And then I‘m not using my phone‘s battery. 5y
JoScho I adore my Kindle. Worth every single penny! 5y
theresidentromantic @CocoReads I'm sorry about your cataracts! My offices accountant just went through that, I hope you'll recover really quickly!! @CoverToCoverGirl @JoScho @wanderinglynn it sounds like no one has anything bad to say! Thanks ladies ♥️ 5y
CouronneDhiver I like the app... I‘m a minimalist. No sense in getting another electronic device if an app will do the same job. 5y

I finally broke down and bought a kindle today. It‘s refurbished (=cheaper) so I can see if I like it. My “panic” in getting on a plane and not having enough (🙄🤣) to read was a huge factor in my decision. I‘ll still love my physical books but it will be nice to have as an alternative.

ShyBookOwl I made the switch about a year ago to better accommodate my chronic pain issue and my wallet... I've never looked back 5y
wanderinglynn Exactly why I bought one—for travel. I still prefer physical books, but a Kindle is super nice when traveling. 5y
Kaila-ann @ShyBookOwl I can see, books get heavy and cumbersome sometimes. I got most of my books used so I think the wallet damage maybe equal lol. I don‘t remember the last time I paid full price for a book lol. I‘m glad to hear you like your kindle tho. I‘ve been debating for a while. 5y
See All 13 Comments
Kaila-ann @wanderinglynn exactly! Then you don‘t have to lug books around while you‘re out and about. I won‘t have it in time for the first flight but I should have it in time for the second one 🙌🏻 lol. 5y
wanderinglynn Plus, Amazon has loads of free books (a lot of the classics) & if you have a Prime membership, then you can also “check-out” up to 10 books at a time (with no return date). So I rarely have to pay for ebooks, and never full-price. 5y
Kaila-ann @wanderinglynn I do have prime and they keep sending me emails for e-books - another factor in my purchase lol. Not to mention the giveaways on goodreads as well. It won‘t replace my physical books but I‘m not going to lie and say I‘m not excited about it haha. 5y
DivineDiana I didn‘t know about refurbished ones? I have an old Kindle Fire. It works fine, but seems so heavy compared to the new ones. 5y
Kaila-ann @DivineDiana I found it through the woot app for $35. It‘s the 8th generation. It‘s supposed to have some dings and scratches but as long as the screen is fine i really don‘t care. 5y
DivineDiana Thanks for the tip! 5y
Kaila-ann @DivineDiana you‘re welcome 😊. They‘re running the deal for 9 days or until the sell out. If you have an amazon prime account the shipping is free as well. 5y
DivineDiana I do! 👍🏻 5y
DaveGreen7777 I resisted eBooks for quite a while, but I must confess, I‘ve come to really appreciate my Kindle. It lets me highlight passages without damaging a book, and it does save me so much storage space now! 😁 Physical books are still my favorite, but eBooks are a great alternative. 5y
Kaila-ann @DaveGreen7777 resistance definitely appears to have been futile lol. I don‘t think having a kindle will replace my physical books but will open up more book options. My dream house has a dedicated library 😉. Travel and a lighter everyday bag are not downsides to having a kindle tho lol. 5y

KathyWheeler I have a Kindle Paperwhite, which I love. It‘s easy to read, there‘s no glare, fonts can be adjusted, and it‘s light. 5y
That-Bookish-Hiker I have the newest kindle fire. I love it especially because it is a colored screen but I can also use my OverDrive app on it and check out books on it without having to do do it on my laptop. 5y
JacqMac I have a Paperwhite and I love it. The no glare is my favourite part. And I can set the light low enough when reading in bed, that it doesn‘t disturb my hubby. The only con for me, is that it isn‘t compatible with Canadian libraries. 5y

Rachel.Rencher My husband and I both have Kindle fires. I think they're great, but definitely get a case. They're slippery buggers. 5y
Susannah @KathyWheeler @That-Bookish-Hiker @JacqMac @Rachel.Rencher Thank you all so much! This info will definitely help with my decision. 5y
TrishB Paperwhite 👍🏻 got last year and it‘s great. 5y
Emilymdxn I have a paper white, I‘ve had it a few years and it‘s lasted very well and I love it a lot 5y
jillrhudy Another vote for Paperwhite. I got the one with a reading light and ads (they are just images on the home screen and don‘t interrupt reading experience) four years ago on Prime Day for $79. Love it. 5y
saresmoore I‘ve had a few different models, but the new Paperwhite is my favorite, far and away. 5y

I don‘t have an actual reader so I was thinking of getting the new PaperWhite. I think it would be easier to use at work. Does anyone have one? Just wondering if they are worth the money or if I should stick with actual books?

