Blink. Blink. Blink. Blink...
Ready to be destroyed again. 🥹
Omggggg! Pirates vs Vikings mixed with dark little mermaid/jack sparrow vibes. I‘ve said it once - and I‘m saying it again- I‘m (definitely) in my Villain era. King Erik is a straight up horrendous monster and Livia cannot keep away. The enemies to lovers arch was so good, so perfectly done that even I couldn‘t help kick my legs and squeal at the banter and spice. 4🌶️ 5⭐️ now I need to read the second book asap. Completed trilogy, fyi!
5⭐️ yes I think this book is amazing and equally as amazing as everyone says it is. I love the hero arch that‘s been started for Odessa and THAT CLIFFHANGER! The Guardian and all his mystique really helped carry the love triangle. I‘ve read a LOT of fantasy/romantasy this year and this is by far my favorite, with many more reveals ahead I hope book2 lives up to its potential.
4.75⭐️ I definitely think I‘m in my Villain era because Atakan completely stole my heart. The witty banter, the drama, using the nickname Dread, the spice (🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️) … twist and turns and everything you‘d want in a great book. Perfectly wrapped up standalone - but I took off .25 cause I *need* a second book!
5⭐️ solid YA romantasy book. Closed door/fade to black only spice scene. I cried during this story- thinking about the lives and loves we‘ve lost based on decisions or fate.
4.5 ⭐️ I LOVE Sarah Pinborough books.
More horror-lite than some of her others, but so good. Husband and wife move to the country after the wife wakes from a 6month long coma. She thinks the house is haunted - husband thinks she‘s crazy. It‘s dual POV and the twists actually made me mad, but in a good way.
4.5⭐️
The way this book ended and wrapped up all the messy edges, makes this series one of my newer favorites. The HEA for the romance is amazing. The twists and turns, and backstabbing is packaged up nicely, and the villains rein supreme.
6⭐️ no notes, I am in love with Talan. He is officially my new favorite book boyfriend.
4.5⭐️ Spies, forbidden love, magical war are some of my favorite tropes.
Nia is an American on vacation in S. France near where the vail is established to divide the world of the Fae and the world of the humans. Wrong place, right time incidents occur and she‘s face to face with ex-lover Raphael on her way to the hidden world of Camelot. Nia discovers truths about herself, new friends, lost family, the chaos of spying, & the villains nightmares.
4⭐️
I started Duskbound immediately after finishing Riftborne (thanks KU) and happily jumped into the realm of the Kalfar. Fia‘s kidnapped by the wraiths and forced to discover the truths her government is corrupt and lying to the Guards. Fia discovers how strong she truly is and the ways to defeat her old friends, while keeping her new friends and kingdom safe.
I was unsure if I wanted to pick up a “booktok” recommendation from the 20-something crowd but I‘m happy I did. A solid 3.5 ⭐️ for introducing me to the world of Fia and her gang of Gaurds, General Ashford 🫣 and a unique/different magic system than my most recent reads. The ending of this book left me excited to start book two right away (which I did).
I don‘t understand why more people don‘t seem to like this series. Maybe I‘m blind to “how badly written” it is, but I do not agree. It‘s an easy, twilight esque book, but better plot and fantasy world building.
4⭐️. Spicy, villain, love triangle, mystery. *chefs kiss
Just started this month‘s reread with my book club, but this time I‘m tackling the tandem read. I REALLY liked reading EOS then TOD the first time, it will be interesting reading them together.
I forgot how badly I want to shove a rusty nail into Darrows eyeball. 😂
4.75⭐️
The last 100 or so pages you sit there and start theorizing which twists are going to twist (and how) and which plot points will be exposed (and finalized). SO much has been left unanswered and even with the few discoveries that will help create a smooth transition into book 3- I am antsy and annoyed.
There was a layer of darkness over this book that felt sinister and thick. I loved it!
… caused a nice little book hangover… wasn‘t too heavy but still made me sad that I won‘t see more of Rune and Gideon in the future.
