My #BOTM blue box came while I was down in PA at the hospital. I drove up to get some more clothes and check on my #litsykitties before going back down to the hospital. Thank you to everyone who has sent their thoughts and prayers. The #manpanion is still in the ICU but is more stable.

On a lighter note, you may notice that the duster is in the picture of my very dusty #bookshelf. It must be on vacation.😅#nojudging

Well. Good news and bad news.
I‘ve recovered from Covid, but the #manpanion is in the ICU . Covid turned into pneumonia and his oxygen levels were dangerously low.
Thankfully I can stay in the room with him. I‘m trying to keep myself distracted with this cozy mystery & some knitting.
I‘m writing this because I know many of you have gone through the same thing, can understand, & maybe be able to offer advice.
PS I‘ll be a late mailing #LMPBC out.

Avanders Oh no I‘m so sorry to hear that!!! 😢 Is he eligible for the paxlovid pill? When my husband got covid a few weeks ago, he also had a spiked fever and a problematically low o2 level and had to go to the hospital, but he was eligible for the pill and recovered in just days. Hoping you get some really good news soon 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 3w
Kayla.Adriena I'm sorry this is happening, my advice is even though the doctors and nurses seem busy rushing around if there is something you don't understand or doesn't seem right don't hesitate to ask them! They're looking at monitors and numbers and sadly sometimes forget your husband is a human being lying in that bed 😔 3w
Kayla.Adriena And also MAKE sure they are in some way moving him around in that bed and also doing passive range of motion and preventing foot drop! And as soon as he is able to get up to the chair and start moving around. I know it seems counter intuitive because we think sick = bedrest but rehab/recovery can be arduous especially after a respiratory illness like this 3w
Kayla.Adriena And finally my last bit of advice is to give yourself a break even if it's just 20 or 30 minutes outside the room such as walking to the gift shop or cafeteria or outside, I always did this after the doctors made their rounds so I didn't miss them. You're his biggest advocate right now , try to take care ! 💕 3w
TheRiehlDeal I‘m sorry he‘s going through this. Sending thoughts and prayers your way. 💕💕 3w
MaleficentBookDragon @Kayla.Adriena thank you for all the advice. I appreciate it. I had a massive meltdown Saturday after the ER then the move to the ICU. I‘m a bit calmer now. I should be a pro at this. I spent a lot of time in the hospital with my dad when his cancer spread, then when my mom had her cancer surgery. My sister and her husband also had cancer. And then there was my cancer surgery. Sadly I‘ve spent too much time in a hospital over the last 12 years. 3w

So, I‘ve been off the grid. The #manpanion and I have Covid. 😷I‘ve spent the last 5 days shivering 🥶 and whimpering under the covers. I‘m hoping my headache goes away soon so I can start reading this #arc
I‘m really looking forward to this one. It almost makes up for having to cancel a fun planned weekend down in Virginia with my sister (we had high ☕️, 🪓 throwing, and Maverick 🍿 on the agenda 😞).

Happy Valentines Day my lovely Littens.
The #manpanion did good. He made me tacos for dinner and some chocolate covered strawberries for dessert. I‘m a woman of simple tastes. These are two of my favorite things since childhood.
I hope you all got a special treat today as well.

Johanna414 Apparently we are twins, because that‘s exactly what I am getting for Valentine‘s Day tomorrow- my husband had to work tonight. Chocolate covered strawberries are my favorite! 4mo

All around the US & over a year, this book has traveled to friends - & I welcome it home at the end of round 4 of #CoffeeBeanBookClub #cbbc

Thank you Nicole for all the extra goodies!!! ♥️♥️ Buggy & I have already dipped into the cookies & chocolate 😁, the coffee smells divine & will be perfect with the syrup!! 🤤🤤 And that cocoa ornament is so cute! Can‘t wait to drink it ☕️☺️

Thank you again for the whole year too & for hosting!!
♥️☕️♥️📖♥️

MaleficentBookDragon @Mommamanzi where do get Community Coffee? The #manpanion is obsessed with it since his sister brought some from Tennessee , but I haven‘t seen it in NY. 5mo

MaleficentBookDragon @Mommamanzi Ahhh. You are so sweet! Thank you! 6mo
MaleficentBookDragon The chocolate almonds are from a local candy company from where I grew up and the cherries are my #manpanion's favorites so I hope you like them. BTW, the book looks really fun, I may have to get it for myself for next year. 6mo
Ahw06 @MaleficentBookDragon they look amazing!! Those chocolate cherries are my fav too! I‘ll let you know how it is ☺️ I love Christina Lauren books! 6mo

I‘ve not posted for a bit altho I‘ve been on here commenting/browsing; I‘ve been struggling lately with SAD and MS symptoms. Fatigue and pain are even harder for me when it gets cold, and the doldrums hit HARD. I actually do know all the things I need to do: get outside and get active (thank goodness I got a dog again), connecting, etc.
Tell me what makes you happy when it‘s grey and cold outside! #creepychristmas #JolabokaflodSwap #winter