Lel2403 They are useful if you‘re somewhere waiting unexpectedly and no book to hand....I use mine during chemo as can only use one hand then lol 5y
Wonderwoman89 @Lel2403 Oh I am so sorry you are going through chemo. Is there anything you need that I could send you? 5y
Lel2403 @Wonderwoman89 oh thank you but no, sorry I only meant to say how useful I found the kindle....not fishing for sympathy lol...you‘re so kind xx 5y
See All 10 Comments
Wonderwoman89 @Lel2403 oh I hope that isn‘t how I came across. My friend has stage three breast cancer and just started chemo and I made her a goodie bag to take to chemo. I was thinking maybe you could use something to help you through it like a kindle book or something. I know you weren‘t looking for sympathy. I just know what you are going through is tough and as a friend I want to support your fight. 5y
Lel2403 @Wonderwoman89 not at all...it was lovely of you...I‘m Stage 4 Melanoma and it can be tough. It‘s lovely people like you that cheer me up no end. Thank you so much x 5y
Soubhiville I had the last generation of paperwhite, and it worked very well. One nice thing about ereaders is watching out for the deals. It‘s pretty common to find big titles for $2-3. 5y
Soubhiville Personally even having a kindle, I found I very much prefer regular “real” books. So I really only use it when I travel. 5y
Bookish_AF I love my Kindle (paperwhite)! I do the majority of my reading on it. My mom got me my first Kindle several years ago when I deployed and it was the greatest thing. My mom is also has a Kindle and we set up an Amazon “household” account so all our ebooks are automatically shared with one another. And many many library books are Kindle compatible. I personally would recommend it but not everyone loves them as much as me! 5y
JoScho I agree with @whippoorwill815 I adore my Kindle and it is how I prefer to read at this point. There are so many free books and deals and it is great for library books. So easy. If heaven forbid something happened to my Kindle I would immediately go out and buy a new one without a second thought. 5y
Wonderwoman89 I just bought the PaperWhite. Now to download some free books. Any suggestions? 5y

2. I own a Paperwhite and an Oasis
3. I use one of them every day, sometimes both of them! (The Paperwhite goes just about everywhere with me but I only use my Oasis at home)
4. I borrow a lot of ebooks from my library and almost exclusively read them on one of my kindles.
5. I have 1030 ebooks on my Oasis. About 5 of those are library loans.
6. I have Audible on my Oasis but haven‘t used it.
7. I have a case on my Paperwhite.

Kaye Thanks for answering. Your skin is pretty. We both have close to the same number of books also. I used to own a Fire but we gave it to someone who needed it to download school books for a class she was taking. 5y
KathyWheeler @Kaye I don‘t like my Fire very much. It‘s the $50 one and it doesn‘t have a lot of space or memory. It‘s also heavy. 5y
Megabooks I have that same cover on my iPad 😁 5y
Kaye Yea I never liked reading on my Fire after getting an iPad. It feels too clunky. 5y

Soooo I‘m having an issue with kindle.. I read from my kindle, my kindle fire and sometimes the kindle app through my phone.. for some reason they can never sync right. I always have to manually set a bookmark in each one to know where I left off in a book.. does anyone have this issue too??? It‘s getting a little annoying 😤

Shit you guys. I can't find my Kindle anywhere. I had it last when putting my youngest to sleep yesterday morning... Didn't use it in the evening as usual because the room here is too dark. While said toddler refused to nap earlier, I tore the room apart except for packing everything loose away - nothing. We live in a crime-ridden country so even at a nice resort one of my first thoughts is theft 😢😢 Really hoping I still find it!