Fast paced. Some unexpected twists and turns, excited to see the evolution of plot! 4.75⭐️
I love when my favorite little mountain town is mentioned in a book. 💕🏔️
“The blood splatters from where he had been stabbed repeatedly. And the larger pool of blood, in the gutter, where Michael Hyde had begun his desperate attempt to cut off her brother‘s face.”
Well, Mr. North, I dare say you caught my attention with the last lines of the prologue. 🩸💀🩸
4 ⭐️ Usually I read more graphic and gore thriller/mystery novels and this one was a smidge too cozy for me. Still loved it and will definitely read the second - how can you not be intrigued by a cursed stage magician who tries to solve the mystery of her assistant‘s death?! Delicious food with recipes included makes this a book you shouldn‘t read on an empty stomach.
4⭐️ read this one in 2 days- so proud of myself for ignoring ALL responsibilities while the toddler slept so I could devour this book. Supernatural thriller with a perfect amount of spooky. The Carters are on their honeymoon & find themselves on a deserted stretch of road where they find a hitchhiker and offer her a lift. All hell breaks loose and they become murder suspects who can‘t leave town, so they decide to solve the case on their own.
4⭐️ I feel like anything and everything I want to say would spoil this book. It‘s a similar concept to book 1 in that the rulers only have a set # of days to save LightLark, however this time Isla has her powers. The book hops between before Centennial and present day, but is remembering worth the pain? All previous characters make an appearance, and introduces some new ones. Decent sequel- can‘t wait for the 3rd!!
3.5 ⭐️ I love Miranda books so much- they‘re light thriller with twists and turns. Cassidy and a group of friends get together every year to commemorate the tragic accident they were all in their senior year of high school. The group of 11 is down to 9… 8?…7? What is happening and why are they dying one by one..?!
4.5⭐️ pleasantly surprised. Ive seen a few people include it on lists, few talks shows etc etc and thought I‘d give it a try. It‘s all a game until someone dies. Not to mention there are lies and liars are everywhere. And of course forbidden love; or lust or is it just part of the game?
4⭐️ I love flawed characters, I love light horror, I love twists and turns. But something about this one left me wanting more, and not in the usual “I thirst for more and need to read every book ever written”, but more of the “something is missing” or “why wasn‘t this added!?”. Still would recommend- beauty and the beast mixed with Alice in Wonderland & Narnia.
A ✨soundtrack✨ for books needs to become more popular imo. Can‘t wait to dig in and tune out!
“Being a serial killer who kills serial killers is a great hobby…”
5⭐️ The world building is amazing. Two separate but equally enjoyable points of view. It ends in such a way that you can‘t help but want more; you start analyzing and theorizing different conspiracies. Cannot wait for book 2!
edited to add: ragpicker king comes out in 2025!? ffff.
Anyone read this (tagged book) yet? Opinions? Theories? I saw the movie trailer and can‘t decide if it‘s genius to put out both within the same couple of weeks or completely deranged.
“All that is good comes from the gods. All that is evil comes from men.”
Roughly 1/3 of the way through- the world building is amazing and each chapter is thick… 7 chapters = pg 170… thank gawd there‘s no one waiting on me to finish this book, I might have to renew it again if I‘m not finished by the end of the month 😅
Starting this bad boy today. I haven‘t read any previous Clare books but I keep seeing it mentioned on booktok and bookstagram with some of my favorites so here we are!
5⭐️ I know I‘m late to the party, but holy moly I‘m glad I caught up…currently dealing with a book hangover, I can‘t believe it. Thankfully #ironflame is under the Christmas tree and I‘ll be able to start tomorrow. Violet never lives up to her mother‘s expectations (same girl) and is forced to join the prestigious Riders quadrant. I love her vulnerability and humanity as she deviously navigates her way through friendships, enemies, & murder plots.