4thhouseontheleft Aromatherapy with essential oils and a diffuser, a regular sleep routine. Do you take Vitamin D? 7mo
Gissy So happy that you are back and you are managing things!😘🥰❤️❤️❤️
When I‘m sad or overwhelmed, I need a space from people/noises to process what is happening, to think how can I manage it. I need silence, be with myself. Then I need to walk outside, again, alone. After that space with myself, maybe I consult/talk with a friend. The beach, trees, nature, can calm me tremendously. If the situation is so difficult, I need to do exercises like run.
7mo
Gissy I also, use candles in the house, some Celtic/new age soft music, a cup of tea and read when I calmed a little bit. But all these activities, I need to do it by myself at the beginning, trying to control those obsessive thoughts and all these have worked for me🤗
@Chrissyreadit @mabell @Avanders what do you do?
(edited) 7mo
FantasyChick Oh I know all too well about this one. When I'm feeling down and dreary I need to be by myself to work through it. A nice bath as hot as my body will allow, loaded with some calming Epsom salts and nice relaxing bubbles and a bath bomb. Slap on a rejuvenating face mask and some dim lighting. Rather than read on these days I'll throw on some cheesy show I've seen a million times and just let the world slip away. 7mo
FantasyChick You wouldn't believe how much something so simple can breathe new life into you! Thanks for including me @bookishtrish 😘 How do you guys deal @debbiegrillo @MoonWitch94 @ShelleyBooksie ? 7mo
MoonWitch94 @FantasyChick Thanks for thinking of me ☺️ I suggested a cozy beverage & blanket with good music. Also, when the sun does come out, I try to stand in the sunshine for a few minutes so my body gets some natural Vitamin D. So important for combating SAD. 7mo
FantasyChick @MoonWitch94 That'll teach me to read the comments before tagging 🤣🤣 Great suggestion! 7mo
DebbieGrillo Honestly, I've been treating myself to some THC gummies. Not lately because I've got some health stuff going on. Didn't try the stuff until I was well into my 40s. No regrets. Add some good music and snacks and life is grand! 7mo
kamoorephoto @4thhouseontheleft You know, I really should try some high dose Vitamin D, even though I do get outside for dog walks multiple times a day, it‘s not exactly sunny out right now (#Seattle) 🌧 @Gissy Candles DO make me happy; maybe I need to stop trying to ‘save‘ them and just burn them! @DebbieGrillo I‘ve been super cautious about THC because of anxiety issues but I may try some CBD?? 7mo
kamoorephoto **Also, stuff with my son (he just turned 14 😩) has been continuously stressful (trying to police his screen use, get schoolwork done, get therapy, deal with hormones, etc) and I‘m doing everything I can for that, and I‘m burnt out after two years of this pandemic BS, just me and him at home. Now he doesn‘t even want to go to his dad‘s because of his older 1/2 brother. I also tend to feel guilty when I take a break. 7mo
wanderinglynn It is hard when it‘s cold and grey outside. I exercise—yoga especially helps center me. I try to eat better, lots of fruits & veg. A good friend of mine does light therapy & says that helps. And just talking to someone and making sure I‘m not isolating myself. 7mo
kamoorephoto @FantasyChick Favorite cheesy shows right now???! 7mo
marleed When I‘m overwhelmed or struck inability to address things in my life, I create a personal Kanban chart. I tend to create them for weekends or for work days. Every little thing gets it‘s own sticky - prepping dinner, grocery store, clean off nightstand, read for an hour (I might have 5 stickies of this one!), walk 5 miles (3 stickies), meditate, take a bubble bath, text my sister, pay bills, mail birthday card, watch a movie with my son... ↓ 7mo
marleed I have a chart with 3 columns:
1. To do (where all the stickies start).
2. In Progress (where only 3-5 stickies can reside)
3. Finished (where I want every sticky to land at the end of my timeframe).
It‘s a game, but it really helps me to visually move those stickies. I created them professionally for years before I started to use them in my personal life.
7mo
4thhouseontheleft @kamoorephoto I have a just turned 14yo daughter and screen time, extracurriculars, hormones, therapy are all burning me out too. We just went to her teacher‘s funeral today too, I am going to need my own therapy session after this week carrying all of the emotional luggage. Hang in there 💞 7mo
kamoorephoto @marleed In my head, and when I‘m emotionally 100%, I can do this kind of planning. Sounds so good. The best I can do right now is get out my to-do list in one fell swoop onto paper so I can check things off. I used to do some pretty good journaling before I left R‘s dad and be on my own, but I don‘t have the energy for that (or the pretty). @4thhouseontheleft ahh so you understand. I can‘t even get R to do extracurriculars since pandemic 😐 7mo
marleed @kamoorephoto I sure hop you receive some tips that work for you now. In the meantime, I hope you feel some positive energy for a good day sent your way from me in Kansas City! 7mo
marleed @4thhouseontheleft Oh I‘m so sorry about the death of your daughter‘s teacher. That has to be hard. Sometimes days are just a lot. 7mo
FantasyChick I'm a big fan of the reality TV. It's always so bad and corny that I can just leave it on and binge lol. Love is Blind, The Circle, Selling Sunset, Too Hot to Handle, Sister Wives and my all time favourite feel good....90 Day Fiance! Bad, cheesy, cringey TV makes my day 7mo
ShelleyBooksie On nights when I'm low I enjoy soft jammies and warm covers while listening to a podcast or audiobook - one that does not require a lot of attention that I can drift off too. I also love a warm shower with some nice lotion after. ♡♡ I also love TV when I need to turn out. Cooking shows- great Canadian baker, Nailed it are faves. 7mo
Andrea4 I take higher doses of vit D. I have done sun tanning in a bed before in worse winters. Lots of warmth and coziness around me. Watching shows that I know can let me cry "with a reason" if I feel I need that. Making things. Anything really. Just creation. Playing with my plants and dirt (tricking myself to think I'm outside lol). If there are sunny days you best best I'm sticking myself in the middle of a sunbeam!! 7mo
Andrea4 Exercise of course is great but some kind that makes me feel happy, usually intense cardio for me and sometimes that is me dancing around like a maniac (this looks mostly like jumping and flailing of arms) to really loud music! I asked for a rebounding trampoline for xmas and can't wait to literally bounce around!!! Like tee I double G errrrr 🐅 7mo
Chrissyreadit I use a lot of what has been suggested, but most of all love a hot bath with Epsom Salts, I light candles, and in comfy pajamas under a cozy blanket put on Psych or a Jane Austen movie, and read a cozy mystery simultaneously- cause I know them by heart, and sometimes have popcorn. Also, I have an almost 18 year old and 19 year old and can honestly say the teen years are the most challenging but they grow out of it eventually ❤️- 7mo
Chrissyreadit And def get your vit D checked. You may need prescription strength. I hear a lot of good things about the light therapy. Finally- I use my litsy friends for funny memes- I love seeing all the stuff posted in the Winter Games (even though I don‘t play) 7mo
kamoorephoto @Andrea4 Do you get a vitamin D shot? 7mo
Andrea4 @kamoorephoto no, I just use drops. Generally in summer 2000/day (so for most brands this is two drops) and in winter I'll go to 3000/day. Last time I was tested my naturopath was pleasantly surprised by my Vit D number, saying it was one of the best she's seen and to keep going with that. I get the drops because most are already emulsified so you don't have to worry about taking with a fat. 7mo
MaleficentBookDragon I get it. I hope all this comments cheer you up a bit. Books and chocolate are nice and cozy.
I'm a strange one, I love it when it is cold and gray out (or rainy) because then I just snuggle under a blanket on my couch with a hot drink and furry cuddle bunny (cats or #manpanion? it depends). 😂
And I don't have to feel guilty about not wanting to go outside.
7mo
kamoorephoto @MaleficentBookDragon Oh believe me, I live in Seattle so I‘m good with cold and espec. gray; it makes me feel much better than overly hot. Rain is also just fine (altho the dog complains sometimes); temperature extremes are really hard for me tho, because I have MS. Snuggle companions are a white dog and a white cat who tend to leave fur everywhere. Been struggling with so much pain and fatigue lately so that sucks. Talking on here helps ☺️ 7mo
BiblioLitten This post helped. Winters are not kind to my skin or my mood and I‘m always looking for things to make it better. 6mo
kamoorephoto @BiblioLitten Oh god yes, my skin is crap in the winter even though I‘m always moisturizing and drinking water. These new added stomach issues now make eating unpleasant 😩 Today I found out my aunt back in England suddenly has died and neither my passport or green card are up to date for travel. Feeling seriously PISSY TONIGHT!!!! Movie + book are very necessary. I‘m overwhelmed. 6mo
BiblioLitten I‘m so sorry to hear about your aunt. I hope you find peace. 💐 Hugs 💕 6mo