Kindle Voyage vs. Kindle Paperwhite

They share most features, except: V has adaptive backlighting, PW backlight must be adjusted manually; V has page turn “buttons”, PW you just swipe to turn pages

Both glare free in ☀️

What I like about V: Amazon‘s origami case is excellent; predictive lighting works well; lightweight

What I like about PW: NO STUPID BUTTONS; nice matte screen feel; easy to hold w/o case

Winner: Paperwhite b/c of price 👇

saresmoore For reading in bed or on the beach, a case-free Paperwhite is the way to go. For reading at your desk or at lunch, the Voyage with Amazon‘s origami case (the off-brands suck) is unbeatable. @TrishB I personally don‘t see how Voyage is worth the extra cash, seeing as the buttons are my least favorite feature, but it‘s still an excellent eReader. It is slightly less heavy, but slippery w/o a case, which costs even more. 6y
Mommamanzi Paper white all day everyday. 6y
saresmoore @Mommamanzi It‘s really great! I got the Voyage because I thought the adaptive lighting would be easier on my eyes at night. It turns out I usually do a manual adjustment anyway! I‘ll be stealing my husband‘s Paperwhite, now. 6y
See All 26 Comments
knittedgnome My husband just surprised me with a Paperwhite. Already I am loving it more that my fire!! 6y
saresmoore @knittedgnome Yay! What a great gift! 6y
TrishB Thank you 😁 I think because of the monetary difference I‘m definitely going for the paper white now! If the Voyage isn‘t superior for any other reasons it definitely doesn‘t seem worth the difference! This will be a payday purchase next week hopefully!! @Cinfhen 6y
Cinfhen Thanks @TrishB ! So helpful @saresmoore since I‘m ordering it and having it sent overseas are there any accessories I should purchase or must have?!? I saw something about a power adapter or charger maybe?? 6y
saresmoore @Cinfhen It comes with a USB cable, but not the power adapter. We just use one of the myriad Apple adapters we have lying around, but if you don‘t have extras of those or a computer to plug into, it might be a good thing to purchase. The bundle with the leather case looks like a pretty good deal if you don‘t mind spending extra. The third party cases are cheap, but kinda terrible. 6y
saresmoore @TrishB Yes! I think that‘s a good call. I hope you love it! Oh and I‘ll say the same to you about the bundle with the case and power adapter—if it‘s available to you—it looks like a pretty good deal & I‘ve been very impressed with the Amazon cases. 6y
TrishB I have a adapter for my current kindle. I‘m assuming/hoping it will be the same! But definitely buying a cover. 6y
gilroyc If I were to bump beyond my paperwhite (love the wedding gift. 😃) I'd have to go to the Oasis. I want the option to switch to audible files. 6y
Cinfhen Thanks 💗do they use 220v in Uk @TrishB ??? I‘m wondering if I should order from Amazon UK because otherwise I need an adapter for charger 6y
Flaneurette I completely love all my kindles! I have a paper white, voyage, and oasis 2. I‘m really enjoying my new oasis but it‘s probably not worth the extra money over the paperwhite. Totally agree on origami case👍and haptic buttons 👎for voyage. The voyage really has a lovely screen. 6y
TrishB @Cinfhen UK is 230 but rest of Europe 220. According to google....😁 (edited) 6y
saresmoore @Flaneurette The screen—yes! That is what I like most about the Voyage. I like turning pages on the Paperwhite screen better, though. There‘s something about the matte finish that makes it feel more like a tangible page turn. I do covet the Oasis for bathtime reading and the nice, wide side to hold it. 6y
saresmoore @gilroyc That is certainly an appeal of the Oasis and I would also appreciate the water resistance. Paperwhite is a lovely gift, though! Congratulations & best wishes on the wedding, by the way! When is/was your big day? 6y
gilroyc 8 days away! Eep! 6y
saresmoore @gilroyc How exciting! I‘m sure it will be wonderful. You have my fervent hopes for a memorably peaceful and enjoyable time! 6y
Redwritinghood Thanks for this. I‘ve been debating updating my Paperwhite but had the sense it may not be worth it. 6y
Cinfhen Ahhh, thanks @TrishB extra stuff I need to deal with 😬😬 it seems all my devices suffer from this voltage situation 6y
Moray_Reads I think the Voyage was worth it when it first came out but the Paperwhite had been upgraded so many times that it's basically caught up. I think I'll get a Paperwhite when my Voyage dies 6y
saresmoore @Moray_Reads I agree with you there. My husband rarely uses his Paperwhite, so I‘m thinking I‘ll commandeer it. One for upstairs and one for the first floor...doesn‘t seem too excessive, right? 6y
Moray_Reads @saresmoore why move if you don't have to? 😉 6y
britt_brooke Love my Paperwhite! 🙌🏻🙌🏻 6y
AlaMich @knittedgnome I have a Fire and a PW. While I do read on the Fire, it is significantly heavier than the PW, which I don‘t love. 6y
AlaMich @saresmoore Ha!! Using that logic, you need an Oasis for the bathroom so you can read in the tub. Perfectly reasonable! 6y