Put toddler to bed ✔️
Wrap presents ✔️
Clean kitchen ✔️
Hot bath while listening to the rain and enjoying a new book ✔️✔️✔️
Chapter 8: I‘m deeply enmeshed in this world of deadly collegiate training, vicious dragons and a 400+ year war. Violet is going to be a badass even though she underestimates herself- I can feel it!
5⭐️ Binged this audiobook over the past few days and was sucked into the city of Oath, war between Dacre and Enva, and most importantly Iris and Roman. 1/2 🌶️ spicy- very PG imo- but gave the perfect amount of details to create the illusions in my mind. Ross‘ writing had me hooked and narrators Norfolk and Wingfield breathe life into the characters making them jump off the “page” and swim through my ears and brain. Can‘t wait for #2‘s release!!
Strike, Robin, and gang have to delve into the *supernatural* mega cult that has its chokehold on the overly wealthy and semi-famous… while they sift through rumors about magic, smoke and mirrors, conspiracy theories and murder, mayhem ensues. This is my favorite book in the series so far, even though I dislike the Robin/Ryan storyline 😂🫣 and love the new softer side of Strike presented throughout this installment.
“I think we all armor. I think those who don‘t are fools risking the pain of being wounded by the sharp edges of the world over and over.”
Listening to this on audiobook, about half way through and officially stuck. I want to finish it so bad but can‘t see where the current situation is headed in terms of plot, or if it‘s merely filler, and it‘s making it hard to pick up or listen to. Anyone else feel this way with audiobooks? Or this book in particular??
Perfect start for the next series! Slow in the beginning - but not so slow you want to give up- and then BOOM it‘s full speed ahead with griping sea adventures, magical creatures and possibly someone we‘ve met before?! 5⭐️ I couldn‘t put it down, and am eagerly awaiting the next installment.
Starting this one finally! I loved her first trilogy and cannot wait to enter the world of pirates and girl power.
I did it! Finally finished! Okay- so that was intense. Not so much the story line - pretty basic murder mystery but thrown into the mix is the virtual world of online gaming and catfishing, incels and terrorists. Some of the chapters are tumblr/twitter feeds and chat rooms which (based on formatting) took me a few rereads to get through. Grab a pen and pad to take notes on all the characters, cause there are a lot. 4.5⭐️
I‘ve spent the past year reading baby books, baby name books, baby “how to‘s” and some board books to said baby-
Now I‘m finally reading a book for me. I‘m sure I might have read one or two over the past year but I can‘t remember. What I do know is I‘ve been waiting for Robin and Strike to solve another case and escape into the world of my favorite modern British PIs. 1000 pages - I‘ll be done sometime next year 🫠
Some light reading. Any name nerds out there?!
Typical romance storyline with an October witchy theme/twist. Definitely a quick easy read (took me 5 hrs) but cute and something light in a normally horror filled month. Great pallet cleanser, if a sequel is written I‘d read it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I‘ve tried to pick this book up for years, YEARS! But for some reason I‘d read a page and walk away. Downloaded the audiobook and only hit pause to eat food. Great story, sad and cold at parts but kept me engaged and wanting more.
Yep. Perfect audible for an October road trip.
Picked this up the other day and couldn‘t put it down. Even though it‘s 450 pages it was a quick read and wasn‘t super scary horror, but unsettling none the less. The story is broken up with two timelines hundreds of years apart, but the way they are intertwined... superb!
And so the house war starts, Vin thought. Didn‘t think I‘d be the one to officially begin it.
“In fact , I‘d say calling me a troublemaker is probably the only accurate thing Tepper has said since I got here.”
I know this feeling. 2 chapters in and I‘m hooked. It‘s a love/hate relationship when I can read at work. But right now- I‘m loving it!!
86 chapters of mystery and mutiny. Sammy Pipps and Arent Hayes are on their way back to Amsterdam, one in cuffs and the other desperately trying to free his friend. As they board the ship, a leper appears on the docks and warns the passengers that a devil has set a curse upon the Saardam. As the devil slowly takes the ship- your mind starts to twist and guess who he might be. Cleverly written, an amazingly great story. 5🌟