Here are my top 5 choices up for your review in #round13 #LMPBC #GroupW
Let me know what you think. I‘m thrilled to read any of these (maybe all of them this winter).
I threw The Shining in because I‘ve never read it. It scared me as a kid and I only made it through the first few chapters.

See All 18 Comments
Avanders Oooh all look great — I also haven‘t yet read The Shining (though of course I‘ve seen it a bunch of times). My top pick would probably be Winter at Death‘s Hotel.. but again, all look great!! 8mo
carlthecattt 5 Total Strangers or Unwanted Guest would be my 2 choices, but they all sound good! 8mo
mklong They all sound great to me too. I have also never read The Shining and have always wanted to 8mo
MaleficentBookDragon I eliminated 5 Total Strangers and Dark Matter. Which of the three left would you vote for? @mklong @avanders @carlthecattt I want to read all three so if there is a tie I can break it. 8mo

Avanders I‘d be super happy with any of those 3, but I still vote for Winter at Death‘s Hotel ☺️ 8mo
mklong LOL, I still vote The Shining! Totally unhelpful I know 😂 8mo
MaleficentBookDragon That's one vote each and I want to read all three! 😂
Okay, if there are no strong objections, I will pick one out of a hat (or have the #manpanion choose one). @carlthecattt @avanders @mklong