Help me out, Kindle-loving Littens? Mr. TheWordJar wishes for me to cease reading ebooks on my phone, which he deems silly. So for my birthday, he‘s getting me a Kindle. I‘m between the regular Kindle (just like my ancient Nook, no light) and the Paperwhite (better resolution, not sure I need the light). Question for those who have these devices: How is the lighting on the Paperwhite for eye fatigue? Also, just tell me which one to get! 😆 Thanks!

vivastory I'd go with the Paperwhite 6y
robinb Such a nice Mr. @TheWordJar ! 😉 I went from one of the very early Kindles (push buttons, no light) to my current Paperwhite. I absolutely ❤️ my Paperwhite!!! The light is a godsend because I read a lot at night in bed, and it‘s got a wide adjustability for brightness. The only fatigue I have is reading much too late into the night! 🤣 Whatever you choose, Happy Reading!!! 6y
Jess7 I love my paperwhite. During the day I have the light off and at night when my husband is sleeping I turn it to a real low (#5 setting of like 20-30 options or something) - I highly recommend the paperwhite and I think @britt_brooke would also recommend it 6y
See All 31 Comments
TheBookHippie Paper white !!! You can adjust the light :) 6y
Jess7 Even using the paperwhite‘s light in total darkness - it‘s so much better than reading from an iPhone bc the Brightness is super adjustable to a specific number - and you can get it very low to lessen the eye strain issues presented by our phones (edited) 6y
FlowerFairy I have chronic migraines and reading on my phone for any extended period of time is straight up migraine fuel. Looove my paper white. When #HurricaneIrma hit Florida we were without electricity for six days. As soon as it was dark, the kids were bored. Was able to read to them from paper white for hours on end and keep them happy. Also allows me to read without waking the #Manpanion. 6y
Betty Paperwhite for sure! I had an older kindle; and am so glad I changed to Paperwhite. Get the kind of cover that turns it off automatically when you close it. 6y
BookHermit Built in light is essential on my device. It‘s just not bright enough on its own in low light situations. 6y
SassyBookworm I absolutely LOVE my paperwhite!!! In the nicer weather I absolutely love to read outside so it‘s perfect with no glare! & just like @FlowerFairy I can adjust the brightness at night & not disturb my partner (#manpanion lol I love that btw) where when I had a regular kindle or used my phone it bothered him with the brightness! So paperwhite definitely has my vote 🗳😏 (edited) 6y
LisaJo Paperweight. I love my paperweight. The built-in light is fabulous and can be adjusted for brightness. I like that is only an E reader so I‘m not tempted to check my email, Facebook, Twitter, etc. 6y
ReadingOver50 I have the paperwhite. The built in light is great 6y
Readerann I still have a really old Kindle, but I‘m thinking I MUST get a paperwhite now! 😁 6y
kezzlou85 Paperwhite for definite. The built in light is brilliant and a god send when my daughter used to be up all night coughing. 💜 6y
ReadingVampire My first Kindle was the paperwhite, and I highly suggest it. In my opinion, the Paperwhite is superb, and the lettering crisp also gives you that bookish feeling but with a glow. I gave my best friend and husband a Paperwhite for Christmas, and they both love it! I would take the extra step up for the Paperwhite. Happy reading!!!! 📚🤩👊🏻🧠👀📖 6y
kylienoele Paperwhite is the best! Especially at night because you can adjusts the brightness. Paperwhite all the way! 6y
Kaye My vote is also for the Paperwhite. The regular one, it seems harder to see the print because there‘s not enough contrast between the background and the lettering. You can set the PW to any level of brightness, and the letters are always clear. Good for daytime or night. Doesn‘t bother my eyes as much as reading on my iPad ..I also get migraines and the PW doesn‘t seem to aggravate them as much if it‘s set on lower lighting (edited) 6y
laurieluna Also paperwhite! My partner has the regular and I use mine, a paperwhite, far more often. The backlight is adjustable so even if you're reading with the light off you can put the backlight on low so it isn't a strain. 6y
Books88 Paperwhite! 🙌 6y
dariazeoli Paperwhite! I love mine and the light is worth the extra cash 6y
britt_brooke @Jess7 @TheWordJar Definitely Paperwhite!! 6y
JessClark78 I love my Paperwhite. It‘s fantastic for reading in bed at night. 6y
JenReadsAlot Paperwhite 👍 6y
MarriedtoMrT Paperwhite! The light was life-changing for me (only slight exaggeration). 6y
theokiereader I would definitely get the Paperwhite. You‘d be surprised how much that backlighting comes in handy! I upgraded from a Kindle Touch (no backlight) to a Kindle Voyage (same as the Paperwhite, except the light automatically adjusts according to the lighting conditions). It has been amazing! 6y
RiotMom Paper white! Even if you don‘t think you‘d need the light, it comes in handy. I love mine. 6y
That-Bookish-Hiker I love my paperwhite. It doesn‘t hurt my eyes especially after looking at a computer all day for work. (edited) 6y
TheWordJar @robinb He‘s a keeper! 6y
TheWordJar @FlowerFairy @kaye I also get migraines and was worried about the lighting, but it can‘t be any worse than reading on the phone! Thanks for your input! 6y
robinb @TheWordJar hang on tightly to him! 😊 Glad to hear so many love their Paperwhites! 6y
TheBookHippie I get aura migraines and it doesn't bother me more than my phone it's actually better . Enjoy! 6y

Hey Littens! I‘m thinking about signing up for Kindle Unlimited but would love to hear what you think of the service. Anyone out there use it? Is it worth it? Many thanks ❤️😎😀

LibrarianJen I don‘t subscribe to it because a lot of what‘s offered is also free for prime or is available through my library‘s ebook collections. However, I do subscribe to Audible! 6y
SassyBookworm I also stopped the service bc I could get so many books through my library! I‘m totally addicted to my Libby app, which uses Amazon! I had also noticed that most of the books I wanted either weren‘t offered or were pretty cheap (I like to read Indy authors when I can!). But I would highly suggest checking out your libraries ebook collection before you make your final decision 🤓 Happy Reading!!! 6y
Librarianaut @LibrarianJen @Chrysta23 thank you! I was thinking that my public library‘s ebook offerings might be just as good (I‘ve been using them for a long time and love their service) 6y

Anyone else love the 1st of the month just so you can see what new bargains are available on kindles monthly deal? Daily deals can unearth some bargains as well. Here are just a few books I've recently picked up ☺

@JoeStalksBeck has the best idea! As I was buying some cards yesterday towards my 2018 intention to remember Litsy birthdays, I wished I could gift ebooks to people, especially as there are so many great #Kindledeals all the time!

Sharing in case you guys thought the same!

#kindlegifts

Jess7 This is cool, are you still doing it, and if so what is it? I‘m an avid kindle paperwhite user and purchase kindle ebooks all the time 6y
dariazeoli @Jess7 Check @JoeStalksBeck ‘s feed - I think she put up an updated list last week ☺️ 6y
Jess7 Ok, will do. Thanks @dariazeoli 6y
JoeStalksBeck @Jess7 just give me your amazon email and I‘ll add you ❤️ 6y

I finally received my new Kindle Oasis! I am loving this bad boy! The 7inch screen is beautiful, and it's so lightweight and comfortable to hold in your hand! Haven't tried the waterproof thing yet but I'm a bath reader so it will happen soon. I also still have yet to try the Audiobook on it but will update as soon as I do! Can't wait till my cover comes in now! Best e-reader I've owned hands down! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

aschermetz Is it backlit like a Fire or more like a Paperwhite? 6y
BookMaven407 Cool! I want one but question if I really need another device. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 6y
ReadingVampire @aschermetz like the paper white but better. If you look at the edges of the screen on the PW, you can almost see the lights. This one is so flush no lights poor from the sides making it, even more, book looking. At least to my eyes anyway. But definitely not a tablet. (edited) 6y

BethM Can you listen to library audio books on it or just Amazon ones? 6y
ReadingVampire @BethM I'm not sure actually... Not a big library goer because I'm on the libraries most wanted list for not returning a book when I was 13 and they want $80 for the book... So I actually don't know how to check out books or ebooks or audiobooks from the Library... Sad isn't it. 6y
ReadingVampire @BookMaven407 I couldn't help myself! It's waterproof, and I live in FT Lauderdale, so beach proof is needed for me!!! And bath proof hehe. 🛀🏻 🏖 🏝 🌊 6y
BethM Hahah I was on that list for that reason! Our library does a food drive where you can wipe out old fines. 6y
ReadingVampire @BethM I wish! That would be great if they did that.... sigh 😔 6y
Ashley_Nicoletto Gah! My mom is holding mine hostage until Christmas, but she let me open it to admire its beauty. She then promptly wrapped it back up in the box. 😂😂 I am so excited! Enjoy!! 6y

I decided to splurge and got a brand new apple red kindle this week. I'm absolutely in love with my kindle case. I thought it was very fitting since I love to write. This is my 5th (!) kindle and I can't believe how affordable they are now. A brand new kindle fire 7 is only $49.99 now, and if you have prime they give you the option to pay $10 over 5 months at no additional charge. Can't beat that! #booknerd #kindle #splurge 📚🤓📚🤓📚

Zelma Wow, thanks for the info. My mom broke her kindle screen and was holding off on replacing the. I have Prime so I could get her a new one on discount. 👍 6y
JenlovesJT47 @Zelma no problem! I haven't had access to my kindle in six months, and it felt like something was missing in my life lol. Hope she enjoys it! 6y
OrangeMooseReads I just bought my son a Kindle Fire 8 which is usually $80 but prime members got $25 off so it was only $54.99 just a few dollars more than the 7 6y

jpmcwisemorgan OMG I‘m getting a 16GB in blue and I have Prime so I can make payments. 6y
JenlovesJT47 @OrangeMooseReads @jpmcwisemorgan awesome! Can't go wrong with Amazon prime! 6y
OrangeMooseReads @JenlovesJT47 I love prime. It is well worth the money. 6y
jpmcwisemorgan I already have two Kindles but hey, why not get a third one? 6y
JenlovesJT47 @jpmcwisemorgan lol I like the way you think! 😂 I technically already had 4 but figured it was time for a new one 😳 I have about 6,000 books on my kindle and ran out of room! 6y

Another Pinterest find ??

At the moment I think I prefer "real" books. The convenience (and environmental impact) is obviously a consideration and for travel a Kindle is brill. Each have their place I guess...

Jess_Read_This Same here! I get too irritated with having to charge my Kindle.. it slows my reading down! 7y

I have had my Kindle for almost two weeks & thought I'd share my thoughts so far. It is hard to beat the e-book deals (like "Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell" for 3$) & the standard font & back-lit screen makes reading easier & quicker. I'm paranoid about breaking mine or it being forgotten somewhere or stolen, so portability isn't a bonus for me. Despite the useful percentage at the bottom, I miss the physical sense of the book & my journey?

vivastory Through the book. Speaking of reproductions of art work, Walter Benjamin spoke of the aura of the original. I can't think of a better term to describe paper vs. E-books. There is a relationship that is missing with e-books. Ultimately it is what is said, the tale that is being told & how it is told that matters most. Not if it's a physical copy or not. I imagine most of my future reading will be fairly evenly split between physical copy & kindle. 7y
EloisaJames I'm so happy to snatch up one of my favorite books for $2.99--thank you!! I read in both formats. E has reduced my waiting/airport anxiety a lot. 7y
bedandabook For several years I was a Kindle convert and, like you, I enjoyed snapping up the bargains but several months ago I found myself inexplicably drawn back to the beauty of real books. I have to say, Litsy played a part in that! Now my reading time is split, but nothing beats the sensation and sight of a hardback. ❤📚 7y

[DELETED] 3323341091 i agree with you about "...the tale that is being told and how..." yet the kinetic process of reading a physical book is far more gratifying than touching a screen to advance a page. that said, the convenience factor of an e-reader for traveling is wonderful - i travel frequently and it is grand having access to portable library. 7y
vivastory @fern it is also really nice because I often won't decide what to read next until I have already finished my current book. It's been great jumping on the library site or Amazon middle of the night to grab my next read. 7y
vivastory @fern also, you're right. The feel of paper & decked edges & French flaps simply can't be replaced 7y

Early Christmas gift from my parents! We did our family gift exchange tonight since this was when I could make it home for the holidays. I tried not too ask for many books since my goal for next year is to #ReadYourOwnDamnBooks 😳
